How to work a super neat and stretchy bind off for 1x1 rib. I always use this technique for neckbands, armbands, buttonbands etc.

Omg! This is so complicated yet it seems easier than other videos. Having a hard time grasping it. So frustrating.

I know this is an old video, but you have been my 3rd attempt to understand tubular binding off and the only one I managed to do so thank you so much!!! I have a roving style melange Shetland yarn, the Croft WYS and it is fluffy, stitching definition not its forte, but with your method I can see what I am doing! 🙏

Is this technique called "Italian Bind off" too ? Because it seems very similar and I did it once for the first time this winter (so I'm not absolutely sure). At the horizon is the CalmDownCardigan :) By the way, just finished an Underlace top, will post photos soon!

This is the Italian Bind off. Tubular Bind off actually has either 2 or 4 set up rows that need to be worked first before working this sewn bind off. Many makers use these terms interchangeably but it is incorrect

Do you use the same technique if your first stitch is a purl?
@lilykatemakes8358
@lilykatemakes8358 2 жыл бұрын
You would begin with 'purl on, knit off' rather than 'knit off, purl on' :)

This is where I get confused! So on the bind off, what ever the last stitch is, that’s how you treat it. Knit stitch you sew off as to knit THEN your next step will always be, is to skip the next stitch which will always be a purl that’s on the needle and you will always make a purl on/sew on as if to PURL INTO THE second stitch on your needle which is a KNIT.... NOT A PURL..... please someone help me make since of this......

Just about to do this for the Calm Down cardigan but concerned about the length of the wool I would have to use on the darning needle. Should I use shorter and join? Any advice helpful.

Joining mid way through is possible, but I'd avoid it if you can! Afraid it's just one of those things where you have quite a lot of yarn to work with 🙈

@@lilykatemakes8358 ok - was concerned it might be shredded by the end. I will give it a go later 🤞. Thanks for the super fast response. x

My problem is if I get stopped I have trouble figuring out where I had stopped. Do you have any suggestions? I have been trying to master this all day. I can be doing fine and then all of a sudden I have a blooper. I have a sweater to bind off and I’m afraid to start.

This is quite possibly the most complicated tutorial ever. I started following it and stupidly did the cast off as well and now I’m left with a lumpy wreck of a bind off on an otherwise fine piece.

This looks more normal than what I did and I followed exactly how another person did, except now I can’t remember whose tutorial I followed. I had to undo every stitch because it looked so loose. Am I supposed to pull the yarn tight? It didn’t even look anything close to yours. I’ll try this but I need to know the tension. Thanks
@lilykatemakes8358
@lilykatemakes8358 2 жыл бұрын
Yes pull the yarn reasonably tight! It also depends on the yarn and needles you use - this method doesn't look as neat on loose fabrics as it does on tight bouncy ones. With a regular tension it should always produce a neat edge though.

This is much easier to do, if you knit a few rows of waste yarn and do it off the needles.
@lilykatemakes8358
@lilykatemakes8358 8 ай бұрын
I find it much easier this way without involving waste yarn!
