Sad part is lots of people still don’t understand his greatness. We all know MJ is great but he is not 6-0 in the finals without Scottie. He is the original Lebron essentially. Lebron better scorer with Scottie better defender but size wise and skill wise the same. I’m always hyping Scottie

PeterDan Mabalot I feel ya man. Just hearing him talk about the game that he loved with such passion, is very cathartic for me. Imagine these young players like Jayson Tatum, who Kobe did a “Detail” video analyzing Tatum’s game. Imagine what an absolute gift that is for Jayson to have this personalized lesson from his hero and idol and someone he strived to be like as a kid, who’s one of the greatest to ever play the game. It’s beautiful, really. All these players who have a Kobe detail video have this great gift that im sure they will all cherish and watch many times for the rest of their lives. If I was one of them and The Great Kobe Bryant made a video just about me and trying to teach me what he’s learned in his decades of accumulating vast knowledge on what it takes to be the absolute best. Paying it forward, teaching me (the next generation of NBA players) ways to better hone my craft. That’s something straight from Kobe they will have forever and it’s something beautiful that came from all this terrible tragedy.

It's been only two years since Kobe retired, yet some people here are already talking as if he doesn't know the league's style anymore. He spent two decades experiencing the changes in the game, and he's still in awe of Pippen's defense. Yes, players have to adjust to the rules, but what he's referring to here is the state of mind of a great defender.

@moety2
@moety2 3 жыл бұрын
The DPOY is decided by the media, when picking all team defense, that’s done by coaches. The years where people were getting DPOY, Scottie was getting the most votes for all team defense ahead of the DPOY. That tells you something. People look at numbers and stats. That’s fine but that doesn’t tell you everything. Plays disrupted, players making mistakes or bad decisions or taking bad shots because of the defender gets lost and forgotten. That’s the things the players and coaches know best.

@@venom-dq4rb Are you kidding me? Kawhi Leonard is pretty much the modern-day Scottie Pippen with that 7'3" wingspan and that defensive mind of his. He's a 2x defensive player of the year in an era where hand-checking is illegal. Just imagine how much better his defense would be if he's able to hand-check you with those big hands. And add that with his Jordanesque offense? You're kidding yourself if you don't think Kawhi would be an NBA player in the 90s.

Shaq and Kobe more dominant...from 88 to 98 post season only Jordan scored 30 or more 100 plus times compared to pippens 5..pips main job is to lock down so I give him a bit of a pass plus MJ was a Dogg on the offensive end, so I understand given Mike the ball and gtfo the way..but compared to Shaq and Kobe from 00 to 04 post season only Shaq scored 30 Or more 36 times to Kobe's 32....it was odd for Mike and pippen to both have monster offensive games... With Shaq and Kobe it was just a guessing game for when they would explode for 75 to 80 combined points...

True, Scottie didn't score that much but he ha made an impact almost everywhere, they were playing very modern basketball, being almost interchangeable (on defense, on offense of course MJ was a one-of-a-kind artist) positionless wings at around 6'6" - 6'8", playing all-world defense, bringing down the ball in turns, so versatile. In the second threepeat they also had Ron Harper who wasn't what he used to be but was yet another tall wing that could defend, they were very versatile on defense, kind of like what the Warriors are doing today with the so many interchangeable parts (Draymond, Iggy, Harrison Barnes/KD, Livingston). Shaq and Kobe sabotaged themselves their dominant team-up, they sure could have won more together. But 6 out of 8 for MJ and Scottie is legendary stuff.

Seeing all these comments saying in today's game the shooter's would've shot the 3 tells me how ignorant these people are. Kobe is talking about the mentality and defensive approach that Scottie is putting on the floor and towards players. Scottie is doing this in an Era different from today's basketball. Skills, techniques, and strategies can adjust as the game of basketball evolves, but a players mentality is what matters in order to become a great defense basketball player in any Era. With Scottie's mentality playing in today's Era he would have a different approach towards the 3 point shooters.

Sure... that's 3 possessions out of 80-100 that you defend... that's literally NOTHING... but the morons of the NBA don't look at who contests shots the best, they look at blocks... who's a better defender? Rudy Gobert or Al Horford? Horford never blocks but his defense is amazing at disrupting the offensive player... same thing... who's the better defender, Lebron James or Kobe Bryant? Not even close... Lebron has a lot of blocks and steals... but his defense is mediocre cause he lacks fundamental defensive awareness and footwork that Kobe had in bunches...
