Today on Music Gear Mondays we look at The Komplete Kontrol Series S49 one year + later. Long story short I still use this Keyboard almost every day and it's been very reliable and fun to use. Below are a few resources if you own a Komplete Kontrol or are looking for more information.

Thank you for this. I was trying to decide if I needed the s61 or if the s49 would be enough for me with the MK3 and ultimate bundle and Logic. It looks like s49 will be plenty since my native music language is guitar, the scale lights. Has me sold. Im 46 man Im getting too old to be a one man band with drummkits amps mics stands and cables all over. I found a launch pad with logic and was impressed added a micro freak, now im hooked. Now im upgrading and thats it.. Its not cheap but Im a musician, Im used to being a broke ass lol.. MK3 S49 Ultimate bundle Mocrofreak for some analog Logic. My guitars and basses and RE20 and I think Im good to go.. Im usually a blues player but. I have found a way to play all the other music I appreciate too. I just wish I had it 25yrs ago. Seriously thank you dude.

Your setup sounds awesome! Yeah the 49key is pretty great it fits in most studio desks but is built super tough. I feel you on the cables and studio full of gear sometimes its too much lol I am buying allot more VSTs nowadays lol Thanks for watching please keep us posted on your music gear journeys!

Thank you very much for this feedback for the S49! I'm planning to switch my old S25 to a Native Instruments Komplete Kontrol S49 MK2 and I have an unused Mission Engineering EP25-Pro Aero GC. The EP25-Pro Aero is more a guitar FX expression pedal. I wonder if it will work?

Hey do i sample from my iPhone & should I buy the mpc one are the machine plus to go with my keyboard

I did a video about both the mpc and the MASCHINE I feel like both hate they’re own quirks but best of both sampler and keys might be the mpckey. Rolling samples from your phone to an mpc or machine is pretty intuitive these days. I would definitely try before you buy if your local music store has a 14day return policy.

My only issue with these keyboards is the lack of dials and sliders that you really want for automation with plugins. But other than that, they are great.

Yeah, more third-party vst support would be great. You would think a firmware update would have been out by now.

What OS you runnin? I need to get an older Mac book cuz the M1 chip not compatible with a lot of software.

I am running an M1 Mac Mini 16 GB in the Studio Ableton Live 11 + Adobe Suite seems to be running those great. My everyday is a MBP 16" i9 it runs great but they are known to have overclocking issues so the fans go crazy but I would recommend an M1 if you're using Ableton, Logic Pro, Serato, Arturia there are more programs that will be compatible soon so also if you're going to be buying for the future and you are looking into the mac ecosystem. There are def cheaper PC options out there as well. Might be a great topic for one of the next MGM's. Let me know you can shoot me a DM on instagram.com/CRLCRRLL I'd love to help!

@Robert Wilson Yeah I've been waiting for M1 Updates from NI most other companies are rolling them out now. Hopefully will see a few more firmware updates addressing that.

@@AI-Consultant @MusicGearMondays. Sorry to chip in but not yet, however not sure if you know but if you run Logic in Rosetta mode the transport buttons work. It’s a pain to have to do that but a fix u til NI release M1 updates.

great video... do you think 49 keys are enough if you see 1 year later ?? or do you need the 61 keys.. Im not sture wich do choose (Im making electro pop Music) many thanks for you thanks

Carlos Thanks for watching! I feel like the 61 is plenty range for me but if you are a keyboard player who needs more octaves and doesn't really like to use the transpose buttons or maybe it's a keyboard you plan to just keep in the studio the 88 might be worth looking into.

Would be so awesome for the old and fairly stupid as I am, to have a more basic introduction to the keyboard. Let's say one that starts with plugging it in and turning it on. Then goes through what everything is and does. You fly through things at the speed of youth. We oldies tend to get left behind. No Oldie Left Behind NOLB. Please? Take NOTHING for granted with our sort. We flounder at words like DAW. When you turn knobs around, it's impossible for my ancient brain to follow. I have the feeling I'm not alone.

How do you set this kontrol s49 up with logic pro x 10.6 properly to.use all functions? Just got mine and trying to set up?

Hi, great video. I have managed to get a great buy second hand and have a question on the pitch wheel, do both wheels spring return to 0 position?

Only the Pitch wheel on the left returns to zero the mod wheel on the right stay at the selected position of your choosing.

It works dope if you have maschine! The screens look just like they do on the MK3. It’s also dope that you can run it in mini mode and jump to the 16 different channels instantly to have access to 16 different media channels. Also you can zone out different instruments by color! Native instruments makes the best midi controllers for customizing!

it's the Acme Studio desk on Amazon. Would recommend it for production spaces but def not top-quality studio furniture just something to get by that has some racks and a cool design.

In the intro you say it's the "A Series". Confused the shit out of me.. but the images are definitely the S series. Might want to pop in an overlay to correct that.

Have you had a problem with the display screens, particularly the right screen, starting to "wash out?"

I haven't had any issues with the Display yet If you are still under the warranty period you should definitely reach out to NI and see about getting that checked out. The LCD's should last a pretty long time.

@@MusicGearMondays Thanks. No I do not have one yet, but I am just about ready to buy one. But I did see a lot of complaints about the right display washing out after a while. But I believe I'm going to take the plunge anyway. I currently have an Arturia Keylab MK-II, but the keyboard lights on the S88 will help immensely and show where a keyboard is split. The screen displays will also help in auditioning and selecting samples and loops. Thanks for the good review I appreciate it, and thank you very much for replying to me quickly. Best wishes.

@@mrcoog3k832 That's something I'll have to look into. As for now I use mine almost every day and I haven't lost any brightness or clarity in the screens hopefully it was just a few units and they have fixed the issue it's definitely a great MIDI keyboard.

My Roland A-800 Pro has worked 1 day and 8 hours for 6 years without any damage, the keybed feels like new. When will the NI S MK2 surpass that, it will be worth the $800 price tag! 1 or 2 years doesn't say anything!

Yeah, I think there are a lot of midi controllers out there that are better but if someone works direct in NI software like Komplete Kontrol, Massive, etc they might find it beneficial to complement their workflow. I hear ya though reliability in the hardware game is key that's awesome about your A-800 those things are built well.

Oh waw, I've a 800-Pro too since 10 years and : YES it's still like new!!... But the workflow for Ableton & NI is... non-existing ^^ So, I wanna test a Komplete Kontrol so bad. Just afraid of... durability :/

Komplete Kontrol software (better call it KONTAKT wrapper) is total piece of garbage. PERIOD !

@@MusicGearMondays Kontakt is not so bad, but it uses super ancient technology and the interface simply sucks. Komplete Kontrol is really piece of garbage.

@@ArthurKlisiewicz What did you not like? I think it's price is a little high but I think if it's a litte more affordable it's got some cool features. I'm a fan of Battery and Massive and the fact that I can get to those patches from my S49 ro my Maschine makes it super convinient. I haven't used Kontakt to much though. Have you tried any of the new free packs NI dropped?

@@Jason_Music it's in a better wrapper it seems. lol To be honest Kontakt player was included in the Komplete Kontrol version I received they all work pretty hard and hand Komplete Kontrol just gives you a lot more live control over NI software. Similar to Machine but for Keyboard players. At least from my experience using them.
