The Mountain Frost shawl starts with a Turkish cast-on using Magic Loop to get the perfect number of garter ridges in the garter stitch edging. To follow along, you'll need the Mountain Frost pattern, available as part of my 2023 Lace Lovers club (single patterns available in February of 2024).

Knitting How-To: the Mountain Frost Shawl Cast-On uses the Turkish cast-on and Magic Loop method to start a patterned garter stitch edging seamlessly at the nape of the neck. The cast-on was specifically designed to have the correct number of garter ridges if done as shown. The yarn-over in the 3rd row of Chart A (shown) is the basis for the body of the shawl. The pattern is part Romi's Lace Lovers Club 2023, with single patterns available in February of 2024.

If your goal is to hone your knitting skills - especially lace knitting - you've come to the right place! I'm a life-long knitter and crafter, and I've been designing patterns for hand knitters since 2007 under the name Designs by Romi and Rosemary (Romi) Hill. I created this channel to share the experience I've gathered (sometimes in the most difficult way!) with you, and to offer support for my patterns. I often go live here to talk through techniques, charts, and pattern specifics; and to go over knitting basics. I have a series of shorter videos - Teeny Tiny Tutorials - where I show you just the technique, so you can get right back to what you love most: knitting! If you have a question about one of my patterns or a request for a tutorial, let me know, and I will do my best to cover it for you. I want you all to feel empowered, because you are the boss of your knitting! You can find my patterns at www.ravelry.com/designers/ros... and at designsbyromi.com/product-cat... 🧶 Find out more at designsbyromi.com and sign up for my newsletter to get 15% off your first pattern purchase! designsbyromi.com/newsletter
