Hi Brian, I release regularly every week! But I don't have a pre-defined exact schedule yet. But it's often on Tuesdays / Thursdays. Yeah, as long as you load up the Komplete Kontrol plugin you are good to go and control the instruments / effects via your NKS compatible controller. But regarding controlling the DAW I dunno if it's the same with the Maschine mk3. I will dig into it since I also have the Maschine mk3 and the Maschine Jam. Thanks Brian!

@@MattiasHolmgren I ended up just using the M32 with studio one. Can you do a video sometime of you using the MK3 with Bitwig 3. I'm looking into using Bitwig instead of studio one.

Hi, yeah Komplete Kontrol S61 has a sleek design and good integration of most DAWs and is super awesome in use with Komplete Kontrol and NKS instruments & plugins. 😀🌞 I do think the keys can give off a tad much mechanical sound (if you are playing with headphones and have a girlfriend or kids nearby, they might complain... Lol) But this noise is very common on keyboards. The Axiom had much less noise but it was bad in other areas. For me the Komplete Kontrol is a nice keybed and has worked flawlessly since I got it. Thanks!

Hi Stephen, as long as you can add the Komplete Kontrol plugin on a track you can indeed change the patches on that track. The Komplete Kontrol plugin is required for the HW to control. Thanks! 🌞

Is the plug-in button on the controller supposed to be available in S1 if I'm NOT running Komplete Kontrol software as a plugin? At 3:15 of the video, it looks like the plug-in button on the keyboard is available (before the part of the video where KK software is loaded as a plugin). Mine is greyed out, even though all my Komplete Kontrol scripts are set up. What I'm really trying to get to is this: If I have an audio track in S1 and load NI's Replika XT (NKS compatible delay) as an insert, can I control Replica XT's plugin parameters with the controller, without having to load up the KK software too?

FYI...you can't use the Controller Editor for the MK2 keyboard. I tried, and instead those features have been moved over to the MIDI Assignment Editor in the standalone version of the Komplete Kontrol software. I was looking for the MK2 template in CE, but that's not to be. Otherwise, good overview. I have the S49 and I'm digging it. Peace.

Great video…Do you control external synths as well with this setup? I’m curious, can I control external instruments for recording into Studio One with the setup as you’ve described it here? Currently in my external devices setup screen my “send to” and “receive from” is set to my audio interface (an RME with one Midi IN and one Midi OUT). If I change this to the NI DAW control as you outlined here, will the midi from those external synths be passed into the DAW or will I need to add another midi interface for them?

You should be able to set several midi devices as input in your DAW (studio one). I think by default many daws just input from everything you have connected. Logic does that with its ”auto recognize” controllers. But in FL studio you need to activate the devices you want active for midi in/ out.

I have the Mk1 version and it doesn’t work the way the mk2 works. It allows you to stop/play/rec however the 8 encoders don’t do anything. You’ll have to manually map the encoders yourself. That’s something I’m working on now.

I'm using Studio One 5.2 and the Komplete Kontrol Daw option is not in the Drop down menu. Any suggestions. It was working, Woke up this morning and it said my midi device wasn't connected so I went through the process again and found that option is now missing.

Studio One 4.5.3 has the compatible scripts that adds support for Komplete Kontrol mk2. Its a script by Presonus, I guess NI doesn't keep track of what scripts other companies develop for their hardware. But it works as described in my video. Thanks

