Love your video! I am new to knitting and been unraveling all of my stitches when trying to knit a neat edge...last night I somehow got a sloping pattern and j can't figure out why. I didn't miss any stitches as I didn't see any holes. So slip the first stitch and knit all the way to the end and repeat...right? And what if I want to add colour?

There is another way that I read in a Vogue knitting magazine. And I can't remember which end is which, but they said you are either pushing extra yarn in front of you or vice versa, and if you knit the end (or maybe the beginning) of a row very, very tightly, and the beginning (or the end) not too loosely, but just the way you knit, you will not get those big loops on one edge. And I know it works perfectly, but I can't remember which is which, I suppose because I take breaks in my knitting, and most of it is in the round. So I'm trying it with tightly knit beginnings and just regular ends, and it seems to be working. But it had to do with the differences in the anatomy of knitted and purled stitches, and perhaps the difference in the amount of yarn used for each one, and it made sense. And it works.

I do it the same way, the only thing I do a lil differently is when I take off the first then do the second I stop and pull on the yarn a bit which helps pull the edge stitch in making it the same size as the second and ones to follow. Just takes the worry about even sized edge stitches outta it.

@@11sweetdixie Hi, I'm very new to knitting and would be so grateful if you {or anybody reading this} could please offer some advice to me. I don't understand why 2 stitches per row need to be added as this shows only altering the first stitch. And, does that mean when you cast on you add an extra 1 or 2 stitches ? If I am knitting 2 x ribbing, do I slip first stitch, then knit or purl the next stitch - but only 1 instead of 2 - ie slip st, K1, P2, K2, P2 etc. If you add stitches when you cast on, doesn't this mean that your project will be bigger than it should be as per the pattern ? Thanks 💐

I notice you are wrapping your yarn counter-clockwise around the needle. Is this wrap what makes the stitch tighter?
@hectoritoj97
@hectoritoj97 6 жыл бұрын
Just Me I discovered by experience when I started knitting that if you wrap your yarn like that you'll get some kind of a twisted stitch (like a letter "e" in cursive ➰➿) and yes, it makes it a little tighter but I personally don't like the way it looks, I prefer the kind of curvy stitch that looks like a wave (?) or something like that (〰) idk haha

I have tried this but I still get loose untidy edges. The braid looks loose. If KZfaq had a picture icon I could paste a picture and show you. This is worst on the first row after casting on and doesn't get much better afterwards. What am I doing wrong? Do I need to slip the first and knit the last from the very beginning after casting on or from the 2nd row?

Your question is a year old, but I thought I'd jump in. The edge created by Paula of Knitting Pipeline (www.knittingpipeline.com/p/my-favorite-edging-for-nearly.html) calls for slipping the last stitch purlwise (with yarn in front) and knitting into the BACK of the first stitch. Knitting into the back of the first stitch results in a smooth, tight-ish braid, which I prefer to the looser braid created by the technique described in the video above.

Kshav62# I’m late to the party but …… If your knitting project involves a simple pattern, then you should just add 2 extra stitches to your work ie. one extra stitch on each side of your work. Then at the start and end of each pattern row, work the edges stitches as described in the video. I agree with #freetobe# as I too prefer to twist my edge stitches as follows:- With yarn to the back of work, knit the first stitch (the edge stitch) through the back loop. Then follow your pattern instructions up to the last stitch (edge stitch) then yarn forward and slip the last stitch through the back loop, turn work. Repeat this treatment of the edge stitches on every row. For reference see youtube: How to Knit * Edge Stitches * Part #1 * Various solutions by eliZZZa on kzfaq.info/get/bejne/e7V5oc2Tlqmxomw.html eliZZZa describes and demonstrates 6 edge stitches, the plain chain edge and the twisted chain edge stitch are shown at the end of the video from 6:00 minutes and onwards.

What??? This video is literally missing half the technique, you obv can't keep slip stitching the first stitch or else you will have one ungodly large loop on the ends of your project! When and how do you actually knit the stitch? Do you knit or purl it? Is it every other row? Why aren't you explaining these things???
