Great series, Bird is still my favorite player of all time. As for playing through the pain, LeBron and most of the other players today couldn’t handle what he went through. Bird was the hardest working player ever and laid it all out for his team.

The best way to describe him was to hear Pat Riley's comment years ago. "If I needed someone to take a shot to win the game, I'd pick Michael Jordan. But if I needed someone to take a shot to save my life, I'll take Larry Bird!"...

The game where Bird and Dr J had a fight was unreal. There were 6 members of the NBA 75th Anniversary team on the floor - Bird, Dr J, Charles Barkley, Moses Malone, Robert Parrish and Kevin McHale.

Back in the day I remember one sportswriter describing Bird's foot work and hands as 'the feet of a tap dancer and the hands of a pickpocket'.

Larry got his work Ethic From his dad. I have a lot of Respect For Larry Bird. Larry is one of a kind. I don't watch NBA anymore. It changed so much and not for the better. It the pampering not team playing, ball hogs , relying on one player and some of the new rules I dont care for. It got soft more about looking good and not playing.

Thank you! This was a great vid. I don't think people talk enough about that '92 Celtics/Portland game Larry Bird played in a full body back brace and had a 49 point triple double. From that point afterward, no one in the NBA would have that high of a scoring triple double again until Russell Westbrook finally tied it with a 49 point triple double in 2015. That's Twenty Three Years. Not only that, in the entirety of the 80's no one achieved that high of a scoring triple double. (The closest was 2 guys who each managed a 47 point triple double. One of those guys was Michael Jordan and the other one was...Larry Bird.) You have to go all the way back to 1975 when Kareem scored a 50 point triple double. So, as far as I can tell, that 49 point triple double was the highest scoring triple double for about a 40 year span that included the biggest concentration of all time greats in NBA history and when it was a defensive driven era. And this was old, broke down, beaten up, broke back Larry Bird at the very end of his NBA career (he played only 9 regular season games after this) having to maneuver around the court in a hard shell back brace. With his body broken, he must have been playing purely on heart. And even his heart was broken by then, because Magic had been forced to retire and didn't play that season.

Walton and the other players were there for a fundraiser at Bird's college. Walton loves Bird,took over the fundraiser talking about how great Bird was.

MJ is the most explosive offensive player I've ever seen, but if there was an all-time draft and every player was 20 years old I'd take Larry Bird first over all because of everything he'd bring from the get go. If he'd of had a healthy or even somewhat healthy 16-17 year career he'd be in everybody's GOAT conversation.

I’ve had 5 fusions and no longer feel my legs but for Bird to play ball with back issues for years is amazing . There is no type of pain that wears you down like spinal degeneration . Try standing in burning water and feel nothing then without feet having radiating shots of pain go down both legs thru your groin every time you moved . Bird played with this for years !

As always your review of what we watched is always on the level. Really like that. Going back to the 89 game where he hit head hard on floor. Your right he did go back to work. But that was after he actually went to the locker room to get xrays and was told he couldn't play anymore due to the fractures suffered around his forehead and eye. He actually asked someone in the back to do something to distract the doctor so he could go back out to the floor. This is verified in Jackie's book about Bird and Magic.. That's where I learned of this.

Walton did Larry's Hall of Fame induction speech. He used to be a terrible stutterer.. Do you know how great Walton was? He was the 77' MVP, he was College Player of thew Year, Wona rirle in 77' with the Trailblazers, and had the greatest performance in NCAA championship history. I believe he had 44 points, missed ONE shot. Foot problems shortened his career and the Celtics resurrected it.

Thank you for talking to everyone about the difference in era's. I tell everyone about the equality of available resources in the 80s compared to the 2020s. I included statements about how the game and players today is almost as bad as the 70s. Bird, Magic, Stern and the CBS deal( I believe it's was CBS) saved basketball. Bird and Magic pushed each other to become better every yr. This helped advanced techniques. 3 pointers just started Birds rookie yr. ....if you wanna talk more about the 80s then hit me up. 👍

He thinks The Game faster than anyone. It does *not* matter "what he looks like". Look at his results. If Johnson is "Magic", Larry is "Mysterious". Watch his *feet*. His reflexes are hyper fast.
