Lucy saw that if she lived with Gary & Valene she'd lose the perks of living in Dallas and Southfork. No Evening Meals, Cocktails, Fancy Clothes & Cars. Also keep in mind that Gary told Lucy that he and Valene didn't live off of The Ewing Money and I think that scared her a bit.

I agree that Lucy should have made further appearances on KL, as should other Ewings. (Personally, I would have enjoyed seeing Miss Ellie visiting, since Gary was always said to have been her favorite). Bobby and JR are the only others ones I can remember appearing. I do seem to recall reading that, after the "Bobby's death was all just a dream" business (which also screwed up KL's continuity too, since Gary had been shown mourning his brother, who was, in fact, now alive. and also, one of Val's twins was named Bobby, in his honor), the KL writers decided to not only end having characters cross over, but to also stop even referencing "Dallas" characters and storyline altogether from that point on.
@radrobd1234 жыл бұрын
Mary Crosby as Kristin also appeared after Kristin shot J.R. She caused some trouble in the cul-de-sac for one episode. It was obviously a ratings grab to boost Knots ratings. After early season 4, no Dallas character ever appeared on Knots again.
@jad81233 жыл бұрын
I always thought this was one of Knots Landing best scenes. Unfortunately, they didn’t continue on with the Lucy crossovers after this. TPTB wanted Titlton strictly on Dallas at the time so nothing would ever become of Gary, Val & Lucy storyline.

I remember watching the Short Lived Spinoff of Dynasty called The Colbys and there was Bliss who they tried to be like Lucy Ewing, she was a Poor Little Rich Girl who felt that she didn't measure up to her Family. Monica and Miles were successful Executives and Miles was a Champion Polo Player. Jason ran a Successful Oil Company while Sable ran a Successful Art Gallery.
@tsutsuji13 жыл бұрын
The Colbys was just a cheap (though very expensively made with BIG names cast in leading roles) knockoff of Dynasty. Even the opening credits mimicked Dynasty’s. Knots Landing, whilst a spin-off of Dallas, was a completely different beast altogether with its original focus being on suburbia, married couples and their relationships and friendships.. stuff ordinary people can relate to. Knots Landing was on air for 14 years with a strong fan base whose love for the show remain intact. The Colbys started with a bang but without a solid premise and grounded characters it quickly fizzled and disappeared into television oblivion.

It is extremely weird that Lucy only ever appeared in ONE episode of Knots Landing (a lot fewer than JR and Bobby). Watching Knots Landing, it was like Gary and Valene didn't even have a daughter. If anything, Lucy should have frequently appeared on both shows, traveling back and forth between Knots Landing and Southfork, as this would have kept close connections between the two programs over the entire 1978-93 period.

@LBF5227 жыл бұрын
Yes JR's motivations here did not make any sense. He should have wanted Valene and Lucy to reconnect. If they reconnect they would leave Dallas and Gary would ave no reason to ever come back. Lucy would have been better suited on Knots Landing.
@deontyler9606 жыл бұрын
teresa phernandez J.R. looked at ALL siblings as competition to the Ewing money, business and estate as a threat. J.R. wanted their father Jock praise and love for himself along with to run Ewing oil company and money for himself. Gary the oldest, brother at the time failed as a businessman didn't have guts and loss money in drinking and gambling back then to father Jock dismay while living with his family on the Southfork ranch. Gary was involved with Valene at that time was the first to give Jock a grandchild heir, Lucy which made J.R. jealous cause he wanted to be the first and only out the siblings to give Jock an heir, so J.R. ran off Gary by setting him up to feel like he's a loser and failure. Valene left all alone with J.R. threats fled with baby Lucy too, but J.R. parents wanted Lucy. So, J.R. and his hired boys scared Valene to give up baby Lucy and scared Valene to not to return. J.R. tried to run off the little brother Bobby too, but Bobby who had a backbone stood up to J.R. which is why J.R. look at Bobby as his true brother and love and respect Bobby more than Gary and Ray.

Despite Valene. being Lucy’s mother, JR still saw Lucy as a Ewing with their blood flowing thru her veins and so should be raised as such on South Fork. JR had Lucy kidnapped from Val when she was just a baby as he felt Val wasn’t fit to raise a ‘Ewing’. Lucy was brought back to South Fork and from there raised by her paternal grandparents, Jock and Miss Ellie. I don’t know if Lucy even knew or met her other grandmother, Lilimae, Val’s mother.
@chandlerwhite83025 жыл бұрын
Gary was a raging alcoholic, so honestly he didn’t need to be anywhere near an infant. JR and Jock judged Val harshly because she didn’t have money. They had no right to take Lucy from her. It was plain and simple kidnapping and Val tried to get Lucy back, but JR bought off the Sheriff and the judges.

This never sat well with me. Gary and Val moving to California to start a new life for themselves meant that for a second time they were abandoning their own daughter. In the 1978 DALLAS novel by lee raintree (before the series was aired)....lucy was not gary's daughter...she was actually JR's secret lovechild with valene (who in the novel was named maureen) maureen was cheating on gary with JR secretly for years. Gary found out about the affair and who lucy's father is, when he came home to surprise maureen after being licked up in a alcoholic detox sanitarium. He beat maureen and left southfork for good.

Those Lee Raintree (real name Con Sellers) books were his own fictional version of Dallas and Knots to capitalize on their success and to write trashy romance novels. I think the first book was released in 1981. David Jacobs created both shows and wrote the story bibles of these characters.

It stopped being boring when she found out she was sleeping in the hayloft with her uncle, Ray, eh?

She was married and nothing.

@@CaptainSpalding72 I agree. That marriage to Mitch was boring as watching paint dry. The writers did not have anything for her to do. When they did write for her, they were silly boring stories seperate from the main family storyline.

they always made Lucy look stupid. She picked creeps for boyfriends, she slept with a married guy, older guys. What was her glitch? She should have made her the exact opposite of Gary and made her money and power hungry like JR. It made no sense why she was antagonistic towards JR.
