I met Kobe at Disneyland back in 2008 when I was 13. He was carrying both Gianna and Natalia and saying hi and taking pictures with everyone that surrounded him. I do remember the stories of him walking the streets to help the homeless; paying for surgery for kids whose families couldn't afford it; sending youth to University. Helping the crew who swept the floors, and those who lost their jobs. Why he chose 81? You heard Phil. They needed it and he played within the system.

What an incredible ceremony... something people don't talk about as much as the game is the beauty of the camaraderie, togetherness and respect in the NBA. They come together as a community in hardship and it's palpable - especially the retired guys. I hope the younger guys will keep that special basketball bond going. I got to watch kobe play the hornets in the 05 06 season. It was the greatest thing I had ever seen. It was a no meaning game, the Lakers was going to the playoffs and the Hornets weren't, but kobe played like it was game 7 of the finals. I grew up with Jordan and kobe and to me Kobe will always be my Goat.

I would have preferred the fade away as the statue but I like this one for the fact that nobody has done what Kobe did since that 81 point game. He set the bar for the rest of the league. And while some got close, no one else has done it since so salute 🫡 💜
