My dad has tons of Klein pliers, screwdrivers, clippers, knives, tool. Bags, plumb bobs, I think levels, shears, channel locks, slip joint pliers, gloves, reamers, but drivers, pipe benders, hex keys, tool bags, anything you can think of and it's all anywhere from 15-25 years old, I have never once seen a non functioning Klein tool in his tool box, with the exception of some pliers that are rusted out, but that's just a matter of WD-40 and a wire wheel, Ile lay a bunch out on the floor and post it on the forum

I used my Gerber EOD multi tool to cut what someone told me was not a live wire. Well, that blue arc told me otherwise! It had damaged the carbide cutters, fortunately, those are replaceable. Always ensure yourself, that a conductor is "dead" prior to cutting!

I have a pair of Klein j2000-59 diagonal cutting pliers. I accidentally cut live 10 AWG copper, and all the pliers got was a small hole in the cutters. They still cut clean through most things.

My favorite Klein tool would have to be their Combination punch down tool/screwdriver. That thing has came in handy so many times for various network wiring I have done. My regular Klein screwdrivers get used a ton also and I do love the big chunky rubber grip they put on them. Klein makes good quality tools. Also can't forget my VDV Scout that thing is awesome to use I just used to to identify a network drop a few days ago and also test the cable. I don't think TIA has reviewed the VDV commander yet.

Klein tools are great. All my electrian friend loves their tools. I love those drill bits set in metal case. I have my old crafts set only the 2 stacks tho, I bought from a yard sale a few years back. Replaced some bits here and there. Those metal case are the best! Might starting to get in to buying Klein hand tools. But still debating should I go for Milwaukee or Klein. Decision, decision......

Tried out a pair of Milwaukee pliers, and have to say they are not bad, at least that is what I thought when I was a Home Depot associate. Now I am a professional electrician, and wow, my eyes have been opened. Milwaukee pliers are so keen on "innovating" that they throw in features like a "nail pulling head" which basically means the cutting blades don't go all the way to the tip, which makes it impossible to cut zip ties wrapped around conduit, among other things. Also, seeing as how Milwaukee hand tools are just as expensive as Klein, how come they are made in Taiwan? Seriously? Yeah it is awesome that Milwaukee has a bunch of 30 year old engineering majors with no field experience designing their products, but I think I will stick with Klein for now.

Until I started watching you guys, I never gave Klein a second thought. For the most part, most of my hand tools are Craftsman. But I can honestly say that on my next tool excursion, I will be checking out the Klein line-up and more than likely I will purchase a couple items to see if they are the quality that you and others are promoting. You guys did Klein proud. Good job guys.

Agreed that Klein does make very good quality products. I have mostly Klein tools for electrical work. But... your video does demonstrate the one complaint I have with Klein pliers. They tend to be quite stiff when new. The difficulty opening and closing the new 1000V linesman pliers in the video is very noticeable (2:10 - 2:20 in the video) - two handed operation and they remain open when they should have fallen closed. This stiffness generally disappears with use but I have a one pair of Klein pliers that refuses to loosen up enough for me to use them comfortably.

try oil
@deanrhodenizer938
@deanrhodenizer938 8 жыл бұрын
Thanks, but I am already way past this suggestion. I have been oiling and then working this particular pair (J1005 Crimpers) of Klein pliers for weeks and they just remain stiff. Background - I had to replace a several pairs of pliers lately (because of a theft) so I have recent experience with breaking them in. All my other Klein pliers eventually freed up - I like them at the stage here they will fall open from their own weight. In frustration over this particular pair I made a jig using my vise to hold one handle and crude crank fabricated from coat hanger wire attached to the other handle with zip ties. The crank is then attached to my drill and I have run this for an extended period of time with minimal improvement. These crimpers are loose enough now that I can open and close them with one hand but still a long way from dropping open from their own weight. I researched the Klein stiffness question on the web - there is lots out there so this is a well known problem for Klein IMO. I stopped short of trying all the techniques suggested on the web - like repeatedly dropping the pliers on a concrete floor, whacking the pivot point with a hammer or using valve grinding compound to lubricate the pivot point - these all seem like extreme/partially destructive measures. Bottom line - Yes, we all prefer pliers with a tight, play free, pivot point and Klein delivers on that but their pliers are not always ready to use right out of the package. I think this is an area of improvement for Klein and hence the reason for my original comment. I have tried a higher priced German brand and they seem to have similar quality but no stiffness complaint.

For future reference. I get some very find sand and rub it on the joints then add a bit of oil and work them back and forth for a while. That usually does the trick. just make sure to flood all the sand out of the joints with more oil.
@deanrhodenizer938
@deanrhodenizer938 8 жыл бұрын
Thanks Kyle. I did come across the sand/oil impregnation idea on the web in my earlier research. This is fairly similar to the use of valve grinding compound (super hard grid mixed with oil/grease) which I mentioned in an earlier comment and fits in the semi-destructive category of remedies. I am going to stay with my original suggestion. Klein pliers should be ready to use right out of the package. It should not be necessary to resort to unusual/time consuming procedures to make Klein pliers comfortable/usable - especially when I pay a bit of a premium for Klein Quality.

Klein are the proof that American made tools are built to last, you get stuff made cheaper in China etc but it shows...I have a 7/16-1/2" Snap-on combination ring spanner that I bought when I was 17, serving my mechanics apprenticeship in the UK. It was my first ever Snap-on tool and it was already well used when I got it. I am 45 now and I still have that wrench, it travelled to Georgia with me as part of my toolkit and I spent 7 years building up my Snap-on tool kit...I have many more Snap-on wrenches but my old combination is still one of the most common ones I use. Snap-on have started to go the way of a lot of companies and they have whored out their name but they do still make some great tools. I am building a home electricians kit and so far every tool I have bought has been Klein, I want the insulated pliers you showed here and the screwdrivers...fortunately a lot of Klein is available in my local Home Depot here in Canada. Great video guys, GO KLEIN!!!...lol

My one big beef with Klein is their non contact voltage tester, model NCVT-1. Go on amazon, home depot's website, and check out the reviews, it is UNRELIABLE. I have only been an electrician for ONE WEEK and I have seen TWO Klein voltage testers fail and give repeated false negatives. I would like to say that I could excuse one faulty product in light of their superior Klein tools, but really, there is no more important tool for an electrician than a voltage tester. Your life depends on it working. Klein should be ashamed for putting out such a product in the first place let alone continuing to sell it for years on end without fixing it.
