The very last knife you showed in the gallery at the end----was sitting on a stump with the most lovely lichens. Thats all. After a ciuple of years of watching this channel I am now certifiably cuckoo for puukkos.

Puukkos are great, also lots of really nice lichens here. There would be more but the bloody reindeer keep on eating them all 😂. Thanks for watching Chris. Have a fantastic Sunday.

Hey Tim, great to see another knife video from a knife user. I remember you talking about how we spend too much time thinking about cutting tools amongst the outdoors/bushcraft people, and I think that steel is the topic where we spend a lot of time talking about when discussing said cutting tools. I've had an M390 Lionsteel and CTS XHP Cold Steel and really havent got to enjoy them more than I did more basic steels. I also fondo that the surplus money was much better spent in other pieces of kit or more "basic" products that gave me more enjoyment, like a good pair of shoes, a nice backpack or actual time off to go and enjoy the outdoors. Maybe we could get one rambly philosophy video in the future???
@KuukkeliBushcraft4 ай бұрын
Clothing and sleeping bags are really important. You can get by with just a Mora and a cheap axe really,but when it's cold you need insulation more than anything. We do all like knives though 🤣 Rambly philosophical videos,I am sure I will do more of those 🤣. Thanks for watching mate.

Nice. The high scandi grind of the second knife must be nicely slicey. Cheers!
@KuukkeliBushcraft4 ай бұрын
Very slicey, really good knife. Very similar to my woodsknife hiker in blade profile. I don't think I did a video on that one yet. Thanks for watching mate.

I completely agree Tim, I don’t bother with “supp steels” either. I just use plain carbon or stainless steel knives. I do keep them sharp and lubricated. A little bit of maintenance goes a long way. Thanks for the video and give Unni a treat for me please. She’s a good girl.
@greekveteran27154 ай бұрын
For Scandi grinds, Carbon steels, are by far the most ideal steel. Ballbearing steel, can outperform even Super steels, while being a simple steel, easy to maintain, crazy good edge stability (edge never chips or rolls) and crazy good edge retention too, that many super steels don't even have any of these atributes in terms of performance. It doesn't either rust, as fast as 1095, it's not a stainless, but never had rust, on any of mine and I have a lot of knives, made of that material, because it's by far my favorite. That being said, it's everything else, that matter more, than steel itself. Cheers!

I built his Forester 100 and reviewed it on my channel. It's an awesome knife . I like that it comes with heat treat char still on it, makes a good patina. . I was looking at doing that korpi but was concerned about that thickness of that shallow design. Sounds like its a good cutter, I really like his designs, looks like I got work to do 😁 Thanks for sharing brother 👍

That's a beautiful bunch of knives buddy. I've made a few myself. It is a lot of work. You inspired me in one of my recent tinkerings. I sculpted a little bear head that you can glue on Mora companion handles. Kind of add a little tradition to the modern. I might end up putting them on Etsy. Gonna try to get around to doing a video about it. Wanted to thank you for the idea.

Totally agree, I have carbon steel knives and stainless, i think the closest I have to a super steel is a Brisa in N690c I've had for years. Don't know about either of the knives you showed but they look good. I like Nordic knives in general. You can get good knives from budget to works of art that are all useful, what more could you ask for????
@KuukkeliBushcraft4 ай бұрын
Here in Finland and Sweden they have a good long tradition of making outdoor knives. They know what they are doing. I don't mean to knock super steels as I have no experience of them. I just don't want to pay hundreds for something that I could lose or break possibly. If I was going to pay that kind of money I would rather it was hand made by a craftsman with a small business, hand forged ect than a steel that I never have to sharpen. I do actually quite enjoy sharpening knives. Thanks for watching the video.
@jerrywarnock8404 ай бұрын
14c28n is a great steel for toughness. 420HC has the same toughness but less edge retention. Nitro-V has the same edge retention but less toughness. The only powder metallurgical stainless steel (AKA Super Steel, I really hate that term) which can compare is Magnacut. It is not quite as tough but does have much better edge retention. For a wood craft blade, I prefer a tough steel like 14c28n which can handle some lateral pressure on the blade edge. I have quite a few in 3V and O1, but really you can’t beat 14c28n for the price.
@KuukkeliBushcraft4 ай бұрын
I think I will stick to the term super steels. It's easier to say after a few beers 😂. I don't have experience of too many different steels but 14c28n does take a really nice edge and keep it. Thank you very much for the information. For someone who does so many knife reviews I should probably know a lot more about different steels so this kind of comment is really useful.

I agree with you 100% I don't buy super fancy knifes because I use them hard but I take good care of them. I have found that I really don't care for modern knifes I enjoy the classic knifes so the knifes from Finland and Norway really do work great for me. I like the Sami knifes such works of art to me. I carry a 5 in StrOming on the weekends the 8in Old fashion is my camping buddy I think I would freak people out with that big Sami knife.. Thanks once more brother for a great vid and the knifes look really good. Cheers from Colorado, USA

Great video, Tim. Thanks for sharing! I bought the smaller NKD Korpi 85 from a Finnish knife shop. The handle was really nice material, but mine had a sharp, unfinished edge down one side and required some work to make it usable. (I've seen one review that said the same about another NKD knife.) In hindsight, I feel I shouldn't have fixed it, but rather should have returned it instead. Live and learn. The predator seems pricey to me. I might have to go back to buying blade blanks and doing my own handles and sheaths, like you. These prices are killing me, and here in Canukstan (Canada), there isn't a lot of used puukkos out there for sale. 😞 Cheers! Have a good one!

Tim, you have occasionally commented on Tommi knives. In Finland, are they considered more as dress knives, or do people use them for work?
@KuukkeliBushcraft2 ай бұрын
I think both, they are used a lot for hunting and fishing but also many people (like me😂) have one because it is a classic Finnish design but don't want to lose or damage something so expensive. My boss had one that he dropped while working,it spent the winter under the snow. His son now has it, I helped him clean it up. It depends how much money you have to throw around maybe.
