But.... what's with the lack of empathy? The people want the Cops to break down on the homeless, but they're only homeless and broke because of the lack of social programs. Why is this program so weird to me as a Swede? It basically thinks that "locking people up" will solve the problems, but it's not like that in real life. All of homelessness, addiction and criminality is basically a result of the systems in place in the city. No help for homelessness causes more homelessness. No economical aid for people struggling = more homelessness etc. etc. Why is this program pretending like it's the problem of the justice system?

@@Ree1981 How does Seattle handle the problem? Handing out needles. You are right, there are no programs to help the homeless in Seattle. You can't help someone who doesn't want to be helped. If you want to help the homeless man in Seattle first give him a fishing pole and a free fishing license. That's a start. I don't think the people in Seattle who are paying enormous tax on their highly inflated property, and paying on every purchase for someone to "earn" $15 an hour while possessing no "skills", can bear the added expense of programs on top of the huge incentives given to affiliates of the politicians in power (political favors).

@OneVeryCleverGirl Жыл бұрын
@@troutfitter547 they won’t. And that BS is spreading - just look at Chicago a couple of weeks ago. The only thing that the overcorrection regarding police brutality has accomplished is to make every crime a possible death sentence. If law enforcement isn’t allowed to do their job, citizens will and they aren’t required to use any escalation of force. In my state, a person is justified in using or threatening to use deadly force if he or she reasonably believes that using or threatening to use such force is necessary to prevent imminent death or great bodily harm to himself or herself or another or to prevent the imminent commission of a forcible felony. Great bodily harm is defined as any harm more severe than minor or slight harm and could include wounds that bleed profusely or require stitches, broken bones, and injuries requiring surgery. For example, bruises generally won’t fall under this but shove someone down causing them to hit their head or chase someone with an axe or knife or box cutter would likely meet the elements. A forcible felony includes treason; murder; manslaughter; sexual battery; carjacking; home-invasion robbery; robbery; burglary; arson; kidnapping; aggravated assault; aggravated battery; aggravated stalking; aircraft piracy; unlawful throwing, placing, or discharging of a destructive device or bomb; and any other felony which involves the use or threat of physical force or violence against any individual. All that progressive policing has accomplished is to force people to defend themselves and they will do that with lethal force.

Exactly. And they wonder why we have a homeless problem even when 20 minutes north of Seattle in Everett they want over $1,000 for a one bedroom or higher. Luv2Dnce4 I was born and raised in Everett and yes, you’re right. Downtown Everett is pretty ugly. The most ugly part. Broadway is filled with homeless people on every street corner and half the city is just car sales lots. The entire city is propped up by Boeing and the Navy. I’d hate to see what happens to it if Boeing ever closes down the plant and the Navy moved elsewhere. I don’t think Everett proper would survive. You should see it right now, useless construction on Broadway right now that’s been going on for months and a few burned out buildings that’ve been “remodeling” for close to a year. It’s a shame that Marysville is becoming just as bad as Everett and I can only assume Stanwood will follow the same route.
@jasoninthehood97265 жыл бұрын
Luv2Dnce4 Also, everyone complains about junkies but I hardly ever see people talk about all the alcoholics. Every gas station in down town Everett you have homeless people waiting at 6AM waiting just for the stores to open the freezers for the alcohol. I don’t know why anyone ever brings this up, as it’s also part of the problem but I’m not saying I have the solution to it either. Go to the Jacksons on Pacific Avenue near the freeway exit and I guarantee every morning you’ll find a homeless person there waiting to buy their alcohol.

I wish that people would take this opportunity to comprehend how fundamentally broken the country has become within the last two generations. At first I was wondering if the angry people in the townhall were upset about the initiative to "defund the police"... until I realized this was released *3 months* before the death of George Floyd. This was also before the pandemic, and while Trump was in office. So many bipartisan issues that people blame the country's problems on were not factors in this. The city did not decline because of economic fallout after a mismangaged pandemic, and it also did not improve when Biden came into office. This is neither a republican nor a democratic issue, it's a citizen vs politician issue period. Only when people come to realize this and band together as they did in the townhall to demand answers and change will we see true progress in society, as more than anything they desire for people to remain angry and distracted, quabbling about trivial culture war issues while they rake in money. The people of this country must wake up and realize that neither political party has their interests at heart, and their voting allegiance will not make an impact. They must come together and demand change from these corrupt crooks.

