www.homedepot.com/p/Klein-Too... The Klein Plier Wrench D53010 is a 10" water pump style plier with a reversible lower jaw allowing for two parallel smooth jaws, or one smooth and one angled tooth-filled lower jaw. It is more the same than different compared to the Knipex Plier Wrench and Cobra. The Klein is heavier than the comparable sized Plier Wrench by Knipex, and much heavier than the Cobra.
What do you think?

4:15.. That reversible pipe jaw is literally for grabbing pipe and spinning it or holding pipe... you can use it on the nut or bolt end but it's mostly for grabbing pipe.. 8:20.. flip the pliers over...and try that...🤔 I have a different version Of the pipe jaw pliers (adjustable wrench style) like these it actually does bite pretty well like a pipe wrench when you flip it around...

Good points. I assume that orientation, like a pipe wrench, would make a performance difference. Thanks for watching.

I was going to comment about this being a useless combi-tool for cycling as in Cobra mode (un)torquing rounded nuts might well damage the surface of the top jaw slightly, making the pliers wrench mode more marring on the new fixing. However, I completely take your point that this is a plumbing tool designed mainly for pipes (in Cobra mode) and cosmetic damage to fasteners is not generally an issue in plumbing (unless it's final fix on a bathroom or something I guess?)

It's designed for an electrician running ridged conduit since Klein is first a company for that trade, some sparky tools can come in useful in the plumbing trade as well.

I’m a Knipex diehard but I have to say, with all of the cobra and pliers wrench clones popping up, this at least feels like some exciting innovation. And definitely feels like Klein designed it in their style: US steel, multi-function, more robust. I applaud this! Definitely better than the Icon clone and I can see this working for certain buyers.

I was a career electrician and was exceedingly loyal to Klein. I still like their screwdrivers and many of their traditional pliers. I like their thin jaw and wide opening jaws on their adjustable wrenches. I always passed on their grooved lock Channel Lock pliers in favor of Channel Lock brand... Until I began using Knipex. Knipex is king of this market. Knock offs are still substandard. I will pass on this new Klein as it is too clunky for me and doesn't do either job as well as Knipex. I think they tried to kit a sweet spot for electricians that will settle for one tool. Electricians often don't require pipe wrench torque for pipe and don't require wrench torque for hex fasteners. I prefer tools that do a single job exceedingly well over multi function tools that perform substandard.

Interesting tool, the reversible jaw is very similar to my Irega adjustable wrench, the serrated side is for pipes, not for hex fasteners, only for round objects. But I don't like the handles touching together. Knipex solved this year's ago with a proper pinch guard.. In my experience the multifunctional tools come with compromises. I think the cobra is better, is my most used tool, but when I have to be careful with finished surfaces I use the plier wrench. But I like the adjusting lever on the Klein very similar to my gedore pliers. But I agree with you, on multiple jaw designs, maybe they come up with something more useful. 👍👍👍

I’m looking forward to see what improvements they will make on the reversible jaw. The push button being closer to the handle is much better then Knipex’s push button near the head. But frankly the price is quite staggering. Once a few more improvements are made along with those plastic jaw covers thrown into the mix I could see myself just having two of them to lighten the bag instead of having 2 cobras, 1 crescent wrench, and one pliers wrench.

Doc, I 'think' the Klien being a reversible jaw model, the reason for the serrated side to not be parallel is because its for gripping round surfaces like pipes not hex fasteners. The Bahco reversible jaw adjustable wrenches are the same.

First off; great video! 👍. I am a Knipex fan, their tools are AMAZING. But, these Klein are the real deal. If used for their intended purpose, no knipex comes close. Think about it, they are designed for electrical work. I used them on ridgit conduits and wow they perform. There is no perfect tool if the user doesn't know how to use it. No insult intended; but you can't use pliers to hold a harded bolt.

saving the weight here could be the absolute key for some people. I like the flush ness the knipex brings, makes it a little more versatile for some of the playing around I do, but I'm not sure it's as practical as strength. I don't know on this one. the knipex plier wrench are expensive in some shops, not $50 I assure you. yes you can get them sometimes for that but that's unusual I would say. Closer to $60 every time I've looked on avg.

I pronounce Knipex like Knievel. At full closure the Kleins look like they will fit a pocket much better than the Knipex. Good point about the potential for drop-in jaws with different designs.

It would be interesting to have the pliers wrench design with the cobra jaws for even more leverage. But with this tool, the pipe wrench side just doesn't work well enough due to the flat top jaw. For something like really tight pipes, it seems that the pliers would crush it before grabbing properly.

have you used it though or are you just looking at it and making the assumption? Because the behavior of pipe wrenches and leverage and their design, often it's one side that does the vast majority of work. I have the cobras in the Doyle flavor (cause, ya know, they're the EXACT same thing) and the pliers wrench in the Icon flavor. I like the waterpump pliers, but the pliers wrench I think is the most over hyped, over rated thing ever. Almost every instance I've tried them in, I'd rather just have an actual wrench every time. The only thing I've found a use for them is that they open big enough to tighten the jam nuts on my long arms. The Kleins just seem like an even more gimmicky, useless version of both of those.
