Fun fact Just blaze did that beat. It was his 1st time working with Em and he told him after Em recorded it " You was a little off in the 2nd verse." Em heard the tape and said " I don't think I was" then left. Blaze thought he was gonna get fired for daring to critique Em but Em called him later that night and said " Hey. I just wanted to let you know I heard the tape again like 50 times. You're totally right. I was off beat at that point. Let's record the song again tomorrow and thanks for being truthful. I'm surrounded by yes man here"

Greatest song on this album is "On Fire".. Hands down. Just my opinion. 🙂 P.S. This album saved me from suicide back in the early 2010s when I was at my lowest point of life. My grandfather had died and during that time "the love of my life" cheated on me and was just being a selfish garbage piece of manure. Thank this album, I'm still here. Ironic the title of the album for sure! Literally was MY recovery. 😭🙏

Finally! I remember when this dropped i had been bumping relapse and it felt so re energized and unique...this was one of my favs on the album and on fire. loved the album so much i remember that i understood 25 to life the first time i heard it as a writer myself, it helped me catch the meaning just by the hook alone. no one i jammed it with knew what it was about and it made me appreciate the metaphor even more. very inspiring album

Thanks for the breakdown Knox. Another masterpiece fam! I saw some other breakdowns of this track and wanted to hear/see yours as well. This track is really putting on display how great of an emcee/lyricist Em is. I think what separates him from most every other rapper is his technical skill/technicals. all of his tools in the toolbox are ridiculous but his delivery and cadence/timing are on pluto or mars somewhere. It’s like every bar has multiple double/triple/even quadruple entendres. I honestly think that it has gotten to a point that he doesn’t ever have to try hard to do it after he has been writing for this long it just naturally happens, which is an insane skill in and of itself. That Michael J Fox scheme is insane, he ends it with “Michael J Fox will come to a stand still” which is insane enough, but the beat turns over again to start the next bar and it sounds like he’s starting the next scheme with “during an earthquake” but he’s really still drawing off of the parkinson’s thing, Fox can’t stand still normally, but no one can stand still in an earthquake because the earth is literally quaking (shaking). To start that next bar with that as if it was part of the next scheme and rhyme with it “urine in your face cause you’re fake” but still. have it driving the point home of the whole ‘stand still’ thing from the previous scheme/bar like that is next level writing/emceeing!!!

Hey Knox I think itd be an interesting series idea to revisit albums and projects a year or 2 after their release to see how they stood the test of time and how they effected the artists career and the music culture as a whole
