Great - I have a sock pattern and tutorial written for these needles coming out in a few weeks!

Kylie Hodges I've been working some baby socks and using Addi Flexi-Flips US size 1 but is actually a 1-1/2 US size or 2.5 mm. The socks have a heel flap. It isn't hard to figure out just two needles on the heel flap knitting back and forth, it is when you pick up the gusset stitches. It is a bit awkward the first few rows but what works best for me is to put one needle for the instep and the heel needle opposite. This means the beginning of your round is dead center for the heel needle and I place one marker. But to pick up the gusset stitches, you pick up the left side with the heel needle, then knit the instep on the needle waiting from doing the heel flap (the instep needle) -- on the same needle you had the stitches on so there is no redistribution of stitches, then when you go to pick up the right side gusset stitches, you use the free 3rd Flexi-Flip and then knit to the other side where you have the all the stitches for both gussets and the leftover heel stitches, all on one FlexiFlip. Then it is easy to find the decrease every other row which is always one stitch away from the instep needle, and I don't have to use loads of markers. Sock yarn can be all scooted together so on the one heel needle you are going to have lots more stitches of course. By the time these decreases are done, usually you will have the same stitch count on both unless you are doing cable pattern stitches on the instep needle. With baby socks I have not had a problem with stitches popping off but when I was using DPNs on my socks, I had to use needle tip stitch rubber keepers or I'd lose stitches. Flexi-Flips all the stitches are hanging out in the bend. But have not tried this on socks to fit me. But am curious about it. What is nice is that when all the stitches are decreased and I knit the foot, the needles are correctly arranged for doing the toe decreases. If you put the center of the gusset decreases not in the center of the heel needles but on the end, you have to slip stitches on both front and back needles so your toe decreases are on the sides of your foot and not 90 degrees to them when you get there. So I like that the needles don't have to be repositioned to the foot tube, as if I am tired and listening to a video on YT or on TV, I can relax and not worry that I am doing my toe all wrong. Roxanne Richards (Rox Rocks on Ravelry) has a sock tutorial on KZfaq and she shows using the Flexi-Flips with a heel flap sock with the start of the round at the end of the needle. This is how I work Magic Loop but it requires a lot more stitch markers. I am sure it would work, but stitch markers often pop off my needles so the less I have to use them, the better I like it. I have a hungry sofa as it is a recliner and I think someday if we will find several DPNs which it ate and I could not reach along with an investment of the stitch markers it ate for dessert. I usually knit socks for me using the 9" tiny circulars and have the ChiaoGoo Mini set for that as knitting a tube in the round is quite easy and I have been able to do a heel flap sock on that also. Having more stitches is not a problem, what becomes a problem with 9" circulars is having too few stitches, then the stitches just are hard to move around the needle. Again, needs lots of stitch markers. I do like Flexi-Flips for socks. I have the bamboo tips from Addi. Very nice and I don't get sore finger tips from them. NICE!

They aren't for everyone, but they're a good option for many.

VeryPink Knits , sorry I just mean if you make a mistake and need to backtrack (eg. Maybe I was supposed to purl but I did a knit stitch) . Sometimes when I go back, the stitches look a bit twisted?

Flexible DPNs are too short for knitting two socks at the same time. For that you want to use magic loop. The magic loop technique is worked on one long circular needle.

Search for "dpn keeper" - Della Q makes them, and you can find other makers on Etsy.

That probably has more to do with the seller, who can set their own prices.

There are some advantage to use flipflex is that you dont need cord for this, and no ladder!! It s most easy ones, however it wont work for sweater, or any large projects which yours come in.

I never get ladders with my short circulars. I think that you should always use what works best for you. 😊

Raymonde Gagnier I don’t think there are clear advantages it’s just another option.

Here are the advantages, as I see them - first, the needles themselves are longer, making it easier for more people to hold. (The shortness of the needles is the main complaint from people when it comes to 9" circulars.) Second, the fact that you're using three needles makes it easier to work increases/decreases and shaping, it's easier to get the needle into the stitches in different ways. Still, I often switch to 9" circulars for the straight knitting sections of socks (feet and cuffs), then switch to another method (flexiflips or dpns) when i have to work the shaping of the toes and heels.

@@verypinkknits , thank you for your answer! I don't work with a 9 inch circular (still can't get the hang of it, my hands cramp up...) but with two 16 inch circular Chiaogoo needles. I also knit sleeves, mittens and hats with two circular needles, it allows increases and decreases without having to change needles, a big plus when you're on the move.

I would contact customer service. One thing I've learned getting older is some companies do really care about customer satisfaction. You never know till you try.

Hmm...they way I knit magic loop is to pull the "back" (right) needle long, so that it is in a position to knit the first stitch from the left needle. In that position, the last stitch knit (that will tighten when the working yarn is pulled) is on the cord. I know it's not just me...other people talk about being careful not to over tighten that stitch. If you have a different way of working magic loop that works for you, that is great!
