He's said before that he doesn't care if he lets himself down in a match, but he does care when other people (doubles partner, teammates, etc) are relying on him as well. This is why he gives a much more consistent effort in doubles and in team events like ATP Cup and Laver Cup

i love that they both tossed their rackets after match point. its just so hype. its a shame kyrgios started losing his mind during this match. I hope kokkinakis is enough of a bro to not be bothered by it at all. Kyrgios is normally so composed and considerate to his own team during team events, but those are all short term affairs. I'd love for him to team up more with kokkinakis for doubles, but I'm afraid the dynamic might end up actually stressing them out and then they end up not doing it anymore.

I always have mixed feelings about Kyrgios. But then he reminds me of McEnroe en when myself played tennis. Some are just very emotional. And sometimes that emotion gets in the way you behave and think. I was like Nick when I played tennis at national level. Always thinking everything is personal. Throwing racket etc...But when that emotion does not get in the way, you have a beast in front of you. I think doubles do good for Nick, because Kokkinakis provides that balance. Perhaps Nick is better off playing doubles from now on.

I think Kygrios has finally found a game that suits his reflexes, shot-making ability, and frankly, attention span, and where his deficits in sustained defense, point construction and the mental and physical stamina to stay in long points without hitting tweeners and other trick shots are made up for by the presence of a partner. Play doubles, man, and enjoy life!

Kyrgios looks stupid every time he tries to do unnecessary tweeners and then lose the point. seriously, it was his fault they lost the point at 4:01. did an unnecessary shot that invited the double poach which lost the team the point. even in his grand slam match, he was still doing stupid shots like that as if it was an exhibition match. he is no doubt the biggest waste of talent in the history of tennis. respect for Kokkinakis for putting up with his shit throughout the tournament

Kyrgios knows he isn’t going to win a singles slam. Too many dedicated, professional tennis players that will hand him losses. But he’s trying to find his own niche / market of the not so serious tennis fans, the beer chugging bros and the less sophisticated ones. I think he should stay in this lane. He can continue to provide some drama and stay in the limelight.
