This lawyer currently carries a Hogue Counterstrike Collector. Sometimes I carry my well-broken-in small PJ Sebenza Insingo glass-blasted and occasionally a Malibu. The paralegals have not been scared thus far. EDIT - I also discovered I really don’t like crossbar locks because of their weak detents.

I wish they would also make products for commoners. I'm always sad when I can't bring myself to buy a knife, just because it uses fancy materials that are not really needed and therefore is too expensive for what I would get. Just by using less fancy materials the costs would become quite lower and I would not overpay for what I would get. I am not a person who brags about the materials my stuff is made of. 440C for example is still a great steel, like D2 or 12C27. Maybe Benchmade wants to be associated with fancy stuff instead of overall usefullness and reasonability. Ait, nuff ranting from me today.

I didn't see last week's on the knife for snow scraping or I would have suggested looking at diver's knives, particularly with blunt tip, titanium fixed blade. Since these are made to be under water, and able to stand up to cold water when diving to 100 feet or more, the wet snow environment would not be a problem. Being a skier and a diver, myself, a folding knife could easily bind up due to the wet and cold right when you need it the most, especially if you are skiing in snow like California's "Sierra Cement", but the Spyderco Pacific Salt 2 and Aqua Lung Big Squeeze Knife are folders specifically made for divers and a wet, cold environment. Scubapro Mako would be a good example of what I would suggest for a fixed-blade knife and I would use it with a cross-draw sheath. There are many diver's knives that would do the job. I bought mine over 20 years ago, so I couldn't even find the ones I have, but maybe your knife suppliers can suggest others.

I am a maintenance worker for a school district. Thanks

Question for KniFAQ: We hear a lot about gentleman's knives. What about some recommendations for lady's knives? I'm thinking something beautiful, functional, fun, and non-threatening. (I already ordered a G. Sakai "flowing flowers" for when it gets back in stock...) Does not necessarily need to accommodate slightly larger than average hands!

Good morning - excellent presentation as per usual. I do a great deal of both Xcountry and downhill skiing. I would recommend two knives which I have used to great effect when skiing. One you have already covered and this the Spyderco Atlantic Salt green LC200N. It is a great multi season folder - very safe. I carry it when canoeing, diving in the summer and skiing in the winter. It has never opened on me when doing any kind of faceplant or tipping over the canoe. My other choice, which I carry as a backup is the Victorianox Hunter Pro M. Really great when wearing gloves - great lock and very safe. Easy to dry and clean. I have one in Alox and the other is with an Orange hilt. Great piece of kit.

For years my dad's knife of choice was an Old Hickory paring knife that bounced around loose in his tool box. His office was a Kenworth, mind you. Still, that knife served for years, cutting basically anything and I seriously doubt it ever saw a sharpener. It was even used as a prybar a couple times, and when it got bent it was quickly hammered back into shape with a ball peen hammer and back to work it went. The point is, a knife is a knife. We may love the designs, the fancy steels and the what have you, but they all can serve when needed. Have a good one.

Greetings DCA and the good folk of KnifeCenter (regards to Thomas behind the camera). I really enjoy KniFAQ, particularly the segments in which you suggest blades to fit various parameters. My favorite blade shape is the spear point (Kephart style in fixed blades). Some of my favorite edc folders in circulation at the moment are the Kabar Dozier, and the QSP Parrot. The so-called “drop point” on the Boker+ Atlas Backlock has just about the perfect profile. Would love to hear recommendations for other edc folders in this vein. Locking blade (any lock mechanism except framelock), 3” - 4” blade length, pocket clip is a bonus, price point sweet-spot between $40 - $80, but don’t mind paying more for something special. I recall Seth mentioning spear points are his favorite blade shape (I believe he was wielding an actual spear at the time) so perhaps he may have some insight as well.

Swiss Skier here. Why do you need a knife to get snow of your boots? Either whack them together until the snow falls of or (if that didn't work) use the edge on the Skis to scrape of the snow. Using a sharp blade with gloves or snow cold hands really doesn't sound like good advice!😅

For a snow scraping knife, I'd go for the Svord Peasant Zero Metal knife. It has a plastic blade with a rounded tip so perfect for scraping snow, safer and no metal to get rust or get cold (even the screws are plastic). It should be easy to operate with gloves due to the large opening tang and no lock to disengage, and a large comfortable handle. One concern might be accidentally opening due to no closed detent, but I'd just tighten the pivot screw to avoid this, or carry in a belt pouch. Edit: It's also very cheap at $14 on KnifeCenter

Reply for Bryan S.: The CRKT folding Razel GT or CRKT folding Razel might be good options for you. And they are only about $50. The Spyderco Autonomy might also be a good option. If you do not necessarily need a knife I do think a pry bar would be the best option, or a combination of a knife and a pry bar.

I know it wasn’t on the list because it’s not available at KC, but the EMPEDC Nymble produced by QSP with various finishes, lengths, drop close action, and a detent tuned perfectly for flipping, front flipping, thumb flicking, “spidey flicking”, or slow rolling (all of which it’s capable of doing)… there’s no wonder why it’s the current champ of fidget friendly knives.