One thing to note is that putting homeless people and drug addicts in prison doesn't solve the problem. It costs about $30,000 to take care of one prisoner per year and about $7000 to take care of one homeless person per year in homeless shelter. Homelessness and drug addiction should be handled by the federal government with delegation to state, county and city authorities. That way if someone is deemed to be drug addict or homeless, they can go into a recovery program anywhere in the states. This will remove pressure from cities like Seattle.

She chose to shut down her entire State's economy for 3 months, including the rural areas that had almost ZERO cases of Covid-19. NOW, she is blaming the FEDERAL Government for not funding her budget shortfalls, as though money appears through "magic". She CHOSE to cut her hand off, and is now screaming "I've only got one hand!" This is how Democrats think! In truth, this is how they ACT, without actual thinking. And dullards just keep voting for them, over and over again. It's like drinking more poison, hoping the new poison will kill the old poison. You deserve what you get! But Seattle, San Fran and other major cities are fooling themselves to think that there is a single, simple solution to the problem.

When this came out I was in a master of social work program and I heard it was biased against the unhoused. After watching it just now, 5 years later, I think it is the opposite actually. I am an ex-drug addict and the ONLY reason I made it out and on to get my MSW and now in private practice is because I was arrested in 2003 and the judge required that I get a drug assessment. Had I not been arrested, had the judge not looked beyond the standard 8 hour class for misdemeanor marijuana possession, had the system not worked, I would not be where I am today. What is going on in our city is actually cruel to the unhoused, addicted, those who struggle with mental health. Gabor Mate has written and spoken about the links between childhood trauma and addiction, yes drugs are a major factor, but it's what is driving the behavior. We CAN do what Rhode Island does and have unhoused rehabilitation just like drug rehabilitation centers. Eric Johnson deserves a lot of credit for this. I didn't see it at the time and wish I had. Editing to add that the majority of chronically unhoused were previously in the foster system, meaning they have no family and a traumatic childhood, and veterans. We can and should do better

Interesting documentary. The global movement away from institutionalisation pushed people at risk of mental health and addiction disorders out into the community without adequate supports in place. The solution presented is returning to Institutional models. I know that Britain continues to have rehab facilities where addicts and mental health patients can recover before a structured return to life in the community. As long as these places are run properly where abuse isn’t able to go hidden then I think this is a good solution for many.

I'll explain: Step 1: convince the populace that voting for libtards is good Step 2: let the libtards take over the city Step 3: libtards take away the authority of cops Step 4: take over the justice system so the criminals are always let go Step 5: once the criminal knows both the police and justice system are toothless he is free to do what he wants Remember, it all began from step 1, once it's done, all the subsequent steps will follow automatically.

Hey, Im a homeless guy. Ill tell you exactly why people leave shelters: they cant take being degraded by the staff. I live in one and i can barely hold it together. I can assure you, doing drugs in here isnt an issue so long as you pay your rent and the manager and his inner circle get their nazi salutes. Lots of the staff are nice, but a lot get into the business for a power trip and either dont know or dont care that theyre treating their fellow humans as garbage. Long term id like to work in a homeless shelter. Most of the staff dont know what its like, but i do. And no, im not injecting drugs and leaving the needles in parks or stealing stuff. That sort of behavior is out of order. But i dont see whats wrong with me smoking some marijuana while i go for a walk. I dont bother anyone and i dont even like to drop cigarette ends. They go in my pocket. I respect nature. I am on ritalin, which helps a lot, but at the end of the day, its hard living in a place where you have no autonomy and you dont know when someone will suddenly shout at you, ask you questions and be unsatisfied with the answers etc. I am not addicted to hard drugs, but that doesnt make me any better than someone who is, so long as they try to be a good person. I found this documentary pretty degrading. Most homeless people i know are not like this. I wouldnt associate with them if they were. I have tried to get a job and i cant. The job center said i "wasnt ready" because i self harm. I wouldnt do that if i could feel safe, which isnt an option when your life is controlled by people you dont trust, with good reason.
