Excellent explanations of the testers abilities along with visual examples for faulty and proper wiring configurations. This tester being a stand-alone and not relying on the outlet power for functionality is a great safety feature and eliminates the dreaded 'I'm not sure scenario'. Video's like this eliminate doubt. You've finalized my decision for an outlet tester.....Thank You Jim.

@@JimMcLaren1950......wonder if there is a multi-meter that has the GFCI and arc fault detection test function?

Because of your video and this little tool, I learned that all of my (old) outlets are open-ground and need to be replaced with GFCI outlets until I can get the house rewired. Subscribed. Thank you.🤝

Great video and easy to understand with the different wiring scenarios he went through. Two thumbs way up.

Good video. At 9:42 in the video, you really should have used a GFCI receptacle instead of a regular receptacle as the GFCI will protect you from a ground fault until you can fix the ground situation in the attic.

Thanks for posting. Good idea using GFCI until I get the ground wire in the attic.

If you only had one of those utility knives to cut the package open... : ) Good review as usual Mr. McLaren..

Thank you. I actually bought 2 Klein testers. I did open one with the Fiscars Pro utility knife but didn't cut inside the plastic enough had to recut so the scissors made a better video lol'

I like my tester. It works great 👍 it will show the voltage ⚡️ and if black and hot is reversed. The green light tells if it's correct

Quite a handy tool. Will it show a bad contact with wire when, for example, there is some of the insulation got under the contact screw when the wire was stripped too short?
@JimMcLaren19508 ай бұрын
No it wont show that. It shows if its properly wired or not.

Can you use this to trip breakers on regular outlets? Or will it only trip GFCI's?
@JimMcLaren1950 Жыл бұрын
Very good question. I just tested it out on regular circuut. Didnt trip breaker. Only works on GFCI outlets.

@@noggfresh Your welcome. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
@billhandymanbill2775 Жыл бұрын
No, it will not trip a regular circuit breaker, there is a tiny resistor in it to simulate a ground fault situation and will only trip on GFCI on that circuit. If you had a GFCI breaker in the electrical panel, then it would trip the GFCI

@@billhandymanbill2775 ohhhh that's good to know. Ty for that insight! I might just invest in Klein's AFCI/GFCI Outlet Tester (#RT310) instead.
