He practiced it on his own. On the show Starking back way back there were an opera group competing and he told the host I can sing like them and he said show us, the opera group singers were impressed, of course he said he wasn't classical traine, it was something he just picked up. That was years before this concert

Omg ! Omg !! I absolutely love this. In the 5 years I have been watching kpop reactions, I have never seen anyone react to this! I cry every time I listen to this ! And he is so beautiful, too. I feel like this is his masterpiece !

What I know is that he had 3 months training for the one he did in 2011: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bMxgYN13z7CcdIk.html And he did a bit in a variety show while sitting down in 2013 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nbeCqrViqtjdmJs.html The one you guys reacted to is from 2016. So I do believe he kept practicing and had training to do this ONE song because most classical singer that I heard talking about this cover just said that he just shouldn't do it. That "In classical singing, one must sing with a low larynx position, an open throat, a relaxed tongue and for males a much more chest dominant usage of the muscles in the vocal cords while keeping a much more developed expansion of the intercostal muscles and the diaphragm. Onew does not have that, so he ends up pushing his larynx down with his tongue, tightening his throat and pulling chest voice up with a lot of tension and so in Nessum Dorma he sounds uncharacteristically throaty and pushed throughout." So... I don't know how trained he is in classical singing. But to me, if pop opera is a thing, he aced it. Sorry for any mistakes, english is not my first language.

I have heard he is classically trained, then had someone get snippy and say no, he just wanted to sing this. I am more inclined to believe he is trained. You don’t sing this piece, with this precision, just to try it.
