When you go to the Parts store and ask for a knock sensor they will tell you your truck does not have one, in fact if you are driving any Ford EEC ford from the 80s or 90s you will have a knock sensor, they dont go bad that often so no one wants to carry them, bo I assure you they do exist.
I'll show you what it is and what it does and how to replace one.
Don't forget merch, you can get that cool 10 MM shirt and always know where you 10 MM is, and ASG logo shirts as well at

You can get a Knock sensor for your OBS ford here, the Amazon page will say it does not fit a 95 F150 but it is the right one, or as close as you can find anyway, and it will work.

I busted mine yesterday, put in a new distributor, not sure it wasn’t broke all ready but you save us with that knock sensor information, 12A699AA found on Amazon and is also on eBay. Everyone telling us we have to do without or modify, Without your videos this information wouldn’t be known. 👍

Good video! I had similar problems with my OBS F150. Replaced many components trying to isolate the problem. Finally found water/moisture accumulation in the MAP sensor. Replaced and sealed . It seemed to work. Hope this helps. Originally posted this on your “Daytime Running Lights on an old truck” DUH… my bad, it is what it is. Any way, Very good videos! Thanks for sharing.

I’ve had a slight miss in mine for a few years. Nothing seems to fix it. It sounds fine, runs good, but the engine shakes periodically during idle. I’ve changed every sensor on it in the last 2 years. I have Taylor wires and Motorcraft plugs, and a new distributor. I replaced the back fuel tank and pump. I will be replacing the fuel injectors since I’ll be taking the intake off for a refinish. I may even replace the lifters and rods. Everything in the intake system will be cleaned or replaced. I’ll let you all know if I find anything useful for anyone to consider on their truck. I completely understand the frustration. I just plan on keeping mine forever. If the 6 dies, I’m replacing with a crate 302.

It seem you’ve been having this problem for awhile if I were you I would get a new computer and if you have the time swap over to Maf, Runne rite makes a kit very simple literally plug and play. If a sensor is out your going to get codes unless your computer is shot and if your computer is good then it can only be two other things and that’s a vacuum leak or fuel problem like bad injector, clogged filter or fuel pressure regulator and or bad timing. When doing vacuum leak test you need test at idle and reving it to literally every line you can either simpley cap the line and if your problem goes away you found the leak or you need to move on to the next line. You can’t do that with every line but majority of them you can or you can by a gauge and do it that way which is what I recommend. . I had the same problem in my 1995 f150. I replaced literally every sensor and it ended up being my map and icm were bad but that didn’t totally fix it it had a small hesitation and in stop and go traffic after about 10 mins the idle would start surging. All these problems went away once I converted to maf a with a new a9L computer.

Good call, the type of hose you replaced could be collapsed on vacuum somewhere if it's not a good hose or it's switched up somewhere. I saw this guy had his engine bay with color coded silicon vaccum tubing, that's my next project with tucking them out the way for a cleaner look, but good lord do I not want to chase a vacuum leak. Could be a blown-out gasket for the intake by the cylinder knocking. We know you'll figure it out.

Disconnect battery after replacing sensors,so computer will recognize input from new component. Also a bad computer will cause these problems. The capacitors go bad or their connections corrode and break.
@AintScaredGarage
@AintScaredGarage Жыл бұрын
OK so I'm going to try that, I put the old one back in but I'm going to put the new one back and disconnect the battery, I've had the computer apart and none of the capacitors are corroded at all. thanks for this I hope it works, the truck also runs rich and I suspected the knock sensor is causing the computer to ether tell the system to richen up the mixture or retard the timing, but I hope this works, again thank you, this is what I hope to see on the channel, people helping out others
@Randall-mt7jk
@Randall-mt7jk 2 ай бұрын
Everytime engine knocks pings it vibrates through engine block at a certain frequency the knock sensor picks up this frequency and the computer precisely adjust timing to stop ping. Throttle position sensor and oxygen sensors can also cause rich or lean mixtures. Also as you said injectors,especially on trucks that are not driven regularly. Try some risolin fuel system cleaner . I put a whole quart in the tank ,it worked good . Eec 4 is a simple reliable system . I prefer it over any finicky carburetor! Oh also air and temperature sensors . 400,000 on 88 4.9 and still running smoothly . 90 4.9 200,000 and still running smoothly. As you know all sensors work together, and any one failure will upset everything!
