Bossfight compilation Nioh 2 level 1 main game, not dlc. But that will come after release. No damage, no hits taken, no armor, no items, no ninjutsu, no omnyo magic, no elixers or buffs. Not really a guide but contains helpful tips and tricks on how to defeat the bosses under these restrictions. The only benefit I have is that this is a character reverted to level 1 using the book of reincarnation and therefore I have ability to use powerful NG+ weapons and skill points and titles. All main game bosses from the main missions and from the DLC's.

Loving these challenge runs, man. It's pretty refreshing to see these games tackled using some often overlooked mechanics and strats. Breathes a new life into some games I thought I wouldn't revisit. And the commentary is bang-on; good descriptions of the strats and reasoning behind them, with just enough humour sprinkled in to break it up. Well done, man. Look forward to watching more.

Well good thing you don't have to do it without armor because that's one of the most important things in this game. So if you're having trouble, remember that damage reduction from armor does way more than leveling body. In fact, don't level body for HP and don't level strength and skill for weapon damage. Level them to meet the stat requirements for armor. So stamina is arguably the most important stat and other than that magic is very important for buffs and all kinds of handy talisman.

I played, finished and further consumed end game of Nioh 1 and some other souls like-ish games (such as Sekiro) etc. I am definitely no slouch but damn me, you and some few other players out there are in a very different level than the rest of us. You are one of those systematic, well planned, high reflex, ferocious, and most importantly patient players out there which are quite rare. I learned well in time that without being systematic of that level which requires hardwork and PATIENCE, motivation and intelligence, one can not hope reach to that level of play regardless of how much time is invested... 10k or 100k hours would not matter. So, Respect man!

For anyone playing a bit more sane. Enenra: the second kick is always the end of the combo. Tatarimokke: kunai are great at popping the eyes from range with lock-on. Magara Naotaka: the free guard from mid stance is unusually good here.

I've been rolling through on a fresh character at level 1 with no element infusions, no non-tool offensive or buff items (so no talismans, but firebombs, blister beedle, pills, etc are allowed) and the real kicker: No guardian spirit. While I'm not doing no-hit, it's surprising how much gaurdian spirits and the buffs from yokai cores, even when not being used as attacks/skills can shift the power of your character.

Funny thing is I can actually pretty flawlessly beat enenra and yatsu on new game just because I died to them the most. I feel that as the game goes on the bosses become more cheesy with their output. It becomes less of a dance and more of a scramble. Maybe I just wasn't patient enough

No no, I meant because this is a character reverted back to level 1 using the book of reincarnation. That's why I have the benefit of powerful weapons and the minor boosts from titles. But that also means that you can simply skip a mission if you like. So yes if you use a fresh character than you cannot do that. But for a level 1 run I would recommend to use a reverted character to begin with. If not, then each main mission has to be completed

Hey man, you don't need permission for something like that. Nobody has a monopoly on challenge runs. You can make what you want. I mean, you obviously cannot copy another person's video, but doing a similar type of challenge is completely fair game.

I'm relatively new to these fights. And I want to understanding what I can dodge through and when I should be spacing. The bosses attacks are ruthless and I want to get better at the game. Any tips on which stances I should consider in fights? I don't know the big difference between the dash and roll. And when you move left or right to dodge I guess it gives you more distance once you commit to that action? But I understand kiting.

Well as you've noticed I mainly use high stance and I very rarely dodge through attacks. Yatsu no Kami is one of the few exceptions where I don't mainly rely on spacing. As a general rule dodging through attacks should not be your focus. Nioh is all about spacing. That's also why the strong attacks from high stance switchglaive are so effective, because it launches you forward and that's great for kiting strategies. And of course high stance is great because that allows you to do the most damage in a single attack. The main difference between the dash and roll is the speed. Both have I-frames, but the roll is slow and the dash is really quick. But ironically, as I mentioned, I personally often have an easier time rolling through attacks than dashes through them. Beause the dash is so quick that I tend to dodge to early and then I'm already out of I-frames before the enemies attack connects. However, in principle the dash is meant to provide you better dodge abbilities and the roll is like a trade off for having max damage in high stance (so max damage, but poor dodging). But as you can see against Yatsu no Kami, that's not necessarily the case. But again, generally speaking, don't play this game like a souls game. Dodging through attacks is not the main focus. Staying outside of hitboxes altogether is the main focus.

@@PressContinue what about for Mezuki I had trouble dodging through his attacks. So I'll start kiting like you said. I was trying to move toward the side his attack was going to come from like you said but it's a little nerve racking when doing so up close to him he could do anything I tried committing to moving left but he did something else and not the 360 attack so yeah I'll probably need to get better at kiting.

