The MOD Police Act 1987 governs their conduct especially s2. As extended by the 2001 anti terrorist Act they do have wide ranging powers, but those powers ARE restricted in terms of location, being asked to help by a Constable on the ground or a Ch Constable operationally. They can act outside of their land but only on matters under their remit, so if you ran away from their base they could run after you. BUT they may assume “spontaneous” police powers if they REASONABLY suspect a crime has been committed. THAT is why I believe they act in a more responsible way. If they get it wrong they ARE NOT policemen! If a policeman gets it wrong he’ll claim he was just doing his job.

Yet filmimg outside a police station triiggers the Terrorism Act. I my many dealings with the police, I've always found the MOD police to be more professional when dealing with the public.
