As a kid back in the late 50's , early 60's I had one like this one. It was identical except mine was made from canvas. I got from Herter's World Wide Outfitters , today a part of Bass Pro. A buddy and I were camping on the St Johns River ( USA , Florida ) when a category 1 Hurricane hit us. We road out the storm ( 3 days ) in that tent and then continued our camping trip after the storm left.

It is what it is, a cheap tent and I love it! I'd drop the poles for something lighter or rig it up to a ridge line instead. 👍

Got to ensure there is something to put the line up with though. You could at least find some sticks that the ridgeline can tie too and then lead down to the ground. But if its raining (high potential in uk summer lol), id rather have assurance that i can have a quick wasy setup with the original poles. Those poles are decenly light enough anyway.

Hi EW. You can use rubber plumbing washers on the spikes. You also used to be able to buy plastic pole caps to go on the spikes and plastic feet to go under the bottom of the poles to spread the weight out better on the floor. This tent takes me back to my first tent as a kid. Thanks for another excellent video.

Same as my first one as a kid only not canvass - and probably quarter of the weight, especially wet! Good camo' - for the top we used to use old cotton reels with a plastic bag over and taped down. That's worth £30 though. With a spray of fabric waterproofing, might be okay.

I had a tent very similar to that one when I was a kid back in the 1980's. It was fun back then, but I didn't expect much more than rain resistance back then. Now I use an ultra light bivy and a poncho as a rain fly or a hammock with a rain fly. I still don't expect much more than rain resistance, but the modern system weighs one third to one fourth as much.

Thanks for the review. Use Trekking Poles upside-down instead and put the spike cover on the outside. It'll make an inexpensive 'hide' for bird watching and stuff (just as long as the floor's not too crinkly). 1500HH isn't much, but Fabsil will up it's water repellency quite a bit. its obviously not a Hilleberg, but if it gets someone out on a (fairweather) adventure, then why not?

The screw-on a Lucozade lid is 1 1/2" in diameter (39mm) and has a 'pip' in the centre. Drill a hole in two tops equal to the uprights diameter so they are a 'push fit' and you have two umbrellas to shed the water away. Just found your videos, I've subscribed and hit the bell, keep up the good work.

Dan I used a tent like that for a few years. Do yourself a favor and pull a paracord line inside the tent across the ridge line between the two vertical poles. It helps massively with the roof flapping about and gives you somewhere to hang your lamp at night or dry your socks. I have never owned that particular make or model of tent but I grew to like my version of it quite a lot. You are quite correct about the pegs. Upgrade at least the two that hold the poles to the ridge line. The wind will have them out in no time. But once you have done that it should stand up to reasonably high winds. I will be keeping my eye on you using that tent. For 30 quid it looks like it could be a good summer tent. It is not like you will be taking up into alpine mountains is it. I should think it is a massive step up from a tarp and bivi bag. My DD 3x3 tarp weighs in at more than half that tent and with the bivi bag I bet it comes close to being the same weight. Good trade for a summer camp. I just got myself the Dutch Army tent to play with. So it will be interesting to see who's tent leaks first. 🤣

My pal and I used a ridge tent a lot in the seventies, including walking the Pennine Way in '73. A simple piece of a plastic bag and two rubber bands keeps the rain from running down the poles. You also need to put a bottle top under the poles to protect the groundsheet.

Make a paracord bung for the pole gaps, lash a few turns of it around the pole and melt gently with a soldering iron to form a plug that seats into the grommet, do one for each pole and after use just store them on its pole.

Just bought one and will proof and clear mastic the seams for use on wet and summer moorland as a tick free zone, for winter or storm hill conditions would take an extra groundsheet, and sling a basha over it. So looking forward to using it. Great close up inspection, thank you so much. Harry. Flying haggis films.

Great video as usual. That tent though... its like someone looked at the French Army F2 and said how can we make it worse? Pole tops need dollies (wooden tops that sit over the spike and deflect rain) Why they didn't keep the flaps for the side vents is puzzling as well.. The zip is not covered so will seep water but at least its a separate piece to the bug net. I'll be interested to see how it fairs in a rain test though. If it can put up with a summer shower level of rain, not a bad buy at all.

To be fair that is a pretty good play tent for kids. A rubber washer would stop water getting in the pole holes but not sure I'd want kids sleeping in it out in the rain even in summer.

Price must of gone up since re named as a teen tent, but i found a unused one on fb for fiver, think its a lot better than a cheap dome tent, you at least get a water proof rating and seems well made tho,

Been looking at this for a couple of weeks, like the idea of it as a tarp with added bug protection. Check out the channel Andy's East Coast (nowt to do with me btw) where he shows how to improve the waterproofing, then tests it with a hose

Always enjoy your reviews I have a question for you , if someone is on a low budget do you think it's better to buy a better quality looked after Pre Owned Tent rather than a New one ? Best regards Shaun
