The world is forever changing. So will your beliefs. But what to do about what's already online for people to view? Will this stuff ever be used against you? I talk about it in this video, as well as throwing yet more incriminating stuff out there to be used against me later on. Enjoy.
As time goes on, I'll post some examples of how things have changed below:
20 year-old shows being pulled for racism
www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainm...
Jenna Marbles accused in 2020 of being sexist and racist in content produced in 2011/2012
www.bbc.co.uk/news/newsbeat-5...

I really agree with a lot of this video. Times have changed and will continue to change, in the world in general but especially on KZfaq. I see you getting a lot of animosity in the modern CS:GO community for those going low videos and at first I just didn't get it. But I suppose I left that community for the most part a few years ago, partly due to time, but mostly that I just didn't take the game as seriously as most people did then, and do still now. If it were me I would probably take those videos down, but I will admit I can be really weak to that sort of thing, and I really respect that you are keeping all that stuff up in spite of what the modern perception of it is. I hope it stays up, your old videos give me a hearty air of nostalgia everytime I get bored and end up watching them. I think you and me are of similar age and culture Philip... I first started watching your videos with the original CSS hammer mapping tutorials (the ones with the fuzzy audio) and later your game making vids with multimedia fusion. They came out while I was in highschool and I spent my free time for a few years then making maps and games with those. I always found your personal videos entertaining as well, maybe just as someone who herself didn't have a lot of friends into that same nerdy stuff it made me feel part of a little group.

Your point of view is very understandable, and I'm sure, most of us agree with everything you said. Yes, the government is clearly at fault here, this is utterly ridiculous and honestly, it could easily pass as a joke, but, we're also at fault for being the way we are. The majority of us, never stand up for anything, we just look at it and hope for the best. Perhaps it's about time we change our ways (and by that, I don't mean going full-on civil war or anything crazy) but, actually stand up for ourselves. 6:47 I understand what you’re trying to say here though I think pride is half about empowering LGBTQ+ people in the face of their former (and somewhat ongoing) oppression, and half about celebrating the culture and history created by LGBTQ+ people who faced their oppression. This culture and history doesn’t necessarily exist for cisgender heterosexual people because our sexual preferences and gender alignments have been represented in all mainstream culture and history.
@MuteD6
@MuteD6 Жыл бұрын
Hey Phillip, I loved the video, and I found what you said about pride interesting, I never thought about it that way. What I have to say, would be that pride would not be a fight for equality, if equality was reached, but instead a celebration for reaching equality. It would not be "we want to be treated the same way as you do", but instead be "we worked together to achieve peace, let's take time to celebrate as a people", and is why I do not see straight pride becoming a thing, for as long as straight people are not oppressed. Without the need to fight for your rights to exist, lacks the need to celebrate the victory of winning rights to exist, meaning that there would be nothing to celebrate for. If the lgbt community had never been oppressed, there would never be a pride. And because straight people are not oppressed, there is no straight pride.

Nice points. I agree we need to look at past context in order to understand why people held views considered wrong today. I may very well have been racist 100 years ago if I was born then, but that doesn't make it right. If we justify things based on "it's always been this way" then nothing will never change and we would continue having bigoted views. The idea of flipping man/woman, gay/straight, etc reminds me of a persuasive animal rights argument called "name the trait". The argument asks, "On your current moral view, if all traits true of a given human (who has moral value) are switched to match those true of a given nonhuman animal (who doesn't have moral value), is there any point in the trait-equalisation process where moral value is lost?". You have to name the traits present in humans, that justify the differential treatment. Otherwise, contradiction. "Humans are more intelligent". Therefore, if a human had less intelligence than a given animal, it could be treated in the same manner as the animal? I would be interested to hear what you think the justification is.

I like those old yt videos. As a kid I didn't spend too much time on pc because my parents said it rots your brain and I spent much more time outside. These days kids take things for granted and just turn on pc and open discord and play fortnite with their friends. When I was their age my mind was blow when I found out that you can use Skype and voice chat in Unreal tournament 2004 free trial that I my uncle installed from a questionable site. I only remember a few vids of flash cartoon adult parodies from the Zone archive that I watched but now they are removed. I don't know why I'm even writing this at 3am.

Today it's not socially accepted to say Prostituet in Sweden, it's offensive because it's used as a slur by teenagers. You can even be kicked out of Political groups and parties for using that word. They want you to say "Sex Workers". I personally got kicked out of a Facebook group for using the word Prostituet, when I refused to use sex worker. The world have a PC (PC = political correctness) problem, everyone have said something that can label you as something that ends with -ism or -phobia. I have personally joked about breaking up with woman who have hair on there legs, I was called sexist even if I explained I joked. For me, its really like screaming wolf wolf, when there is no wolf. If they call me sexist for a joke, when I'm not, you are actually making the word lose its meaning. Me sexist for a joke? no, real sexism is what happens in China, where couples wish for a baby boy, but end up getting a baby girl, where they end up leaving the child. Thats real sexism.