There is actually a safezone behind his back when he does his sideswings, so you only need to dodge through one attack of that 3 hit combo. Of course you need to be ready for when he does the actual 360 attack, but just like I did in the video, you can block that attack. And of course be wary of his backwards horse kick.

@@PressContinue thx alot. Appreciate for you getting back too me! I just started playing nioh 1 and nioh 2. So I want to learn how to deal with opponent animations! I also have a hard time noticing when enemies pause. I tried to dodge through attacks and got punished so I'll make sure to kite. Any advice for noticing when enemies usually pause? Because every time I go in after I think the revenant or the enemy pauses I still get hit. Should I use square attacks because they don't open me up as much as a substitute instead of kiting with triangle?

@@ty3474 Well that is something you can only learn from experience. When you encounter a new boss or enemy in general you first need to learn their moveset. By observing how they attack, you can figure out when it's safe to counterattack. Now when you encounter a human enemy like a revenant or certain human bosses, you can actually recognize their moves, because they have the same moveset you yourself have. And you'll also notice some rules of thumb that at least apply very often. For example when an attack hits the ground or a combo has an overhead attack in it, it's very common that there's no follow up. Grab attacks don't tend to have follow ups either. But in the end what it comes down to is that figuring out when to counterattack is part of the learning process when you encounter a new enemy. Also, there's some RNG involved. For example, the designers purposefully gave some bosses that they can do partially. So for example a 4 hit combo, but they will sometimes only do the first 3 hits of that combo. Or to put it an other way, that they can extend their combos. They will usually do a certain 3 hit combo, but once in a while they will extend that with a 4th hit. I actually mention that sometimes where I say something along the lines of "it's only safe to counter attack if he ends this combo in an overhead attack" or what have you.

I believe switchglaive and dual swords. As you can see from my stats, I have skill and magic at 6 so that would be from those weapons. Heart is from the guardian spirit I believe. Or it was single sword and skill was from the guardian spirit. I don't really remember actually.

Dojo Mission Master of Dual Blades or something like that, will show dual wooden swords, but is a late game mission that i think requires you to actively clear the dojo missions as they appear, did for my first build...

That's what my character always looks like, because I always try to re-create the same character in any game that allows it and I have been doing that for many many years all the way back to 2003. However, I definitely must say that this game's itteration of her is my personal favorite. Nioh 2 has a really good character creation system

Actually you can kill all the bosses without having to use a special cinematic like otakemaru for example or having to use your yokai transformation if you wait a bit they will regain their ki and can die to a normal attack EDIT: I didn’t mean to come across like a smart ass but it’s more of a fun fact great vid btw

First of all, I would just like to say that this is a good video and I appreciate you helping people figure out some of the boss mechanics. The one thing I will have to say though, it's that the repetition of comments like "the several bad design choices of this game" make it seem like the game is like, a bug mess or that there are things that completely ruin the game, when in reality, this game is overall really incredibly balanced when it comes to all boss fights, and it is actually pretty easy to not get hit by them, if you're willing to put time into it. I guess that was the only thing that made me give a step back on it, cause it sounds like you were almost forcing yourself to play it, at this point. But overall, good video.

@@PressContinue okay, so, how do you do to hit the bosses continuously with a combo? i mean, a boss is about to hit you but you hit him slightly before or when you realise he’s gonna attack and you cancel his attack and keep hitting him. When i try to do this i get hit by him whatsoever i do if i don’t dodge or block (i’m talking about normal attacks such as enrera’s kicks) is it because you have to fight with certain stance or why is it?

@@PressContinue the other thing is that i don’t see anyone do this but when you fight any enemy for instance with high stance you can hit the enemy and quickly change stance to low so you can dodge as a dash at max speed in low stance but with the advantage of having attacked heavily an enemy in high stance and instead of rolling away or rolling through you just dash quickly

Because I'm using weapons from NG+ in regular new game. Because this is a character reverted back to level 1 using the book of reincarnation. On top of that, it has a high attack damage modifier, low weight damage boost and I mainly use strong attacks in high stance which is basically your most powerful attack

That's your issue, you have armor. The only reason to wear any armor in this game is for the bonuses. As far as damage mitigation, it's just not worth it. Most bosses can one shot you anyway so damage mitigation is useless compared to the movement advantage of no armor or very light armor.

Oooooh but I would disagree there. Your body stat does relatively little. it IS your armor what protects you from damage. On my blind playthrough I focussed mainly on leveling stamina and wearing heavy armor and it made me quite tanky. Yes, light armor sucks. I would agree there. Heavy armor is definitely worth it. On top of that, you lose less ki when you block. But you forgot one massive downside to no armor, namely no toughness. Meaning many attacks either drain all your ki when you block, or you can't block them at all. And that is much more noticable than the small agility bonus you get. Agility A and B is not THAT much difference.

