RIP 747-400. You’ll be missed greatly in KLM’s fleet.

I still enjoy every flight in my life, but the first one was with an KLM 747 in 1991. I sat with my parents in the front of the business class and shortly after take off, the stewardess came to me and asked if i want to take a look into the cockpit. At this moment the plane was still ascending and i saw the clouds coming closer every second, we went upstairs through first class and right at the moment we entered the flight deck, we passed through the clouds and i saw them from above. The first officer told me some things about the plane and gave me a small metall model of the 747 that i still have in my collection. Untill today i remember this experience every time i am onboard a plane, and miss these good old times, but feel priveleged, that i can keep this experience in my childhood memories.

Incredible actually how far they came in a relatively short period as only 40 years earlier the first transatlantic passenger flight was done by klm in a DC4.

So they took a 747-200 to a plane chop shop and turned it into a -300

Anyone recall their campaign from the 70s, "Come, have an Amsterdam good time" ? I recall seeing those spots on TV as a child back then, the theme music was very catchy.

Joined KLM Royal Dutch Airlines in July 1971 aged 16 years at LHR and enjoyed my 21 years service working for a very professional International airline plus working with a great team of colleagues. Now retired at 68 years of age.
