Kokomo Opalescent glass marbles are believed to be produced between 1939 to about 1943 in Kokomo, Indiana at the Kokomo Opalescent Glass Company which is still in operation today.
Their marble rolling machine was purchased, and later sold back to the Peltier Glass Company in 1939. Many of the raw materials that they used to produce the marbles were shared by Peltier as well. The marble-making venture was the company’s attempt to put their waste glass from their stained sheet glass products to good use. Kokomo abandoned the marble making production some time before World War II, as they may have had some difficulty with either the production, or sales of the marbles. Thie short time frame of thier production, and small distribution makes their marbles quite rare to find, highly collectable and sometimes very pricey in the marbles market . The prices on Kokomo marbles is still volatile today and will depend on the condition and attractiveness of each particular piece.
In this Part 2 upload, we spend day 1 and 3 of our Kokomo tour viewing the marbles collection of “Shades Of Glass” author and Kokomo native Ken Humphrey. We inspect, identify and discuss the collectable marbles they produced from examples that were either dug from the grounds, or obtained from ex-employees and others who were linked to, or inherited their marbles. Ken has some insightful stories to share from his Kokomo collection.
We also view the David Tamulevich Kokomo collection, which was inherited from glass marbles book author “Greenberg’s Guide To Marbles” Dennis Webb years ago. We focus on some of the more recognizable Kokomo marble models here and look at many of the more obscure examples with crisp, clean photos.
Included in this upload are film clips of the factory grounds, and some of the stained glass windows at Kokomo Opalescent Glass thanks to our Kokomo tour guide Kathy. A big thank you to Ken, David and Kathy for sharing their time and expertise with us !
We will also look at their 1940’s style marbles packaging products, sales boxes and net bags… and meet the terrible Kokomantis ! 🟢
There will be an upcoming full Kokomo Opalescent Glass Factory tour with Ken & Kathy.
Thank you for watching and please subscribe for future upcoming content!

I live about 20 minutes from Kokomo.. I knew about the stained glass factory, but I didn't know they used to make marbles also.. When I was a kid, my grandad had a five gallon bucket full of marbles that we used as slingshot ammunition.. After watching both of your videos about the Kokomo marbles.. I'm pretty sure my brother and I shot an entire five gallon bucket of Kokomo marbles into a corn field behind my grandparents house..

@stephenbahrmarbles I've been researching the Kokomo marbles more since watching your videos last night.. I'm confident that every marble in that bucket came from the KOG factory.. That robin egg blue color, the yellow color, and the bright red color are seared into my memory from childhood.. I've never seen anything even remotely close to those colors anywhere else.. The property the house was on is still in the family.. We no longer own the field, but I know who does, and I can probably get permission to dig around a little bit.. Do you think the marbles could have survived 30+ years of plowing and discing? It would have been mid 80s thru the early 90s when the majority of them where shot.. I can't believe what some of them are selling for on Ebay.. There had to be thousands of marbles in that bucket..

I was just sorting thru a batch of marbles and came across one with that bright lipstick red, some blue threads on a gray base. It glows lime green under UV. I think I have a Kokomo. Fabulous video Stephen. You do such amazing work. You are a legendary marble historian. I love your sense of humor.

@@stephenbahrmarbles Sure enough, one day in 1980, while huffing ladles full of molten glass, he got a call on the payphone in the factory" Jeff! it's for YOU!", It was my mom giving birth to me. Thank You for putting that video together. Your video showing the inside brought back 40+ year old memories like it was yesterday - the heat, the smells I experienced as a kid - and the large pile of wonderfully colored glass in the bin out the front door - I'd dig through there and sometimes find a cobalt blue piece. I've heard that some stained glass I see in the Cathedrals here in France was produced at KOG, if anyone knows more - please let me know!

I think I have a great, unpublished collection of some marbles you might want to look at. After watching this video. I’m a longtime introverted collector of vintage anything’s. Just discovering the marble community on KZfaq as I stopped collecting just as I got started, met Chuck from Chucks Marbles in Pasadena at his shop, then a few flea market finds, and a recent estate auction find… 1k marbles maybe. Fun for a hardcore collector to peruse!? Know anyone in Southern Michigan/Northern Ohio, who wants to follow a video of content like this?

What was the purpose of making so many marbles and different colors
@stephenbahrmarbles
@stephenbahrmarbles Жыл бұрын
Kokomo wanted to make use of thier extra colorful stained glass scrap glass, so they tried marbles for a few years. Allegedly the marbles didn’t sell well so they stopped producing them.

Can anyone tell me what all marble companies produced the 1" deep dark translucent red (see thru) shooter marbles? They are highly florescent and have really cool patterns that can only be seen under a black light.... They look like a red clearie until that black light comes on, strong lines and patterns.... Glow orange under the black light. The cut lines look like cac or master with the 2 flat seams.
@stephenbahrmarbles

CAC didn’t make marbles that big, I’m not sure if that description can be attributed to one specific manufacturer /company.

No sir marble buyer, they don’t all have an opalescent glow. That is not a blanket statement that I made, or would make. Yes both Pelt, Koko and many others has opalescent glass. Yes Koko certainly used a lot of it for their base glass . Thank you for watching and asking.
