Thinking about a knee replacement? Dr Jesse Chrastil explains what to expect during a knee replacement. He walks through what part of the bone is removed and how the implant fits into place.
Dr. Chrastil is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in hip and knee arthritis. He takes a patient-first approach to medicine, and focuses on minimally invasive joint replacement surgeries. Dr. Chrastil sees patients in the greater Denver area, including Centennial.

While he was at Kaiser Colorado Dr. Chrastil replaced my wife's right hip in a total replacement. Dr. Chrastil is a great surgeon with an excellent command of what it takes to explain what is happening, what will happen during surgery, and what will happen after surgery. Made my wife trust him which is hard to do. Unfortunately Dr. Crastil left Kaiser for his own practice or she would have had him replace her right knee which she just had done. The loss for her was a great benefit for all who do not have Kaiser for insurance, there are a lot of lucky people out there now.

@@daghostxxx1797 I think I will keep my original god given parts as long as I can. For the past 10 years doctors have wanted to do a total knee replacement and I have held off with cortisone injections, PRP injections and other injections. I always ask them why should I replace the knee if it doesn’t hurt when I sleep or sitting or for that matter even going down and up stairs? I am now 64. Plan to wait as long as I can.

@@claudiocorleone7856I totally agree with you. I’ve been doing what you just said with my knee for the past two years. Then 2 months ago I hit a level of pain that I had never had before. All of it was after a trip to the beach, walking on sand and the boardwalk. It was completely debilitating. I’ll be having a total knee replacement in one week. I’m nervous as hell but I think I gave it my best shot.

Thank you! Information like this prompted me to make an appointment with an Orthopedist and was told I am not a wimp and indeed had several changes in my knee. I’m one who had the ‘old’ surgery in mind keeping from looking for further treatment. I now look forward to replacement surgery and being able to walk again with out -pair or fear of falling.

My daughter came in for Christmas. She's 5'7 and I can look her in the eye. I never could before. Will replacing my knees give my height back.

Hey I’m a 40 year veteran of the concrete finishers industry (58 years old) My knees started giving me problems years ago (I should of listened to the “old timers” back in the day who yelled at me for not wearing knee pads. But to late for me I literally just had total knee replacement surgery on right knee yesterday and will be going for total knee replacement on left after I recover The concrete business is rough on our bodies (especially our knees) Only good news is I’m done I officially retired last month I was labeled as permanently disabled 3 generations and 40 years in the concrete business has come to a end Good luck brother It’s a tough road

It depends on what insurance that you have or don't have. My wife has Kaiser total out of pocket expense for the hip was in the range of $300-350 with all of the pre and post visits. Total costs can be more like $500-600, you need things like an ice machine (which really doesn't make ice it circulates cold water to cool the joint after surgery), walker $10-20 at the thrift store, ice, meds, trips to physical therapy depending on what joint it is. For her knee it was more like $200-250 to get it done with the same costs post operation. Having said that the total bill for the hip replacement from the hospital was around $125K then Kaiser worket down to around $20K which Kaiser paid all but the $275 copay. It can be areal bummer if you do not have good insurance.

My best advice after 7-8yrs: Don't have it done ! Been in pain since then, my MD told me to try everything first and do this as a last resort. I thought it would be a magical fix, and trusted the surgeon, BIG MISTAKE !!!
