A trip of a lifetime leaving sailing all the way from Komodo (Labuan Bajo) to Raja Ampat (Sorong) - the whole trip took 19 days and we visited some incredible places along the way. Some absolute tiny remote islands in the middle of the Banda Sea.
This trip known as the "Banda crossing" goes along a chain of islands called the "forgotten islands" - After leaving Labuan Bajo we head into the Komodo National Park and then sail across the north coast of Flores where we dive some locations near maumere and Babi island.
Then we sail to Komba. Which is an active volcano in the middle of the Flores sea.
The very next day we wake up in Alor which has amazing diving with deep, open ocean currents flowing through the straights. It makes this place abundant with marine life and a photographers dream with all the wicker fishing baskets.
Also in Alor we visit a traditional local tribe and village where they perform an ritual dance around a sacred stone.
After this we sail across what’s known as the forgotten islands . A chain stretching across the Banda sea, from Wetar to Serua there are many islands with no trace of civilisation. The diving was also great and we saw whales breaching in the distance.
We dived at karang nil desperandum but failed to see any schooling hammerheads.
Then we move to Gili Manuk which is a tiny island covered in sea birds and below the water are 1000s of sea snakes and sea crates patrolling the waters. It really is not for faint hearted! Pretty much impossible not to see any sea snakes on each dive.
After this we head to Banda Niera. Also known as the spice islands, where for hundreds of years the European colonial superpowers were fighting over control of these little islands to control the spices. Namely nutmeg, which was worth more than gold!
The diving is also spectacular here.

Wonderful footage. I did the exact same trip on the Arenui last Oct. 2023. You took me back 😎🙏🏻Great videos and editing, beautifully done. Nice capture of the ribbon eel eating and you saw a thresher and hammerhead..lucky you 👏🏻👏🏻😎 I am going to subscribe to see where your travels take you. You are in one of the most interesting places, one I have been traveling in for 15 years now, but you have a fresh and much younger eye. Your photography skills are fabulous!

Hi. Great content. I am enjoying your channel and travels. It’s been a desire big mine to visit the islands of Indonesia. I am a bit of a geography geek and botany geek so this slice of our planet is incredible. Was travel easy? I suppose bits not as trouble free as maybe heading to Paris or skiing bon New England. I suppose you have several tips for a person who wants to travel to the islands. It seems not much land based travels. All scuba. Which is great. But it seems that the locals cater to scuba. Stone fish video is very cool. The home stays. Would you recommend these. Are they clean. Friendly? What do you do for food while at the home stays? Are you fed? Transportation. I suppose this is the part of Indonesia that you need to take with a grain of salt. I suppose relying bon the locals to shuttle you around might be a bit sketchy?? Am I wrong? You have a great skill for underwater photography. Great stuff!! Would love to hear you talk about the actual travel process. And the truth. Is it easy peeasy?

Definitely a trip of a lifetime. Could you recommend a company that chartes this exact trip? I read somewhere in the comments that the company you did it with is no longer advertising it? We would need to save for years but 20 days alone on the Banda sea is definitely worth it.
@IndoWild
@IndoWild Жыл бұрын
Hi. At the minute there is nobody doing this Komodo to Raja Ampat trip because it’s just so long. It’s around 3 weeks. Most will do the Banda crossing taking maximum 12 days, so you could do 2 trips on 2 boats to get the same trip. If you actually want to do the same trip that is in the video. I might be able to organise it, 2024. Please can you send me a message? If it’s the whole charter then it makes it easier, I can find a boat.
