With about 1/3 the weight of steel, titanium is both a hard and tough structural material. It’s non-magnetic, won’t rust, and it’s resistant to corrosive elements. All this does make it more difficult to machine and work with, which typically raises the cost of production. But we’ve found a number of great folding knives with this fine alloy for less than $100.

I know all about titanium 🙌 my whole neck front and rear on my neck spine is wrapped in titanium plates with20 screws into my spine from a hit and run drunk driver and I am so happy just to be alive and appreciate life so much more🙌

The cheaper penguin even snaps open well with bushings. It's super smooth and stays sharp a long time The OG penguin is definitely the best value/budget knife I have(of about 40 random folders)

I've been meaning to suggest to you guys the Exceed Designs TiRant as a great titanium handled gentlemen's style knife...although it is a replaceable blade utility knife, and from a smaller manufacturer than Knife Center would likely carry, but I think it fits in nicely with the theme of this video. High quality Ti construction and very low profile and low "conspicuous" factor in a true deep pocket carry flipper. May not be likely to be featured on the site or the channel, but as admirers of high quality knives, I would recommend to anyone looking in this category!

I'd be willing to bet that these handles are titanium coated and not solid titanium. Has anyone ever done a metallurgy test on them?

0:43, I maybe wrong, but I remember grinding titanium in welding class and it throwing bright white sparks, so I believe it is sparkling.

For me... I own CS Code 4 with aluminum handle and it's slippery AF. Titanium is not much better, but G10 is doing well for now on the Native Chief

Titanium isn't rare. Lead is rarer than titanium is. It's just a royal pain to extract from the ore, so when you pay for titanium you pay for the process. We haven't figured a simple and cheap way to extract the metal element the way we have with aluminum (using electrolysis) and there really needs to be a huge X prize for the person who figures out a cheaper way than they do currently. A bunch of people keep trying with electrolysis, but everything they seem to come up with isn't something that could scaled up to an industrial level of production and not include a lot of expensive chemicals. You usually have titanium mined in the proximity of where you mine the chemicals used in the soup to separate it from the ore and it's less than ideal. It also loves oxygen, so a lot of the process has to be done inside a sealed space, with a vacuum or inert gas (like argon).

Man that Carter Prime looks sweet , I've always wanted an overbuilt style titanium framelock bit don't have ZT money. It's a shame the logo and branding on the blade is so BIG! would that be later etched in? Doubt you would be able to remove it , especially on a coated blade. Or remove ALL the coating?? Haha I dunno at that price it's maybe worth just picking up to get one in hand. Enjoyed this video , more of these style please! Thanks , DCA , Thomas , and Seth V! I disagree that the liner/frame lock is right-hand biased. It's as easy to move the thumb left as it is right. You could argue that it's left hand biased: when disengaging the lock the left thumb continues in the same direction to get out of the way of the closing blade; the right thumb has to reverse direction.

As a lefty, I've found them to be absolutely right-hand biased. Perhaps in ideal conditions, with a knife that is particularly suited to your hand shape, a liner lock might open "as well" with the left as with the right. But I sincerely doubt it'll ever open any easier, or any quicker with the left than with the right. I would challenge you to open and close a knife like the CRKT CEO with the left hand. That's what it means to be right-biased: not that it's impossible with the left, just that it's much, much easier with the right. Compared to "ambidextrous" locks like crossbar, shark/lockback, or button locks, liner and frame locks are clearly less lefty friendly.

As a lefty I also disagree with you, when I’m closing a right handed liner lock or frame lock it is extremely uncomfortable and my thumb can easily push away compared to pulling the frame lock towards me while trying to close the blade. I have many left handed customs and a few left handed CRKS and a dedicated left handed knife is wayyyy better than trying to make do with right handed mechanisms

Interesting. When I close mine (I have several) I tilt the knife to the left so I essentially push down and left. It's honestly not difficult. It's certainly easier than with my right, since I am a lefty.