This was a real good one. I think it's also important to give depictions of prejudice the credit of making something deeper than face value. For example, that Peep Show episode seemed more like a commentary on the standard of being heard in rape cases that men actually face, rather than just being sexist for the sake of comedy or nuance. I'd be afraid of one piece of media really could provide a one-all-be-all answer. Just getting the audience to know how they impact others on a personal-social level is the goal sometimes. Also, June 9th is Straight Pride day! It's yours to celebrate! Nothing's stopping you from walking downtown with zebra stripes and zebra balloons!

What the hell, I COMPLETELY disagree with you. Your example regarding the Queen doing a Nazi salute is the PERFECT example to show what you're saying is COMPLETELY wrong. Sure, the Queen doing a Nazi salute after 1945 would be completely unconscionable, but how is the Queen doing a Nazi salute in 1933 not ALSO FUCKING AWFUL? The Nazis were STILL THE NAZIS. Just because they hadn't done the Holocaust yet doesn't mean they were cool guys. I mean, that's not even getting into how calling for the Queen to resign/abdicate has been completely sensible for about 1000 fucking years considering it's a completely unjust and unfair social hierarchy. No, I'm sorry. I absolutely hate this stupid argument about "the times being different". People have been saying slavery is wrong since before 100 goddamn BC. The fact that it was completely socially "acceptable" up until the 1800s in most places doesn't mean it was ACTUALLY OK. I understand there are smaller, more granular changes that can catch people out, seemingly unfairly, but defending Nazis in 1930s and racists of the past is NOT the right way to argue this. The CORRECT fucking people knew the Nazis were wrong and bad since they first started. The fact that a lot of people saw Naziism as socially acceptable up until the Holocaust is not a "get out of jail free" card for people in that society, it's a HUGE CONDEMNATION of how that society operated, and who had power in that society. If you accept that things are good merely because they are socially acceptable, or that things aren't bad because they are accepted (i.e., the occupation of Palestince, the U.S.A. setting up concentration camps, the bombing of Yemen), you are just fucking wrong and bad. It doesn't matter if you are holding that opinion now, or in 100 years where (maybe, depending on how effective the propaganda is) it will be accepted those were bad. Look, I'm not saying that the times changing should have NO effect on how we view things. I just think that if you look at the history of people making arguments like this, it is generally made by socially conservative and reactionary people. That's because if you are saying something 10 years ago, that we all know was acceptable 10 years ago, or at the age you were, you generally don't need to actually explain it. It's self-explanatory. The only time people need to try to excuse it is when... it really WASN'T OK, even all those years ago.

@@kliksphilip I'm not holding it against the Queen personally, but I think it's completely legitimate we should be asking why our royal family was totally cool with doing a load of Nazi salutes in 1933. Debates about the royals shouldn't be about "how are these individual people", but "what does this institution do and support". So yeah, the main difference is I'm not really asking for Queen Elizabeth the II to abdicate, but for the entire monarchy to be abolished. But, to be honest, I did forget to take that into account and mostly took what you are saying as "supporting Nazis in 1933 was understandable". So as long as you're not saying that, then I'm not as furious lol. Still think you are giving racist grannies too much leway though, and that the general idea behind what you're saying is misguided. The racist granny was just as racist when she was younger. Just because it was more socially acceptable doesn't mean the idea wasn't as bad... people have been saying racism is wrong since forever, the fact it was socially acceptable should be a damning indictment of those times, the people who had power in those times, the media in those times etc. etc.

Gay pride will still be a thing and straight pride will still be bigoted. The important factor here is the history. Straight people never had to face oppression like gay people. It's not simply pride in your sexuality, it's pride in how far you've come fighting oppression against your sexuality.

