I had this question just last week in my knitting group and wholeheartedly agree with you. Slipped stitch selvages are nice for exposed edges where they’ll be seen, like the edges of a scarf. However, as you demonstrated, plain selvages are better for seams.

Yes, they can look very nice at exposed edges! It's really drastic how much it affects the appearance of the seam.

I always wondered. I dont do slipped stitch salvages, I practise to have tidy salvages without slipping.

Agreed. It just doesnt work for stockinette. I have used a slip stitch edge to seam stockinette to garter stitch though. I think it was a hat band?

I could see how that would be handy! You'll still have the tension issues at the slipped edges, but it might not be as noticeable at a seam with two different stitch patterns? It's handy along heel flap heels for socks, and I personally don't mind it too much there since the heels will be inside shoes anyway!

Hi Heather, I don't slip stitches for seaming. I am working my way through Level 2 Master Handknitter right now and actually knitting my argyle sock while watching your video. Thanks for your videos. J

@@HeatherStorta You are so right. This sock is a beast. It's my sixth attempt and I stayed up knitting to the wee hours with a beautiful result. Then I measured it and found out that my gauge is off. Back to the "frogging" board.
