Well thank you! My goal is to find older mining equipment and to educate people about it's history. Each machine has a story to tell.

I ran some old Koehrings in the 70's. The controls on the Koehring are; right hand lever for raising and lowering boom. Left lever is for swing. Right hand buttons are; upper, bucket in and lower, bucket out. Left hand buttons are; upper, dipper stick in and lower, dipper stick out. The pedals are for travelling forward and reverse. To cut the tracks there's a lever on the left panel, in front of the throttle lever.

Great machine these were some real earth movers in there day. To see some still working today is a testament to how well these machines were built. Great video look forward to seeing more.

I really like all your documentarys on these older excavators and even the newer ones. The problem is you just dont see alot of older ones anymore. It kinda sucks that there arnt alot of older machines like this anymore.

Nice video. My dad and grandfather and a C 366 that I would stand up on the side the cab and watch. I was running it at 7 by myself. That is a air control setup. Ours had 2 levers and 4 foot pedals.

Great video... Miss these old Koehrings... Kenmore Construction out of Akron, OH still runs a few. Shame the construction industry has undergone such a consolidation of late... Seems only Caterpillar, Komatsu, Link Belt, Liebherr and a few others are all taht remain. And to think the Government broke up a great company like Euclid/Terex. Tell me what the difference is today when Caterpillar dominates pretty much everything and bought everyone else.

Kenmore is taking on some big road paving jobs too. I remember when they were Ameritech Contractors back in the early 90s.

If I remember right the Koehring excavators (at least the older machines) had mechanical drive undercarriages adapted from the cranes with a hydraulic motor on the machinery deck driving the propel shaft down through the swing circle and then jaw clutches on each track for steering. I see this machine has drive chains so I was wondering if it's the same way or if there are hydraulic motors under the swing circle?

The engine would be a 12V71 Detroit, not an 8V92, the tank on the left hand side is the hydraulic tank Not the fuel tank, the fuel tank is on the rh side of the machine behind the cab. Also the counterweight is in 2 parts to make it easier to handle when breaking down for transport, the machine had a pair of hyd cylinders that pinned to the back to lift the C/W halves into place.

The Koehring excavators up until about the mid '80's when they switched over to IHI designed excavators all used air over hydraulic controls the air system also came with an air powered grease gun that had to sit on the cat walk because the machine got so hot the grease would turn to oil. I hope your able to get some video of this thing digging that would be fantastic to see.

Thanks! I remember seeing this machine running one day and never stopped on the job to film it. Biggest mistake I ever made! It was cut up a couple years later.

No I'm pretty sure this propel system is just like a crane. Drive motor to turn the sproket under the u/c which inturn, turns the chain to the sproket connected to the tracks to propel the machine

The 1066D was replaced by the 1066E and then by the 20,000 series 1066, During the 20,000 series, production moved from Milwaulkee WI to Waverly IA… The 1166 Never replaced the 1066, they were made at the same time, they were made on the same frame but the 1166 had a bit more HP and the stick function was boosted, the 1066 was not. Also the boom profile and stick were different on the 1166 compared to the 1066, the 1166 had a sharper arch to the boom.
