A shrine is place held by groups of believers to be holy or sacred. It is a place dedicated to a specific deity, hero, saint or a figure of awe and respect; places at which such people are venerated or worshipped. The Kenya Komarock shrine is the main shrine for Catholics in Kenya, a shrine that has grown to become a national tourist site, attracting many people even non-Catholics.
Thousands of Catholic Church faithful converged at the Komarock Hill for the annual pilgrimage program, an event that was led by Machakos Bishop Norman King’oo Wambua.

The famous Komarock, is considered a shrine by many.

Pasted in extreme beauty with a serene surrounding, it’s superior imposing rocky houses and excellent location makes it stand out in this neighborhood. Komarock Shrine is a marvelous piece of art, nature’s gift to the locals. The shrine has no fence, guardrails or blockades, making it accessible to all and sundry. The rocks have no writings, as you may find in other places. One is allowed to take as many pictures as one can without limitations.
Thousands of catholic faithful from Machakos, Makueni and Kitui counties gather at Komarock shrine for the annual pilgrimage. The shrine at Komarock near Tala in the Catholic diocese of Machakos was built to foster devotion to Our Lady.
Though some claim to have seen Our Lady there no proof has yet been provided. Komarock Shrine was chosen as a shrine because it is an isolated place, where you can spend time in prayer without being disturbed by the hustle and noise of the world. The hill is said to be a place of prayer for anyone who wants to spend some time alone with God.
