This was SO clear and well presented. Thanks so much! I especially like how you go at a slow enough pace and have enough repetition that someone can practice along without rewinding over and over. Really well done and greatly appreciated.

This is the only instruction I’ve found on the internet that describes exactly what to do with a 2x2 rib that is stretchy. I’m knitting my first sweater and needed a good example that was slow and easy to follow. Thank you! the only thing I had to go elsewhere for was how to handle this in the round.

I need you to be my friend! I have been knitting for 13 years now and so I think I'm good at knitting, then I find out about someone who truly is! I admire you, thank you so much for sharing this method. I always find myself hating the bind offs on my sweaters, but I am loving this one!

I can't tell you how many times I've tried this and walked away with a bad attitude. Lol. I watched your video, and still kept getting lost. I put it down and came back, watched again, and finally got the hang of it. Thank you for what you do. And congrats on Baby Girl!!

Thank you so much! This bind-off is definitely tough. I have a 2x2 invisible bind-off that I like much better - here it is: www.knitfreedom.com/knitting-video/kitchener-double-rib-bind-off/

1) Purl OFF the first purl st, and knit the next purl st. 2) Knit the knit st after that (the third st, the one you already purled into during setup), and then purl the second knit st (4th st) just to the left of it 3) Purl OFF the second purl st, and push off the 3rd st (the first knit) 4) Skip one st to the left to knit into the first next purl st (the 5th st) 5) Then knit OFF the second knit st (the 4th st), 6) Skip two stitches to purl into the first next knit stitch (the original 7th st)

This video was so helpful! After using the 1 x 1 sewn bind off for a sweater, I fell in love with the finished look and can’t stand the typical bind off for my mitts, sweaters, etc. But I was stumped for a 2 x 2. This was perfect!!

This was great! I just branched out to learning 2k 2p for the rib stitch. Was just going to finish it up with the hopping over knit ending, but found this video. Just the right pacing where I could do one maneuver and then pause, try the next and pause. Had to undo it the first go-round but the 2nd turned out alright. Awesome! Thanks so much for helping me learn something new!

Hooray! So glad to know it! I learned this from an illustrated/written tutorial in Interweave magazine many years ago, and it was SO difficult to figure out! I'm glad the video made it easier. You can also do JSSBO on 2x2 rib and it's super stretchy and a lot easier (but not invisible).

Thank you! This has been the best tutorial for 2x2. I watched this a million times and kept practicing till I got it, and was able to bind off the sleeves and hem of my Cardi. My only issue was I used 2 strands (mohair and fingering) and it kept getting tangled with the hem bind off since it was so long,😂 Thank you and I will refer to this video again with my next sweater!😍😍🧶

Thank you so much for this tutorial! I didn't want to learn it (just wanted to do it mindlessly), but your method got through and I memorized it. And thank you for not putting ads in so that I could rewind/watch as needed without losing my place by being distracted 🌠🙏💖

Hi Zoe, thanks so much for your sweet comment! I'm glad you found my videos. They're good for when you just want to follow along and not learn, I totally get that. But if you can learn without effort, too, that's even better! And you're welcome for no ads. I just can't conscience placing ads in a device that is meant for learning. I'm glad you appreciate it. Come to www.knitfreedom.com/ anytime to continue your learning and to get free tips in your email. Hugs!

@elainebos You can just use the tail of the yarn to sew the end of the bind-off to the beginning stitches and even up the edge so that the beginning and end are invisible.
@tine27272713 жыл бұрын
wow! great video. it was much easier because i was familiar with your 1x1 invisible bind off (just used it yesterday). i wish i had followed your advice and practiced it first, but i was too impatient. i only had to take it out a couple of times, not too bad. i'm grateful for your instructions and also that you explain where you should be at with each stitch, it helped me when i forgot where i was. thanks!