Hi Thomas from Denmark. ;) Yes, the Komplete Kontrol S61 mk2 is a really nice solid keyboard. But bear in mind it is created for the NI / NKS compatible software. If you are looking for something more specifically for Studio One you can of course look at alternatives too before "slamming the button". Check my Nektar T4 showcase video, although I was using Bitwig Studio. ;) It's a neat package and also has great customizable plugin software (Nektarine). I will see if I can do a little Studio One video with it. That said, both T4 and KK S61 features a standard midi page where all faders, buttons will send regular CC data so it will work with any DAW. But these days you probably want a deeper kind of DAW control with your midi controller keyboard. Komplete Kontrol S61 has a nice Fatar Keybed which I like though. And personally I use Komplete Kontrol and NKS instruments quite often, it speeds up workflow. But as you've seen in many of my videos I use this tiny Keystation Mini 32 keyboard when doing the videos....lol. Though it's just out of convenience and to save desktop space. This looks awesome! Highly considering buying one but can't decide between the 49 or 61 key version. Also, does this work well with Studio One 5 and does it save the MIDI in the piano roll when you use smart chords feature? I know you press one key on the keyboard, but will those three keys from the cords show up in the piano roll? Thanks in advance for your help. Love your beat by the way. Do you have a link for the full song?

Hi, yes should be able to record the midi coming out of the Komplete Kontrol vst if you set another track to record the midi coming out from the vst. I don't think you can record the midi on the same track because on that track you will only have single notes which triggers the chords through the VST. So make another track input the midi from the KK vst track and you should get the midi unto the actual track midi input for recording. ;) Hope that makes sense!? This little song excerpt was just created with / for the video. I might use the sketch for a full song at a later stage. But I like to just improvise and jam during the making of these videos. The heat of the moment! I have a large quantity of tracks on my Spotify / bandcamp. There are always links to my music in the video description! Thanks for writing!

Sorry for late reply, at 3:12 I explain the Pages you use when controlling Studio One with Komplete Kontrol S61. "Plugin"-page is for controlling NI / NKS (Komplete Kontrol). "Mixer"-page is for controlling Studio One mix levels etc. And "Midi"-page is for regular CC-mode. Hope the info helps!

Hi Mattias. Love your channel. Being pretty new to all this, I'm trying to understand how midi keyboards interact with the main DAW. Do midi keyboards do most of the effect dsp within the unit itself (sparing the computer) or does the computer have to carry the full load on its own processor? I've been considering Komplete Kontrol 13 (for my Studio 1) but I don't want to overtax my cpu. Since the software is downloaded into the DAW it seems the DAW is doing the work and the keyboard is merely a controller. Maybe you can put a light on my fog of confusion. Thx (Win 10-64, i7, 8th gen, 16gig ram, 1tb hd)

Hi Ontogeny, the computer is indeed doing all the Processing. The midi controller keyboard is just that, a midi controller. It just accepts input and send it to the computer via USB or midi cable. Komplete Kontrol is just a bit more advanced midi controller so it also has color screens which can show you the Komplete Kontrol software, plugin parameter settings etc. But even for this device all computing is handled by your computer. I think you already have a strong CPU but if you feel you want to lighten it up you can always buy a Universal Audio interface, like the Apollo. It comes with specific UAD plugins and a dedicated CPU onboard which will do the Processing and ease your regular computer CPU from some tasks. Hope this was helpful my friend. I know tech is a jungle.

Thank you very much for this excellent video! A question from Norway; When browsing different Instruments from within the S49MKII keyboard GUI connected to S1, is there a way to include 3rd party VST in the browsing area? When I abandon the factory instruments and enter the User area it is empty. I would like to see my VST’s herein, e.g. Omnisphere in order to select this. I can’t figure out how to do this.

Hi Frode, thanks. Appreciate the feedback! Glad to hear you like this video. Yes, there is a way to have your vst presets show up. Komplete kontrol / Maschine software work with meta data files. So in order to have Omnisphere 2 presets show up you need meta files that tell Komplete Kontrol about their tags etc. There is a free Omnisphere 2 NKS patch meta data available (google it). So search for ”your plugin”+NKS presets / meta data or whatever. Another way is to load up a vst of choice in Komplete Kontrol via the browse for instrument and then save a patch. A saved parch will have the meta data so it’s available in NI software. I did that with the Valhalla Room reverb and some other stuff in the Maschine software. So NKS is basically meta data files which tells NI software about the available parameters (connected to knob fields) and the category / tag data + additional preview sounds if available. Many plugs are NKS compatible these days. But if not look for comlunity made meta data packs. Its a google away to have your favourite instruments available in the ”users” area. Mattias Holmgren Thanks - impressive response on a Saturday evening! I am currently checking out Freelancesoundlabs. The pricing is not a problem. I see that u-he and and another vendor is already in place as NKS, supported by NI Komplete. I had a hope I could pay for a NI turn-key solution for my other synths also. I will chase this further. I think my Nektar Impaxt LX+ MIDI keyboard might be deeper integrated in S1. As an example I believe I can turn on and off the S1 mixer view from the LX. I cannot see that this can be done from my S49. Have a great evening. Frode

