I live in a small town in central Maine and about 10 years ago after a couple of tries we voted to get rid of our town police force and rely on our county sheriff's office instead. I lived in Rockford, IL back in the early 90s. I had a small fishing boat tied to a dock on the Rock River. One morning I saw it was gone. It was filled with my fishing gear and tackle. I called the police and reported it stolen. About a month later the police called me and told me they'd found it. I called their police impound lot and asked if all my fishing gear was in it, they told me "No". So I asked where they found it and they told me a person living downstream found and reported it, so I asked for his name and address and they gave it to me. I called the guy who found it and he told me all my fishing gear was in it when the police came to get it the same day I'd reported it missing. So I called the police impound lot again and told them that the guy who found it told me all my gear was in it when they took it. They told me they'd get back to me, and they did about 3-4 hours later. Told me they'd been mistaken, and all my gear was in it. When I got there everyone of those working there treated me like shit. Like I was stealing from them. Perhaps the folks who live there, including the new Mayor, knows something similar about those police who quit after he got elected, and maybe that's why he got elected.

I had to call the police Dept and tell them to send another cop because the last one was too stupid to comprehend anything. The same cop showed up 10 mins later and asked if I wanted an accident report filled out on my undrivable totaled wrangler? How Stupid could a person be and a cop at that. My understanding the Goodman police had a sweetheart deal with the outgoing mayor and the new one was not gonna renew it. Also that most of the revenue from the police was from questionable speed traps.
@mikewaterfield3599
@mikewaterfield3599 Жыл бұрын
Ok a few points here, fees collected from traffic tickets are collected by the judiciary not the executors, and in most states that just becomes general budget pooling. So no, police departments are never directly funded by “ticketing”, incidentally if you are speeding at any level you are a viable candidate for a traffic stop. In Maryland it’s unheard of to get pulled for less than ten over, in Virginia people can and will be ticketed at four over. On another note define “sweet heart deal”. People forget that police do not make policy they are the instrument of policy. 90% of the time if your angry about something a cop does, look at the politicians first. This goes double for legislators. Politicians are all too happy to take credit for police work when things go well, and only too happy to chuck officers under the bus when their half baked policies fail. Sort of like how the mayor of Portland proudly tells everyone how they have the fewest cops per capita of any US city and will also deride cops for slow response times. Or my personal favorite, how Oregon’s DA refuses to prosecute anything short of murder tied to a riot and will scream about how cops are not doing their job.

A police officer who is doing the job for cheers is the same one who lets the authority get to his head. it's because: When humans are content and happy for to long, they become lazy and easy to manipulate. This even happens on a presidential level... If the going is perfect, people won't show up to vote. They believe sense everything is good how can there be enough people, not voting to continue this bliss. During this bliss they don't understand they have a enemy called the other party. Even though the other party is also making money and is in bliss, they hate it. They hate it because, the happy and bliss is coming from their enemy. Their vote will put them in a world of chit, but they also know you will live it with them and this makes them happy. Humans define their existence and use the most of their brain when suffering or hardship is on them. when nothing is challenging the human brain it becomes lazy and easily offended on anything because it's bored. Sense the opposing party is use to living in squalor\crime\drugs\hatred\, making you have a taste of it is their goal. Understand: these same people believe food magically shows up in their store to feed them. They throw child tantrums and riot or loot. All about selfish power. I had the exact same thing happen at my work. I had a really good team under me. When I retired, I told my boss "Do NOT put XXXX (person) in my position because my team will quit." Did he listen? No! Did they quit - yes (all found new positions elsewhere in the company, with two quitting). It's insane the amount of arrogance and disregard for those they serve when they know going in that certain actions will be detrimental, but they do them anyway.

If I’m a citizen of Goodman I’m cheering. A town barely over a thousand people don’t need a large police force. That’s just 9 rotten apples volunteering to leave. If they care about actually helping the community they wouldn’t quit, this is a power grab. And power hungry police are the rotten apples that have spoiled the force in general

I would like to know more about this police dept. Small town police dept. are notoriously corrupt. See Brookside Alabama. The fact that they all resigned in unison suggests they have a systemic problem and they don't want to held accountable for their actions. If that's the case again thanks for the one sided reporting then them quitting is blessing not a curse. They can rebuild from scratch.

One time I was driving through Goodman, Montana when I got pulled over by the police department there. The officer seemed polite at first but then instructed me to get out of my car. He started asking me about drugs or weapons and told me that "California plates only mean one thing". He then detained me and put me in the back of his car. Weird enough, then he climbed in the back with me and shut the door behind him. "Looks like we are locked in here together" he said coyly. He slid closer and put his hand up my shirt and started feeling my breast. "Found some contraband, you need to have a license to have diamond cutters this hard". I tried to pull away, but there was nowhere to go except deeper into his hot sweaty embrace. It was about 3 hours before one of his deputies found us, glistening with sweat, fully in the buff. We told him it was hot out so we had to strip down to stay cool, we were lucky he bought it. Anyways don't go through Goodman MO unless you are ready to have a wild ride.

The residents of Goodman got what they voted for. Their preferred candidate said about the Police "Your days are numbered," and "Just wait for the election results." Sounds like the new mayor needed better cops anyhow. Now he can build a new department from the ground up. If the whole department quit enmass because they didn't like the will of those they serve, I dare say this department did so for political reasons & I will bet yall my last $ they are a bunch of Trumper types. I could be wrong, but if the town elected this man, there was probably a good reason. So if any of them were to reapply, i would decline & hire officers who can serve the public without prejudice, or have an attitude about the political party of their mayor. We had a similar issue in a small town close to where I live just a few years ago. They had to start over with better quality people on their police department as well

I'd rather deal with a criminal than a cop. If a criminal attacks me, I can defend myself - he might make off with some of my property but then it's over. If a cop attacks you (mistaken identity, corruption or just random brutality because they dont' like my skin color) you can do NOTHING about it or else they will use force on you, possibly kill you and then, if you survive, they will ruin your life - possibly send you to prison.
