Knowledge Equity Pathways: Building Sustainable Futures
In this session we asked panellists, what is the role of universities in promoting sustainability through knowledge equity and exchange, with the 2030 Sustainable Development Goal deadline fast approaching.
This session was chaired by Peter Ptashko, a sustainability expert and CEO of Cambio: House of Social Change.
Guest speakers included Professor Manuel Barcia, Dean of Global Engagement at the University of Leeds, Matt Bullivant, Director of Sustainability and Environmental Social and Governance Strategy at OakNorth and Seb Elsworth MBE, CEO of Access - The Foundation for Social Investment and Professor Susie Siew Yuen Ho, Director of the Monash Innovation Guarantee at Monash University.
The headline topic for the event was ‘Knowledge as a key driver for Sustainability’ and the event focused on the following key themes:
• The United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals, ahead of their 2030 deadline (sdgs.un.org)
• The role of Knowledge in Equality, Diversity and Inclusion & Social Justice
• Knowledge Exchange and Social Impact
• Knowledge Networks, International Partnerships and delivering Climate Justice
• Sustainability as a priority for International Higher Education
Our guests set the scene for the crossover between knowledge, equalities and sustainability, examining where a university’s role starts and ends.
The discussion explored the advance of knowledge equity in global higher education and asked how this can be used to better promote people and planet, rather than just profit.
Our international panel discussion was hosted live online from our state-of-the-art Helix facility here at the University of Leeds.