BTW, I solved the Mixer view in S1 DAW just by levels of Undo on the Controller. I am currently auditioning some Dropbox repositories from KVR users on the NKS support issue.

Hi, Mattias; I have now installed NKS versions of all my 3rd. party plug-ins (inclusive of custom soundbanks) and it works well! One remaining question though - I am casting my DAW screen to my TV and would like my S1 Mixer window to hide and reappear on my screen when I toggle a button on my NI S49 MK2 midi keyboard without the need for using my mouse & keyboard. Is this possible?

Hmm how do you mean! Do you question if Komplete Kontrol software will work with another keyboard, like a Korg? The KK software requires a NKS compatible controller (like Komplete Kontrol) You can use multiple controllers in general with your DAW. I use several controller devices at the same time. It's a bit trickey to know exactly what you mean with that question. 🎪😃

MR Florence the scale mode will work if you add the komplete kontrol instrument as a instrument in S1. The problem I have with that is if you use it in chord mode it only records 1 note of midi data in the daw. I hope this answers your question. But if you’re working on melodies that problem won’t matter as you’ll only be using one key at a time

Hi Jacob, I'm not fully sure. But they should work the same, except that you don't have the screens to verify parameters on the A-series keyboards. Should be the same scripts as I'm sure it's not any different hardware-wise (except the removed screens). But as I don't have any A-series keyboards myself...only S series...I can't verify. Maybe someone else in the community can verify the compatibility with Studio One 4.5?

yes if you setup midi learn. There is a midi-cc page on the Komplete Kontrol which makes it easy to hook up the keyboard to control general CC in the DAWs.

Hi, did you make sure to connect the device in S1 as described in the video? NKS load times is highly dependant on computer & disc performance. I use a fast comp rig with SSD discs only which give decent speed. Thanks!

Absolutely. A midi controller just sends midi data to an external sound module…or a DAW in this case. The DAW can load third party plugins, like Omnisphere / Keyscape. You can also load Omnisphere patches within Komplete Kontrol Software. All NKS comparible plugins / libraries give you quick controls of params.

Hi, how do you like having you're pc keyboard on top of the KK /right side as oppose to right in front of you? I'm use to have my keyboard right in front of me and I'm wondering if i could get use to it being on the right side. Thanks.

Frankly I mostly use that small Keystation Mini 32 when doing most work. Then if I need to play more elaborate piano / strings I use the Komplete S61 mk2. I find the Mac computer keyboard on the right side to work efficiently. You don't want to do a lot of editing like that though. I suggest Recording the parts and do editing with wacom and have computer keyboard straight above the Wacom. Its ergonomic to me. Helped alot with pain in shoulder, wrist etc. I have some video where I talk about my audio editing setup. Thanks!

The DAW send and receive options for KompleteKontrol are not available in my S1 setup. I am running StudioOne Pro v4.5.4.5. I ran Native Access to make sure I have all the latest updates for my Maschine MK3 and software. Any suggestions?

For the Komplete Kontrol to show up in Studio One v.4.5.4. 1. Make sure to connect the Kontrol via USB to the computer. 2. Power ON the Kontrol! ;) 3. Load up Studio One 4.5.4 4. Open Preferences -> External Devices 5. Add the Komplete Kontrol DAW script. Connect it's RECEIVE / SEND to Komplete Kontrol DAW 6. Add the Komplete Kontrol S script. COnnect it's Receive / Send to Komplete Kontrol S61 Port 1! Select this is your "DEFAULT instrument input". 7. Ready to rock. Other than that I don't know what's wrong with your setup. Does other apps recognize the Komplete Kontrol keyboard? Does it light up = power on? I hope my tip above helps, if not, do contact NI support for further assistance.

