I wanted to try and make my own micarta. And a fellow french maker, Olivier Chambon, inspired me to do so in one of his video (the video is in french : • fabrication / recyclag... ).
I used leftover materials from my Native American Headdress build and cheap "crystal clear" two part epoxy resin I found at my local craft store.
This video is a test, a proof of concept. As you will see in the video I used only few layers of cloth and around 90ml of epoxy. It was enough to make what will become knife scales in a future build.
It's quite thin but just thick enough for what I intent to do with it.
So stay tuned to see what I make out of it. :)

I’m guessing if you put tick marks on the plastic dish like 1/4 3/8” then you would get the micarta closer to the finished size easier? Any thoughts on that thanks for the video

nice job especially for your first time. one thing though, make it thicker. when scale building you can always thin down but adding isn't an option unless you stack liners. a thicker handle is more desirable to most knife users. it gives much more control and is more comfortable. not being a dick just trying to help. good vid.

Love the looks of this stuff!! I'm curious, and I can't seem to find any videos doing it, but what would micarta look like with a printed photo on it? I'm curious how well it would work if you were to print a logo on paper and then make micarta with it. Has anyone ever seen it done?

What type of fabric did you use and does it matter what fabric you use? Also does the thickness of the fabric make a difference?
