Honestly just feels like the MegaMan NT Warrior anime with Digimon.

A few things Kohdok; 1:Nate/Keita didn't want "something special to happen to him", he wanted to catch a cool/weird bug to complete his summer project and (somehow) impress Katie/Fumika so much she would be his his girlfriend. Haru was just bummed because he felt like a side character. 2: That general character design has been around for a while, just look at Max from the original Beyblade series. 3: Yo-kai are meant to cause problems, that's their thing. Appmon are just supposed to be apps that run their given programing. 4: Fighting the monster of the week to stop them from going berserk has always been a digimon thing ever since Adventure with the Black Gears, not just beating them up, beating some sense into them. And 5: It's not supposed to be a metaphor about over-reliance of technology, it's just a fun action series, and I think we need that every once in a blue friggin' moon.

Having watched the entire series, I can definitely say I loved it and consider it a great addition to the Digimon franchise.

Unlike the Yo-kai Watch, the Digimon Universe Appli Monsters battles are different. You can use your Appmon in battle. And Yo-kai Watch can not fuse in battle.

Now there’s a few….issues with this, before I get started I will admit there ARE some similarities between Appmon and YKW but, that’s what happens when you have a series in the same genre. 1) You are accusing the Applidrive of being like the Yo-Kai Watch. First of all it functions and looks a LOT like the Fusion loader in Fusion/Xross wars, which came out three years prior to YKW’s debut. I will admit the chip aspect of it is similar but other than that….the two have pretty distinctly different designs. 2) Nate doesn’t want something “special” to happen to him, he just wants to collect exciding bugs to try and impress Kate. Nate is also a blank slate in a similar way that Ash is a blank slate. Haru on the other hand HAS a personality he is shy, honest, thoughtful, considerate ect and he doesn’t wasn’t anything “exciding” to happen which is evidenced by the fact he literally hid under his blanket and then later refused to join Gatchmon until the end of the episode. 3)Yo-Kai naturally cause issues in the real world that’s their thing. With Appmon it’s more of an infection similar to how the Dark Gears and Dark Rings works both of which came out much before YKW’s time so if you’re going to harp on Appmon for “copying” that aspect form YKW you also have to harp on YKW for copying that aspect form the original Digimon series. 4) “Instead of coming up with an appropriate counter strategy you just beat them up” That’s not always the case, but again it’s how Digimon has ALWAYS done things so I don’t know why you’re making it seem like a big deal when Appmon does it as well. 5) “Could it be a statement on our over reliance on our technology” Yes it is, it has made it pretty clear especially in some of the more recent episodes. 6) I really don’t see how the new Appmon game looks like YKW. I mean they have a similar chibi 3D style but this would be far from the first Digimon 3D game, and since the game isn’t out yet (as far as I know) it is MUCH too early to judge it. While I can understand and respect it if you’re not the biggest fan of Appmon (as long as you actually gave it a chance) I don’t think you’re points comparing Yo-Kai Watch to Appmon hold that much water when you consider that a lot of them where elements Digimon had been using long before Yo-kai watch came around.

I have not even notice the similarity between the Yokai Watch and Applimon anime. I think I like Applimon because I missed the quiet/shy protagonist in these kind of series and I think the Applimon design are good but the first battle was really hard/dumb to watch. I haven’t watch beyond episode 1 but I trust it will become good because of its Digimon roots. Great video as always

I still plan on giving it a chance. I love digimon and always have, so I'm willing to give it a shot and I'll support it too. I don't want to see digimon fade away. It's always been in the shadows of others like it and I've always had the fear that the day will come when everyone forgets about it.

I loved this video! I couldn't stop laughing whenever you pointed out a similarity between it and Yo-Kai Watch. I had no idea Ash wasn't going to be 10 in the new Sun and Moon anime though, I've been avoiding trailers so I can be more surprised when it starts to air on television. So this Digimon series hasn't been dubbed yet right? Do you think it might be better once it gets a dub? I loved the original Digimon series when I was growing up, Tamers was definitely my favorite one. I thought Frontier was alright, and that the gimmick of turning into the Digimon was pretty cool, but after Tamers the series didn't have the same pull for me.

I know you only watched the very beginning of the season of appmon but please give it a chance, the story and characters become so much better then anything digimon has ever done

Big Digimon fan here. This may be surprising but I think Digimon Fusion Fighters is the best season of Digimon. The characters are all interesting and 3 dimensional and they have to use strategy and wits to overcome challenges instead of the boring bad digimon of the week trope. This is the perfect season for those who grew up on Digimon but want something a little more mature and complex.