Using a knife to clear out snow is inefficient and risky. A shoe- or small brush with stiff plastic bristles works excellent on shoes and ski binders. Now ice on the other hand, you just use the ski poles. But if a knife is a must, fixed blades. Or a slipdown/pouch would keep a folder from opening. An interesting gentleman would give you one of two kind of answers on his knife. 1. Is a short "its a knife", "it looked cool", "it cuts things" kind of answer. 2. a longer answer on his considerations of the knife. Like blade shape, steel, carry method, etc. But here it doesn't matter if its a $30, $300 or $3000 knife, his "why" is the interesting part. So as was mentioned, the man makes the knife interesting, not the other way around.

That's a great idea. I reckon the prybar in a slip would be the best, because you want a tough scraper, not an actual knife, and the business end would still be sharp enough to do you damage. You'd also want a slip, rather than a zipper to deal with, in gloves, I expect.

Hi, first I’d like to say I love your reviews. As for a knife, if I get the chance to be featured on one of your reviews, I’m looking for a full metal fixed blade knife (making it easier to clean without any other materials in the handle), stainless steel (or any other rust proof metal), so I can take it to the beach, for example, smooth finish (could be satin - reflecting light - or stonewash, as long as it’s smooth like glass - I’m unable to touch slightly rough materials), no coating (usually black paint), under 10 cm blade length (due to local laws), but ideally not much smaller than that, big enough handle for 4 finger grip (maybe total length around 20-22cm, not exactly sure), ideally a sheath that allows to be carried horizontally and vertically (horizontally for when I’m using a belt and want it concealed, vertically for when I’m at the beach and want to clip it directly to my shorts or bag), though I’m ok buying the sheath separately or having it custom made if that’s possible. I live in Brazil, so ideally it would be a knife under $50, so I don’t have to pay import fees and also so I won’t be scared of using it for being too expensive (I do want a cool looking knife, but I intend to use and abuse it daily for any task, whether it is carving wood, cutting food, opening boxes or stabbing my corn cob to hold it while eating).

I wish Benchmade dared to step out of their "box" a little, more often with their folders. I get it the Axis lock is their bread and butter, but other companies starting to and even surpass them with their crossbar locks. Would be nice to see them do more frame locks, liner locks (and even back locks), take some inspiration from the 830, 880, and more recent models. And not just release a $600 model that might be offered for a year. Benchmade is one of the companies that can push the US knife market forward at a "reasonable" price, with premium knife steels and basic scales (and offer variations in more premium handle materials, or even something like aluminum). Just would be nice to see some models with different locks than the Axis lock.

For Cesar Avila - I always bring my Shun Higo Nokami folding steak knife with sheath. It always draws comments and cuts like a razor. Available at Knife Center. It works great and will increase your interestingness quotient by 37.2%. Trust me, I’m a lawyer

For the ski question why not the Kershaw Chive? It has a manual safety. It is my go to backpacking knife.

Question: Hello DCA! I have been looking for a pocket knife priced under $100 with a more comfortable handle. I absolutely love the Kershaw Blackout, but that was discontinued and mine has broken, I was wondering if you have any recommendations for something similar in size and shape. Thank you!

I have worked on tugboat for over 40 yrs. A knife is an essential tool and "must carry" for all of my crew. My preferences are all knives with little to no "pointy bit". Pointy tip = stabbed off-hand when cutting rope in rough seas. My late 80s Buck 315, my 90s vintage Grohman #3 yachtsman (with separate marlin spike), various serrated edge Spyderco folders, cheap Dexter Russel and Victorinox serrated knives for lifejacket. And on my tool belt... a cheap double side (one edge serrated) chisel tip divers knife. Any new suggestions in non-pointy tipped marine environment work knives?

@@garthmckeil9539 Specifically I'd suggest the Spyderco Caribbean. It comes in a sheeps foot variant with plain or serrated edges

I got my Spyderco "Fine Grit" Benchstone finally, which completes my sharpening set, but can you believe the price of it these days? $77.00 on nearly every website out there, but I found a jewel among all the rough. Picked it up for the not so older price of $53.20 HA! YAY!

Question for FAQ: I’m looking for a high end “Jack of all trades” fixed blade. Ideally between 4-5 inches, and USA made. Somewhere around $350. Thanks and keep up the great videos guys!

I wonder what you would recommend for a folder for someone who has nerve damage? Carpal tunnel syndrome and neck issues to be specific. I’ve carried many knives over the last 20 plus years and appreciate the Bugout’s slim design, but the Griptilian works a bit better for me, though too bulky and the Axis lock is slightly difficult to feel. I think I’d like a button lock with textured scales best. Recommendations? P.S. I like 3 - 3.5” blades, but would entertain a smaller, pocket friendly fixed blade.

I’ve finally done it… I finally got my wife into knives (sort of). I got her a pink Swiss army SD classic and she thought it was adorable. Down the road is there another cute knife with more knife DNA that I can get for her? Thanks!

Hey DCA, loving these videos! I have three friends I want to get EDC knives for. One is a door to door salesman, one is in the Army, and one in the Navy. Any budget EDC recommendations for each of them?

So I kayak fish and a knife is a must. It has to be one handed open , light and rust resistant. I'm sick of losing knives that fall out of my pocket due to bad pocket clips. Can you recommend knives that are factory or have an easily available aftermarket pocket clip that really holds onto the pocket of expedition style shorts?

Hey David! I'm in the market for an inside-the-waistband folding knife. Concealability is one of the main priorities, so it must be extremely thin and the handle/closed length should be around 4 inches at most. It should also have a deep-carry clip. Budget is $150, but I'm flexible. Thanks!
