I have this amp without any mods only new coupler caps and electrolytics on the cirquitboard everything works fine when using good RFT EL34 or Mullard EL37 tubes!

Nice to add this mod for the ones who own this Amp. My 6550 has got the same resistors at the screen taps only 10Ohm value, and brought instrument isolated pins to the backside of the Amp so I can measure the tubes without opening the bottom. Nice video's Mark always

Greetings: When the power output tube has its screen grid powered by a tap of the output transformer that it formed what is known as an ULTRA LINEAR circuit (the voltage relative to the anode may have a significance but I don't know for sure).

A nit pick, the bias measuring jacks are phone, not phono (AKA RCA). Otherwise, a great video, your mods make sense.

Greetings: Although RCA popularized the use of these connectors when they were used to connect phonograph tonearm to amplifiers, the connectors are/were made by Cinch/Jones and are called "cinch" in Europe.

@@jamesmdeluca Thank you for the clarification.

I would change the idle sensing jacks to non switching and wire the sensing resistors in circuit all the time. No need to have the contacts there to go bad or intermittent over time.

I'm itching to recap my Knight KG-865 solid state amp! Ordered $45 in capacitors already cause I want it to work right the next 50 years! The only thing I did to it so far was put a strain relief on the chassis for the power cord.

Why not just change *R-19* to 430Ω 10W? If not, then mount a binding post and solder. I don't care for flying parts!

You could.

Mark will the screen mod work for the Dynaco St-70?

I've heard you mention in many videos your preference for having good physical contact at soldered connection points. This is the first time I've seen you not do that and I'm curious as to why. I don't see an obvious reason to not use J-hooks on the wire/resistor connections.

Trying to think of where I didn't on this, I almost always do. Only one place I didn't was on a wire that went between two caps as it was super stiff too short to bend

Greetings: I'm sure the reference is to the 200 ohm resistor to wire connections.

Thanks Mark, useful mods. Would a mod to balance the cathode currents be of use as well (eg. rheostat)? In cases where the outputs tubes are not matched as well as they could be... Cheers,

Another minor nitpick: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/f9uKlpVjz6rZkYE.html at timecode 0:35 should help with pronunciation.

You can't add a link to that post ? You can't provide the schematic ?