Had to revisit this review because the next digimon is called ghost game lol! I’m excited for it, but Digimon creators must really like yokai watch or something

Can I be the first to say I don't like any of the designs of the appmon? The base forms are way too kiddish and the fusion forms are even worse with that horrible looking translucent CGI going on on them

If you actually look into the recent history of Pokemon's interactive toys, you'll see that the Z Ring and Z Crystals are much more of a successor to the Mega Ring/Mega Bangle and Mega Stones than any kind of copy of the Yo-kai Watch

this really does hit me as a big digimon fan with how much they are trying to copy yo-kai watch. I hope this doesn't hurt the franchise overall since previously before this it was going on pretty solidly with a good example being the latest digimon story:cyber sleuth with it having a story i feel is top notch though a little simple but still has nuance to it. Personally I feel that digimon has always been to me a solid cyberpunk franchise with the first two seasons being a nice start for it in it what digimon is and the third being what kind of dark corners it can turn to with it being a story of these people creating A.I. and the pros and cons of it by using digimon as a frame with the pro being guilmon and the con D-Reaper. Not saying for the franchise to do another season three but i just think that would be cool to have as a niche but of course this may just be my reaction to how it seems to be that the shows are starting to skew at a somewhat younger audience.

This review is a little bunk since it can't help remove itself from the blatant biases and nostalgia of the reviewer. The only digimon media you can draw reference to is tamers? While great, there are plenty of great things digimon has done since then. Appmon is written drastically different than other series, and that tone alone combined with digimons penchant for tech aesthetic is worth a watch. While not my favorite designs, they are atleast more interesting than what Xros wars offered. Digimon is often falsely accused as a rip off and add this to the pile of those claims.

As it's own shows worked but after watching it I compelty forgot about it until I saw video about this show. I haven't watched Yo-kai Watch I added it to watch list but not to sure what I found in wiki it is current place to start.

As being both a fan of Digimon and Yokai Watch, I feel like Appling Monsters could have done better and came up with a fresh new look. The App concept is good, but copying Yokai Watch really hinders the creativity for this Digimon series.

I've watched just 2 episodes and it seems you hate Yokai Watch. Or Appmon. Or Plagiarism. I dunno. LOL I hated Appmon when it was first announced, but the first episode won me over. Im actually not condeming you or even defending Appmon. I love your "Show" and Im definitely subscribing.

Why does Bandai feel the need to copy the same gimmick when they make the Yo-Kai Watch stuff in Japan? At least when Kmen Rider and Super Sentai share a similar technical base they alter how the gimmick looks.

Even though I really like Appmon as a concept and how they work differently than Digimon, I couldn't help myself from laughing at the Yo-kai Watch comparisons. I didn't even realize it even if it should have been obvious from the start that Bandai was trying way too hard to bank on another property's success. It makes me feel all the more bad about Appmon, not only because it failed and I actually liked the positives it had going for it, but because it was a lame try at cash grabbing. Oh well. At least Bandai seems to be focusing again on doing actual Digimon stuff.

well I been a fan since the Nickelodeon rerun of the first season since I'm a kid that's why I did not say fox kids but after that digimon fusion bad 02 good tamers amazing! frontier bad dear god! data squad ??

I just cannot get into the monster designs. The base forms just look very.... I don't know. But it feels like they lack the same charm of the Rookie digimon and early stage pokemon, while the later forms just... it just looks like a mess, the designs seem way too busy for me, I can't really pick out a theme. The monsters here just seem very.... divorced from any point of reference, I guess. Like I can tell what Agumon is. He is a tiny T-rex that's orange. Squirtle is a blue turtle. TOGEMON (yes, you have to say it all caps, shut up) is a cactus that boxes, Renamon is a SFW version of someone's Fur Affinity OC. But what are the Applimon? What things are they? What are they based on? What do I have as a reference point for familiarity? I can't find any and it makes it really hard for me to connect with them on a design level. Also, why does the toy have to *scream* everything? I'd never buy this for myself or my child because it's just loud obnoxious yelling. I mean even just for looking up your rankings it yells! I still remember Dexter's calm, composed, clipped voice back in the early Pokemon anime. He didn't need to scream to get your attention.

Digimon is a series of vertual pets and the anime promotes them.

0:52 Both of those things are wrong. Pokemon did in fact come first. And Digimon didn't come to the west to compete with pokemon. Digimon was made by the same creators as tamagochi. Since Tamagochi pets were becoming increasingly popular with girls, they decided to make a boys version, which was digimon.

I can definitely see the comparisons now and Its hard to ignore them. But I guess I enjoy Applimon anyways? haha. I watched the first episode a few times and I got used to it. But episode 2 and 3 seemed a lot better, not caught up atm. But yeah, Youkai Watch is still good too. Tho I won't deny, Tamers is really amazing. The design of the Digivice is something I really love. A dark series as well. Impmon is one of my fav characters.

Love the theme song. Largely indifferent to the designs. I'm just glad it was a spin-off and nonidicative of what Digimon would be from thereon out.

Eh, copying is a thing that happens. Sure kids are smart but they never really catch on to rip-offs or copy cats until they are older and the series they supported already made money off them. I imagine with those parallels with yo-kai watch it could get just as big off kids who don't realize what's happening.

After watching most of yokai watch and seeing most of appmon, I know that there are differences that are basically going to be series defining because it defines digimon.

Is it odd that I enjoy the Appli mon hopes than enjoy Yokai because I think that show is getting stupid in the idea that it is popular for being different.