Sure, but once they're done with their little crusade, will they disband their templars? Or will they just keep going around just because it gives them attention? @@FrederikSeerupNielsen I feel like you didn't even read my comment. It's not a "crusade," there's no organized "templars." It's just a marginalized group of people making their presence known. At its core, pride isn't just a "topic" or a grasp for attention. As I said, it's pride in fighting oppression. Is it so hard to let people be happy that they are no longer at risk of getting stoned, imprisoned, the death penalty, etc.? That they can finally get married? It's not pointless "complaining" - these are people fighting for their rights, because there are certainly people opposing them. You could say they're equal now, that it's all fine - but even ignoring things like the fact that in over half of America you can still be fired from your job for being gay, it's worse in most other countries. There are 14 countries that have the death penalty for homosexuality. A total of 71 where it's still illegal, in some cases punishable with up to life imprisonment. Should we not be leading by example? Should we not let their fight for rights be heard on a global scale? I'm sure you can put up with a few news posts about it now and then. It doesn't really affect you otherwise. Oh man, and I haven't even gotten started on how important it is for kids to see LGBT content in the media. Just you wait till I rant about that.
@FrederikSeerupNielsen
@FrederikSeerupNielsen 4 жыл бұрын
@@plusonerabbit It affects me because it's unnecessary in the civilised world, if they really wanted to make a REAL difference and actually cared and understood the subject, they would protest in countries like Sudan where there is a death penalty for homosexuality. My point is, yes, gays will always be looked down upon, because it's simply in our nature to think it unnatural to see two men kissing, it goes against our needs as a species, even I, who does not consider themselves a homophobe, recoil when i see two men kissing. There is no real point in protesting in America and Europe, in fact it worsens the situation, you only alienate people from your cause by shaming them for not being in your group, and the general public who doesn't care for politics will look down on you for bothering them with these needless protests. And no, kids should not have any sexual content and representation involved in their media whatsoever, the very idea is despicable, and truly disgusts me.
@plusonerabbit
@plusonerabbit 4 жыл бұрын
@@FrederikSeerupNielsen Again, you didn't even read my comment. Third paragraph covers your entire first and second paragraphs. Spoiler alert: if you recoil when you see two men kissing, see it as unnatural, and are disgusted by it, you have internalized homophobia. You've got some feelings you need to work out. I didn't say kids should see sexual content, I said LGBT content. The fact that you consider LGBT and sexual to be one and the same is concerning. It's important for them to know gay people exist and see them portrayed as normal people, because they are normal people. They lead everyday lives like everyone else. When LGBT people don't get representation in media, kids don't ever see that as a possibility, or even worse, if they see it portrayed with terrible stereotypes, they see it as a *bad* possibility. When some of these kids turn out to be gay, it's no wonder the suicide rates are unprecedented. They're taught their entire childhood that being straight is the default, that they'll grow up and get married to the opposite sex, have a big family of biological kids, etc. And when that's not the case? Not even considering outside factors from parents kicking them out of their house, sending them to conversion therapy, etc., they're filled with self-hatred and confusion about their own feelings. Here's my experience: I'm gay. All my childhood, I was told I was straight. I was told it was the norm, that I'd grow up and fall in love with a woman. I had a lot of female friends in school. I never felt any attraction to them, but everyone always joked about me having a lot of girlfriends, and seeing how men acted in TV, I assumed this must be what everyone else felt. Later on, when I became good friends with some of them, people said I was in love with them. So, to me, love was simply the next step up from friendship. Obviously, I was going about this completely the wrong way, but it was all I knew, and every adult was encouraging this line of thought. Let me repeat: **I didn't know what love was**. Girls would ask me if I "liked" them, and I would say yes, not understanding what they meant. I dated several girls until it finally clicked in my late preteens that something was different. Looking back, I'm not sure how I convinced myself I was straight for so long, but I just never really questioned it. I'm sure if the question had been presented to me, and if I had really thought about it, I would've realized much sooner. But it never was, because gay people were never in media besides token characters in TV shows. The thought that I had been mislead about what the emotion *love* is sickens me. I was just a kid, so I guess I didn't miss out on much, but it still makes me feel terrible. How did I miss out on what LOVE was for so many years? I never want anyone else to have to go through the painful realization that they've been missing out on such an essential part of the human experience. Seeing LGBT awareness in the media makes me happy, because I know it means there's less kids that will be misled in the way I was. I know I'm not alone in this - I even had a friend who realized he was bisexual in his mid teens. He'd noticed he felt similarly towards men as women, but never made the connection, because it wasn't presented as an option. Because straight was simply the default, and there was no need to question it if he was attracted to women as well. I don't even want this subject to be a debate, I just want it to be a thing of the past. I don't want anyone to misunderstand who they are. Sorry for the essay of a KZfaq comment, and I realize you're probably not gonna read all of this, but I figured I may as well shout into the void. It's a topic very dear to me and it's hard to see people misunderstand it on such a fundamental level. I'm not normally super outspoken about this kind of stuff. I don't shout it at people in real life, I "pass" as straight (because apparently gay people look a specific way?) and don't bring up my sexuality unless it's relevant. I don't spam articles about it on Facebook, hell, I haven't even used my Facebook account for the last several years. But, as previously mentioned, I like to talk about it when it's relevant, and this is my comment thread, so here we are. Good practice for debates, I suppose.
