Mumbai and Kolkata both are our cities, Indian cities and are good. I have worked both in Mumbai and in Kolkata. But due to immense commercialization Mumbai has lost its identity as a Marathi city. I worked there in 20 th century with middle class people who thinks that Kolkata is better because it is less commercialized. In Kolkata human values are more. Bengal is a agriculture based state. Further CPM destroyed Bengal industries by sponsored strikes, Bandhs, etc for their own interest. So these cannot be judged by physical figures. I think Pune is far better than Mumbai.

If you want to know about education system of Kolkata then you should ask the highly talented students of government colleges. Education is in the veins of Kolkata. Government colleges offer far more good quality education than infrastructure and facilities. And yeah Bengalis prefer education more as well as singing, theatre and paintings.

Another point i think everyone missed..it is correct that parents are pressurizing to concentrate on studies.But in bengal each and every middle class child has to learn music,dance,recitation,painting.theater any one of these cultural activities during growing up days.The learning process must be traditional...like classical music,dance etc... I'm from northeast India and I prefer Mumbai over Kolkata as I feel it has more open minded people as I'm a very flamboyant gay boy 😂 Kolkata I think it's not too cosmopolitan like Mumbai or Delhi. The advantage over Mumbai is that the rent there is very very affordable and I think public transport is comparable to Mumbai (I've only visited the city not stayed for long). Negative: People I think are bit conservative and from people I've heard they say Kolkata landlords are crooks.

apart from all options that u covered education/literature/sweets/helpful..... there is one thing that should mentioned is cheapness of roadside food... those people who are lower middleclass.. worked all day long..wo bhi 10rs mein apna pet bohot e ache se var sakta hain.. 4 kachori aur alu k sabji apko 12/10 rs mein mil sakte hain.. u can have ur enough dinner & lunch within 30 rs.. can u imagine.. where in other state vai 50rs mein sirf nasta hi ho sakta hain... most important matter is fooding

First thanks for uttering 'Calcutta' instead of ugly 'Kolkata'.Sounds so good. I dont think park street is the best place to ask people about Calcutta .. because a lot of those people are not Bengalis to begin with and different parts of Calcutta have different mindset. It baffled me to hear education is not good..because Bengal as well as Calcutta has some of the most high class Government schools , which are Bengali medium. The problem happens when some middle class people chose to go to low quality English medium schools , as we could see , those girls talking about English education could not even talk in correct English. Hair School,Bethune School , Hindu school are some of the prestigious schools , you cant find any other state where govt education is so cheap and good quality. Its literally the backbone.
