Knife Making - Forging a finnish sami puukko knife with antler sheath

This is the second knife I have ever forged. It turned out very good, and I am very pleased with it. The knife is a finnish sami puukko made with reindeer antlers, masur birch and spring steel. I made it using basic tools, its razor sharp and it works great for carving and bushcraft.

Seems to me that ppl outside the region, especially those working unlaminated, frequently make very bulky tangs? It is also a very big blade of this type. Very nicely done, at any rate

You can call that a handmade knife. Very nice work. For most knifemakers that means power hammer and belt sanders....

You may save some time on your filing if you only apply pressure on them to appropriate stroke. ie: push down slightly on the push stroke, and lift on the pull stroke. A belt sander would be a huge help also.

Also, if you anneal the knife blank before you start filing/grinding, it will make the work faster, since the steel will be much softer and easier to work with :)

@@zakisworkshop Drop a steel ball from about 40cm high onto the face. If it bounces back almost all the way to the drop point, it is cast steel, not cast iron. It looks like cast steel. A gift? Lucky you! That’s $1500 us right there.

Thanks for the vid. I know I'm wasting my breath and time, here goes. Why do people insist on basting loud noises?! Some of us use head phones and have them hooked home units..Yes if we know it's coming we can adjust. Insead how about some kind of music, I know it can be a pain trust me it it will pay off. Rock On!