Basically a throwback to my nioh 1 playthrough and given that I'm using powerful ng+ weapons, those would have been a little bit too strong for the first 2 bosses. So for those I went for a wooden sword instead

level 1 and yet his damage is higher than me... im lvl 143 currently at ng for searching smith text with full armor and bonus atk. seriously, im using tonfa lvl 160 divine, hit saito only 300 per hit !!

I don't remember exactly what I was using, but it was obviously not from regular new game. Kinda goes to show how these bosses have more health than they should have. But another thing that will make your attacks hit hard is using switchglaive in high stance. I mainly use strong attacks as I mentioned repeatedly. So powerful weapon, most damaging stance + strong attack equals good damage. And of course when you hit an enemy in the back you'll do significant bonus damage.

@@PressContinue ahh yeah, your sword also deal higher dmg... im using saurtobi gunstick mid stance 300 dmg high stance 400-600(critical) only skill atk that deal +1000 dmg. i will try glaive later.. thank for answering.

Which fight? I know Mezuki takes a lot of ki damage but most other bosses only tend to take a lot of ki damage from destroying certain body parts and from burst counters.

I really don't know what I'm doing wrong. I'm at level 48 and I'm not dealing this damage. At I'm getting frustrated and almost dropping this game. I enjoyed first nioh, but this one of mine seems to be broken. :(

Well the reason I deal a lot of damage is because I use powerful weapons as this is a chacter reverted back to level 1, basically like how you would use the red tearstone ring in Dark Souls but there's no really good equivalent of that in this game. However, if you use items and espeically yokai skills you could do way more damage than I do, especially by draining ki which yokai skills are perfect for. Also if you focus on your equipement stats like doing extra damage when an opponent is out of ki, equipment lightness or extra scaling based on a specific stat or what have you, you can do increddible damage. In fact, if you look at bossfight compilation for this game, you can find a whole bunch of videos that show how to be completely overpowered. But despite that, I do think that bosses simply have too much health in this game to begin with. That's why I would never have done this challenge with low level weapons. It would be so tedious, especially without yokai skills and items.

Thanks a lot for the reply. But now the most powerful weapon I've found is around 500. You have the double of it almost since the beginning. It's really odd. I don't have a clue how to improve that. :(. I think I'm going to drop every skill and begin again using the book of something. I'll give one last try.

@@mneyrs As I stated in the description box, the weapons are from NG+, so you can't find the equivalent in regular new game. Remember however that you can use buffs and talisman, like the weakness talisman decreases the bosses defenses, carnage gives you a massive damage boost, you can use projectile attacks from both omnyo and ninjutsu, yokai skills and don't forget about the cores as well of course.

This is impressive. Especially since a lot of the bosses are not nearly as fairly designed as say, From Software bosses. Its not as bad as Nioh 1, but some damage is inevitable. That's why I'm such a fan of From's games but despite that, tge Nioh series is one of my favorites of all time

I rlly wanna like this game but just cant I get souls are meant to be hard but normal ass enemies killing me in 2 hits is very annoying feels like the game decides when to fun which it mostly isnt i dont like the combat either i understand it but its very boring i see this game as the bad version of sekiro

No I didn't. I blocked it. As I explained in the intro, I either took no damage OR no hits from a boss' attack but only from the fire on the floor against Katsuie and Kasha. That's the difference. There is no restriction on blocking.

@Clint Loma Dude, you know that's freaking impossible. The whole point of no armor is to have the movement advantage (also Ki, in this game) and utilize the invincibility frames of the dodges and rolls. Without those invincibility frames and you're just sitting in heavy armor and basically have ZERO chance. With a heavy axe? Are you kidding? Non-sense my dude, non-sense.

Not to take away from the video but there's actually so much incorrect information here. For instance, both your quick dash and your rolling dash have and you can Dodge through nearly any attack, including in my experience several burst attacks. The only things you have to dodge physically around that I've noticed is grabs, and even a few of those I've actually managed to dodge through rather than around. The thing that catches people is how tight the frames are on the Dodges themselves. For the role you have 20 frames which is about a third of a second on 60fps. For the quick Dodge it's 10, and now you can see why it might be a bit tricky to pull off. Once you get a feeling for how the quick Dodge works, you realize it is Superior in almost every single way minus number of available frames. So saying that there's some attacks you can't Dodge through is just factually incorrect and is just a skill related issue. Literally just get better and it feels crazy with some of the stuff you can weave around with non-stop low stance dodges. Real ultra instinct shit