@sydbap21 Thank you so much for your feedback! I didn't realize this video was hard to follow. Have you watched my video for the 1x1 ribbed bind-off? Liz, thanks for your comment - we’re glad you’ll be able to try out the 2x2 invisible rib for your next bind off. Happy Knitting!
@dovecoolmoisture11 жыл бұрын
Seems to me that the two setup stitches are the last two steps of the "pattern". Also, she said that every stitch has to be gone into the first time "opposite-ways", before jumping off the needle the "same-ways". So I would start with - knit into the first purl stitch - skip ahead 2 stitches to purl into the first knit stitch Then: (next comment, out of characters)
@Knitfreedom12 жыл бұрын
I know what you mean :) If your rib starts off with purl stitches, I would just bind them off the regular way - like, purl 2, pass 1 over - until you get to a position where you are starting with knit stitches. Does that make sense?
@mjr73783 жыл бұрын

@Wendy10910 Yep! Just make sure you don't pull your yarn too-too tight. But that's what this bind-off is for! I suggest you practice on a swatch first to get the feel for how tight you need to pull the yarn, because it's not too fun to un-do :)

Aaaand...my sock goes back into the time out bag on the bind off. That's what I get for trying a new to me bind off when I have only a bit of time before I have to leave the house. Ugh! I think this method looks like it will be good once I get the hang of it, but your description of what to do went a big fast for me. I had to pause and go back much more than I usually do.

Oh noooo! I just did a whole cardigan doing it the way where you convert 2x2 into 1x1 first. Will add this one to my favourites for future use!

also, the stitch is pretty easy to undo if you take the needle off and pull the thread with a crochet. I had to do this because the first time I did it, I didn't pull strong enough and it ended up pretty loose, which didn't look nice.

If you're starting with 2 purl stitches, when you purl 2 pass 1 over what about the 1 other stitch that will still be on your right hand needle before the 2 knit stitches?
@iggydja5 жыл бұрын
The darker blue swatch at the beginning of your video ends with a purl stitch. I am specifically looking for instruction for a stretchy, invisible stitch that BEGINS with the ending purl stitch, instead of beginning with a knit stitch. Thus, I found the video disappointing when I saw you begin with a knit stitch. Everyone starts with the knit stitch, but it seems no one will start the instruction with the purl stitch.

How would you start this in the round? Can it be done with a jogless join?
@Knitfreedom2 жыл бұрын
Hi Taylor, you would do this in the round exactly the way I show here. Just start binding off as shown in the video. When you get to the last stitch in the round, use this trick to make the round join invisibly: www.knitfreedom.com/blog/bind-off-round/

Liat, you are a genius! The other 2x2 bind off vids I've seen all have a row of twisted sts where the knitter converts from 2x2 to1x1 rib and that seems to me like it would tighten up the fabric - not what I want on the tops of my socks. Do you have a vid anywhere that shows this tubular BO in the round? I want to see how you connect the end to the beginning. Thanks!

Hi Meeta, thank you so much! I agree, this bind-off is not the easiest. For 2x2 rib, I would recommend JSSBO for 2x2 rib (www.knitfreedom.com/knitting-video/jenys-surprisingly-stretchy-bind-off-for-2x2-rib) or, my favorite, the Kitchener Double-Rib Bind-Off (www.knitfreedom.com/knitting-video/kitchener-double-rib-bind-off). I hope this helps!

@LeslieChis Жыл бұрын
I usually like your videos but this one is not helpful for me anyway. I find it extremely confusing because your unhelpful little written out instructions do not specify what order the steps are done in that you don't say whether it is the next stitch you purl into or the one 2 over. I try to find my way back in the video and I just find it is a mixed up confusing mess and I am ripping out what I have been sitting here for an hour and a half trying to do. I am not a new knitter, I have done many bind offs and followed many instructions successfully. I feel your video is very confusing and I am just mad at time wasted. Sometimes you skip 2 stitches to purl, sometimes you purl into the next one, your instructions are so vague and confusing I am very frustrated. I just want to slap you. You need to talk less with needless chatter.

My goodness, all this back and forth explanation makes this hard to follow. I wish she would just do the steps and stop backtracking and explaining every thought! This channel has interesting techniques, but terrible videos. Frankly, it is MUCH easier to learn this if you just turn off the sound.
