Lots of fun, as usual! I was lucky to witness the total eclipse here near Lake Erie in Ontario. Along with the darkness, drop in temperature, etc, I noticed a rooster crowing at a nearby farm, and as the sky brightened the birds started "greeting the day". Pretty cool. Also, everytime Kim wears the Cornwallis I promise myself that I'm going to knit it, in those exact colours...love it!

I enjoy your podcast and the interaction between you 3 lovely ladies. I would just like to say there is no comparison between a partial eclipse which you saw and a total eclipse. I was fortunate to experience the total eclipse with almost all of my loved ones. It was truly awe inspiring. The drop in temperature, the changing colours, the birds and the truly magical moments of totality when you remove your eclipse glasses. When you look through the glasses the sun appears quite small and you watch the black tiny sun moving onto the solar surface. When you can no longer see any glimmer of sun you remove your glasses and you are gobsmacked by the enormity of the spectacle. I will never forget this magical experience and everyone I know feels the same way. Spain 2026, Australia 2017 - tempting.

Really enjoyed your podcast today. The laughter brings brightness into my day. I have to commit knitting crime where I live! Living on the Gulf of Mexico in the greater New Orleans area it is too hot and humid to wear or use yarns with wool, mohair, or alpaca for spring, summer or fall knits. We have very little winter time. I love wool sweaters but wear them only maybe 3 months of the year (and not the full 3 months). I am doing a high temperature blanket this year and in January I had 2 days in the 30’sF, 2 days in the 40’sF and 6 days in the 70’sF the rest were 50’sF and 60’sF. So I am forever substituting wool for cotton, linen, silk, bamboo and any combination of those fibers. Gauging is a must! I have learned that the hard way. I love knitting with your wool yarns. What hats and cowls I’ve knit are beautiful. Have the yarns and patterns for the blanket but I’m having to wait to knit the squares, have other projects on the needles. I’m also waiting till I have more energy and clearer thinking for color work. Health issue has slowed me down.Hoping by the end of June things will be better. There are a couple of Simone’s cowl designs I want to do! Thank you all for the laughter, giggles, joy and love of knitting you bring to me.🧶💗💗🐑🐇

Hearing you talk about your favorite colors for the Wallflower blanket reminds me of a saying from Myquillyn Smith (The Nester) who always says "contrast is queen if you want to be seen" in regard to decorating and having a special thing take a prominent spot :). So, I guess you need the least favorite colors mixed in to make your favorite ones really shine! I've been waiting and waiting for this episode to see what the large motif is this month! I refer to all skunks as Pepe Le Peu (one has to be of a certain vintage to get that pop culture reference.) Betsy, re the first purl stitch a knit stitch, Stacie of Very Pink Knits has taught me to pull the yarn back to the rear of the work (as if to knit) and give it a tug, especially in k2p2 ribbing. Makes a huge difference. :-)

Another fun podcast - thank you! I look forward to Fridays :) As an Albertan, I can say we have strong winds - especially in the south - hence the number of wind farms. But - I was in PEI last November and hoo boy! I would say PEI winds are on a whole other level. As for knitting crimes - my most recent gauge-related crime was to ignore the fact that the sweater pattern had cables but the stated gauge was in stockinette and that's what I based my sweater math on. Yeah - that didn't work out. Luckily I am now very good at reclaiming yarn after frogging a project... Always include the patterning in your gauge swatch...😁

@@FleeceHarmonyPodcast We have a skunk living near us. I've called Bentley off him a couple of times, but Bentley is curious and determined to keep a protective eye on everyone. It's evening on a gorgeous summer day. I'm spinning yarn in front of the trailer and look up to see Bentley creeping up the steps behind Pepe Le Pew. I'm a good hundred yards or more away. Yelling loud enough to get instant obedience is not likely to produce a sent free retreat. I sigh and wonder how I'm going to manage a skunk clean up operation without running water. I'm sure I'll have more than enough time to figure it out! I sit quietly and wait for disaster to unfold. Pepe is nearly to the top of the stairs, Bentley's nose gently touches the tip of a fluffy black tail; Pepe continues on, Bentley stops and watches. Bentley's curiosity is sated for the moment and he's decided Pepe is no danger to hearh and home. He returns to guarding me while I'm distracted by wool.

Kim, would you please explain the difference between the plies and when you would use a single ply vs a four-ply? Suzanne
@FleeceHarmonyPodcast
@FleeceHarmonyPodcast 4 ай бұрын
I don't usually knit with more than a 3 ply yarn. It is really a combination of the way the yarn is made plus the fibre. For example, 3 ply yarns are typically rounder than 2 ply yarns. This means that 3 ply yarns are usually recommended for cables - so the cables pop. However, I have knit cables with Selkirk Worsted (a 2 ply). Because of the crimp in the fibre we use, it works perfectly. Where as a 2 ply superwash yarn would lie flatter. There are no hard and fast rules because of the myriad of fibre anf fabrication combinations in yarns.
