Very good job on this. You are smart to use flexible draining system instead of bottom draining because it will be more significant work like sloping the floor of the pool towards the drainage pipe. With a flexible drainage system, you wouldn't run into leakage within concealed piping (which is a big headache). Good job.

This is spectacular. The Eco painted liner looks brilliant. Have you found the waterfall sound to be over powering? I'm guessing it was the recording that made it stand out. I'm in planning stage of converting a failed inground liner pool to koi pond. You give me inspiration.

Awesome! I always had problems with my UV light. I think it throws off the balance in the pond. It gets rid of the green water, but the nutrients that are left behind, that are not used by the algae, becomes lethal for the fish. I finally got rid of my UV light, and all is well now, except the water is green. Great job, on your pond!
@davidguin50898 жыл бұрын
+Dennis Nakashima - If you don't want to use a UV light, get you a bog set up. The plants use the nutrients that the fish create, detoxifies the bad stuff like ammonia, nitrites and nitrates, and algae will not grow.

@ramroad200811 жыл бұрын
Curious about your overall cost. Hollow cinder block, motor, concrete footing, sealing, and epoxy. Gunite or a solid concrete wall may have come in cheaper. Also curious as to why there is no place for the fish to hide?

Phil, Beautiful! I could not see the bottom drain, what type did you use? Great use of space available. I had to design mine carefully as it sets on a steep slope. Good job!
@MrTonyPiscatelle Жыл бұрын
I didn't see a bottom recirculation suction either or a slope to a low point for it. One could only assume the bottom of this pond is going to be a mess in just a matter of days. But its a pretty pond

Very unfortunate that you didn't put in a bottom drain with the volume of water in your pond. Nice work on the masonry.
@westbccoast2 жыл бұрын
You don't really need a drain, it's more of a convenient thing, also if not done right could lead to integrity issues. You can drain a pond with a pump or utility pump within a reasonable amount of time.

I've learned alot over the past year on ponds. Especially koi ponds. I've built one so far and am going to be upgrading from a 800 gallon to somewhere in the neighborhood of 4000-5000 gallons. I've heard a bottom drain is a must. I didn't see you install one here. This was posted in 2012, so how are you removing the sludge and build up of fish waist that settles to the bottom? Since it's a flat bottom, do you use a pool vacuum or something?
@1Shignog8 жыл бұрын
+David Guin I was wondering some of the same stuff because what they did more or less was make a pool and stuck fish in it.

@abester266 My mentor said i would regret having bottom drains because of maintenance issues. He said that a quick vacuum job a couple times a year would be good enough to maintain a clean pond. After chasing underground leak problems and maintenance issues in an in ground spa years ago i was actually relieved not to have had to put pipe under the pond...

Too many fish in one go, your filter hasn't go all the right bacteria yet. Just a few fish will 'prime' the filter with enough bacteria to take the sudden increase when you add a load more later
