Thank you very much Dale for all your help as well as the others who posted as well. Now that I know that the bike will handle my size I can really start looking a lot more seriously. Again thank you so much for taking the time to help me out I asked the same question on a couple of other channels before I found yours and still haven't gotten a response and you took the time to make a whole video to answer my question. You also may like to know that since I asked you the question I have lost almost 15 pounds. Again thank you for your time and maybe we will meet up out on the road some time, until then HAPPY RIDING!

Excellent video. I am built to almost the exact same specs as Mr. Todd ( I’m about 5’ 11” and about 300 lbs.) and I can say that my Gen 3 hauls both me and my gear for overnight moto-camping relatively well (over intermediate terrain). I did purchase the factory low seat, which helped me touch the ground on both sides, with the preload all the way up - to better handle my bulk on the rough stuff. I will eventually purchase heavier weight springs and a shock, but for now with a few adjustments, the Gen 3 is more than serviceable.

Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment as well as help Todd with his question. That is what my thoughts are as well, it should work fine and still be able to have some fun without the need to immediately go have her re-sprung. Thanks so much , it is truly appreciated. I hope you can get out and ride some this weekend and I hope you have a blessed weekend. Dale

At 295 without gear, my stock gen 2 spring was too weak for me. Bought a VERY good spring compressor (no, not the sheet metal Tusk) on line (40 bucks) , talked with Rod Davis of Top Gun, and installed the yellow number 450 spring, at the lowest preload setting, night and day difference, less than 150 bucks with the tool. Progressive fork springs with the spacer at 3.375 length going in this winter. Very much tempted to go with the Cognet fork upgrade, but bike has 1100 miles on it, so many good reviews on the progressive kit, I'm gonna take a chance and forgo different oil and valving,, I'm far from a hard core rider. Also, like yourself, planning on Motox tires this winter, Tractionator,, maybe GPS,, lots of loose gravel here, not sure which one is best, but heard nothing but great reviews on both.Thank you for the great KLR video's, and very interested in real world reviews on Motox on gravel roads. Lived in Broken Arrow for twenty years, but the limestone crushed gravel here in Iowa much more "slippery" than the chat in eastern Oklahoma for sure.

Yes sir, I am sure the way I load mine out with the gear for long moto camping trips, it would not hurt to add a better spring set, but for the time being it is still working nicely for the old back roads I am mostly one. Thank again for taking the time to watch and comment and I hope you have a blessed week my friend. Keep us posted on the tires. I need to do some maintenance on this bike and get it out and ride some more before it gets too cold to ride. Thanks again and have a blessed week Dale

Thank you for taking the time to watch and share your experience with all of us, it truly helps. I do believe we have all done it and it is something we just simply overlook until we are being flashed by oncoming traffic at night and by then its critical timing on getting it fixed. The answer is the S model. They have different suspension. On a regular I needed preload at 5 for me and my 12yr old grandson and or 50 lbs of gear. On the S model I can run me at 270 and 80 yr old grandson or in place of him the 50 lbs of my gear on 3. 4 is a little much and 5 too stiff. They made the suspension stiffer to compensate for the lower clearance to avoid impact. By myself 270lbs on 3 I am barely almost at the 2 inch recommended sag unpon mounting the bike. A bit stiff. On my standard 2022 on 3 I was spotlighting squirrels with my headlight etc. Unfortunately mostly people assume they only put lowering links and a lower seat. Not at all. The whole suspension is different.

Thank you so very much for the kind words. I made this as a prototype and along with everything we sell in our leather shop, I want to make sure it will hold up before I take it to the public. MY biggest concerns with this tank cover is I dont have a really good way or have not come up with a really good way to attach it to the bike with out it looking un professional. if that makes sense. You can not see how it is attached to the bike and that is truly my biggest concern and why I have not made any for sale. Thank you so very much and I hope you have a blessed weekend. Fun story for you, I did have a HDS family member contact me via the leather shop website and asked me about it. He ended up making one based off our design himself and I will do a show and tell Monday video on his version of it this Monday. Thanks again and I hope you have a blessed weekend. Dale

Just found this video, and while I am looking at a 2016 KLR 650, I am wondering about lowering the bike. I have a question, as I normally ride cruisers, but my question is when lowering the height of the KLR, using the lowering links, would it be required of using the lowering shocks as well? I can ride a 32 inch seat height, but the KLR has a seat height just over 35. Secondly, if only using the links, would it make the suspension less forgiving for a daily commuter? For reverence, I am 6 feet, and 250 pounds.
@Heartlanddualsport
@Heartlanddualsport Ай бұрын
Excellent question and I will start by saying this, I am 6 foot and a little more than 200 pounds give or take depending on how much I am outside. I have found with my weight, I am very comfortable with the stock suspension because there is enough swish in it, I can stand flat footed on the bike with my riding boots on,. Flip flops, which I would never ride in, I have to tippy toe. SO with the boots on, I am comfortable with the seat height. Something to think about and I will say this, since you are already thinking about it. I think you can actually , because I have done it on my cousins bike who was shorter, like 5-10, we put the lower links on his rear, loosened up the triple tree and lowered the front a. smidge.to level it back out if the makes sense. I am no mechanic and I am no suspension guru, but like you have asked, should.something be done to adress the rake angle by lowering the read and I agree it should be, this is one of the cheaper options if that makes sense. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment and I hope you have a blessed week. If you are dad, happy fathers day as well. Dale
