I grew up with Coldwater creek in my backyard, giant crawdads, surfin on plywood, mudball fights, hockey in winter. Every kid should have a creek.

A newspaper printed on the day of my birth and given to me as a novelty gift reported that as of August 17th 1952 a radioactive waste site had been found adjacent to the Washington University campus. I've wondered, over the years, if that issue had been adressed.

Our family fished a total of hundreds if not thousands of crawdads out of Cold Water Creek back in the 50s and 60s. We boiled them in crab boil spices and feasted on them often. I was just a kid at the time and now I am an old man so all of the adults as well as all of my older siblings who were alive at that time have passed on. No one in our family or members of our extended family who often joined us ever contracted cancer which is the "danger" I'm assuming that is implied in connection with this pollution. [EDIT] We also harvested mushrooms from the same area.

Not everyone exposed to radioactive materials will develop cancer, however, it does increase the risk of developing cancer. Cancer is a complex process, and the risk associated with radioactive waste depends on levels and duration of exposure. Cancer can have a super long latency from years to decades.

my florissant family and friends have been fucked with cancer. half of the houses on my street had at least one person die of cancer when i lived there

@@stellacatfish I did hear a story once about them spreading radioactive particles over St. Louis with aircraft after the war to conduct some weird experiments.

I remember working at a restaurant early 1970s on St Charles Rock and Lindbergh. The back parking lot went down hill. When it rained sometimes it would fill up with greenwater and stunk bad.we had to move the dumpsters from bottom of lot to behind the restaurant. I would never park in the green water😢
