"I just converted and I'm on fire! How much of my life to revolutionize or how much of my stuff do I give away? Is there something to be said for moderation or is it just turbo all the time?"
Fr. Gregory Pine (O.P.) takes on all these questions.

I appreciated the brief discussion on how to reconcile the objective aspects of moral value with the subjective. I look forward to a time, if ever, when Fr. Pine might deem it worthwhile to elaborate further on such topics.

This lesson was very hard for me to follow. I am recently baptised (3,5 months ago) and I worry sometimes if Im too zealous. Shall I try to temper myself down or is it a good thing ?

"zeal for your house will CONSUME me" also never heard of St. Terese jumping over a railing to see the pope, but I've only read her own work. Where does that story come from? i also think the problem is conflating charity with "being nice." loving others does not always mean you will be bubbly and nice all the time, that is in fact not loving or charitable. there is a time for seriousness and even for righteous anger, and just as in God all things are one, these things are consonant with love and charity as they are meant to lead others to God and the salvation of their souls. We need to be careful not to shoot people down just because they push back a little against the culture, instead of being walked over all the time in the name of charity.

The simple answer is that we go too far with our zeal for the Lord when it gets used in any type of sinful way. In Christ, Andrew

Just yesterday I was trying to explain this concept to a young christian who isn’t the type to question his faith or really even think about it critically. I think I did alright. I was saying things like “It’s really hard to believe that someone who claims to have had an internal revelation is telling the truth if they are still performing their destructive behaviors at the same frequency and magnitude”. I also said that someone on their death bed who has sinned all their life cannot suddenly convert and get into heaven, because what is causing them to suddenly believe is actually just shallow fear, not a change of heart. He said that the only thing that matters towards getting into heaven is the internal belief, and I agreed, but I also told him that we can’t make those judgements about people, only God can, and so we shouldn’t assume that people are saved if their behavior is contradictory to what the internal belief would cause them to express. 😅. It’s a really hard concept to simplify to a person who by has a hard time grasping complicated concepts, or even mildly layered ones. He is blessed in other ways, but not that one.

With respect you absolutely cannot just assume that death bed conversions can't happen. Honestly I'm gobsmacked you'd even say that. Who told you that?

@@anthonymarchetta8796 Maybe I should clarify that “by someone on their deathbed who has sinned all their life can’t suddenly convert” I meant someone who rejected God in every decision they made until they found out they were dying. And my whole argument wasn’t that we should dismiss these things as a possibility, just that we should acknowledge how fear influences behavior, and not believe every account of this phenomenon. Of course we all sin all our lives for the most part, I shouldn’t have said it like that, but like I said, it’s a difficult point to explain. Maybe this video wasn’t exactly the conversation I had, but it touches on the same themes.

@@Mahhkz I don't even agree with that. As others have said, fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. I have no idea if they repented or not, I pray that they did, and certainly would not place odds if they have expressed repentance.

I couldn't believe they make trips to Canadian (and I'm sure many other countries) universities just for the purpose of bringing others to the faith. It's like whole groups of young men and women from the States who take time off their education to travel and evangelize. Seemed almost like an initiation. As a Catholic (considering sedevacantism) I wasn't interested in converting but I was interested in learning and having a dialogue. However listening to a bunch of super zealous 18 year olds really turned me off. I know not all of them are like this, but with many of them it was like they had no personality outside of their mission; their eyes seemed almost glazed over with how assured they were. Just a really big turn off in terms of having a genuine dialogue. Without that initial humility, you've lost me.

Yeah, we must not fit in at all, unless you're factoring in "fitting in" as a coworker would in a totally morally acceptable business kind of situation; beyond that, fitting in is a doorway to worshiping the world and its god; and thus sorcery in a nutshell!
