I love my knives. ❤ love, love, love them. And flashlights. And 🪓, and tape, and rope, and tarps, and saws. I love My folding saw. I think we have the same one. This reminds me of the talk I had with my boy about knife safety. Good to see this. Thanks huni!

Back in the early 90s I was working as a divemaster on a Spanish galleon recovery project. We were working off a small island manned by 4 Colombian Marines stationed there as a survival training scenario and to keep the Hondurans off the tiny island. One of the Marines had been splitting a coconut the blade bounced off the husk and went between his big toe and next toe (yep he was barefooted). I got called out too look at that mess and said this Marine needs to go back. Thier command said no. I had too sew that mess up at 62YO I think of that kid everyday when im using knive's, cutlass's, machette's, axe's, saw's

I don't know if you read these but I was wondering if there is a bushcraft, in-person instructional class for those of us that are older and may have some small disabilities. I for example had a hip replacement a few years ago and have slight disability but could walk and or perform most skills. Just curious and thanks for all of the great videos

I’m in the same boat, only sounds like I might be a bit more limited then you are. Degenerative disease in my spine, have had bone fusion surgeries but I still have a lot of pain. Besides all that I still have a desire to learn and enjoy the outdoors, at least as much as I can.

@@philw8049 I had avascular necrosis and rt. hip was replaced. I have limitations but a modified class in the field would be really interesting and fun. Most skills taught should be able to be modified as we too will most likely need them at one point or another. Thanks for the response and I wish you all the best of luck while fighting the good fight in your limitations. a large part of special forces skills require mind over matter and playing the game even when injured.

I bought the DVD but haven't watched. After this fine excerpt I now 'need' to watch the DVD! I actually learned a few things (hard to teach an old dog like me) from Kirsten here and I like her teaching style. I'd like to see a video or better - a full DVD on 'real desert' (with cactus, brush not trees, no shade and no water) survival. There's little information on this 'survival' scenario.

@@paul7754 Both lol, but I was primarily agreeing with the desert scenario comment. I would love to see more content regarding flat, dry, brush covered desert.

@@victorchinchillvas I've been inquiring for years and the common response is 'what are doing there'? That is a good question right? There is/was a guy here in the Southwest that taught knife based survival and it was desert terrain environment. I bought his book but I've heard classes better - 'Tony Nester'. Really not much info out there - extreme terrain and weather. We missed opportunity learning from the Native Americans here in the Southwest.

@@paul7754 I see so many videos where tarp shelters are being set up using rapid ridgelines, and people are sleeping on the ground and what not....good luck with setting up a ridgeline in sagebrush, and there are no sticks large enough to use as a pole. Also, even if you are in a bivy, the creatures that roam the desert floor are no joke, and it's an unrealistic setup in my opinion. Sure, it can be done, but it would definitely be cool to see some content geared toward the flat, dry desert. We can hope!😁👍🏽🤞🏽

Seems like that planing technic with the knife point firmly buried in the log could easily bend the blade.