When I add the Komplete Kontrol Daw script, there isn’t an option for DAW 1 in the receive and send settings, any thoughts on how to get it to populate with those options? I’m connected to my PC with a USB cable only, do I need to get an audio interface and midi cables?

Hi Chris, make sure you are on Studio One 4.5 (minimum) if your computer recognizes the Komplete Kontrol keyboard via USB you should see the DAW 1 options in the Studio One > Options > External Devices -> Komplete Kontrol S61 -> Receive From. If none of the Komplete Kontrol inputs are available there maybe your computer / USB interface didn't recognize the controller correctly. As I described make sure you are on S1 v4.5 as a minimum. Try another USB input on your computer and restart S1 and see if it recognizes the Komplete Kontrol. If you are on OSX it's easy to see in the "AUDIO MIDI SETUP" what controllers are recognized by the computer. Also search for "komplete kontrol studio one" on google and look at Studio Ones instructions for connecting the KK to your S1. I described as clean as possible how I did install it myself in this video. Good luck.

Hey Mattias, does Jam work with Studio One? I'll admit I haven't tried it yet. Last weekend, I managed to take my NI Mikro Mk2 and was able to turn it into a MIDI drum pad system in Studio One. I first spent hours setting up my NI/NKS-supported GetGood Drums library in Studio One using some online tutorials for it (it sounds really nice) & then I added in the Mikro Mk2 as I wanted to finger drum the GetGood Drums. All of it worked nicely. :-) The weird part about it is just seeing how long it takes. I don't have any mixing software, other than what is with Studio One & I'm trying to figure out how to use those tools to get my output to sound better. Whenever I have more than one instrument in the mix, it all starts to wash together & doesn't quite sound like they instruments are playing the same song together, lol. I really don't understand why this is, but I'm wondering if it might have to do with ducking and/or using mixing tools properly. Anyhow, I need to return now to my MiniBrute 2S research lab. :-) And I'm starting to circle back to my guitar playing now as well. I'm thinking about getting a Digitech Drop so I can drop tune. Some of the jazz guitarists that I've listened to or heard advice from, John Stowell and Ted Greene, like to drop tune for chord-melody songs. It's so easy to do with synths, you just move the tune button. lol. Not easy to do on the guitar, but a drop tune pedal (with excellent reviews), sounds like the way to go. I might be ordering that soon, at least a used one as the used price is fairly cheap.

Sounds like quite the sound adventure there. Yeah setting up scripts (gear) can be a hassle sometimes. Good drums 😉 I bet they sound awesome. Be sure to lowcut and pay attention to 120-500hz are. Reduce a few dbs in this are can help to clean up your sounds. And kill your darlings also ease up sonic space. ;) i often added many instruments in the same sonic freq region in the past. Avoid it today. I rather skip an instrument than try to fiddle it to work better. Less is more. Ahh the Minibrute2s... sounds lovely. I ordered a Minilogue XD. Today I ran a little friday coffee stream showcasing my new nylon string acoustic. And this evening was going to be spent painting...but I fired up the Digitakt and now brought in the 16channel Mackie mixer to hook up the iPad and record some jams. It’s a great combo. Looking forward to showcase the Minilogue XD when it arrives. Gonna use it with Omnisphere 2 as a HW controller too. Yeah I retune the guitar all the time. Most often drop the first string to D or C. I even bought a set to retune to Bb but that requires to reset the guitar neck and stuff...avoid! Happy weekend shitmandood! Good luck with the sound diving and music with the brute!!!

Didn’t try the Jam with Studio One, but I will. Still I think Jam and Maschine mk3 are to be used with Maschine software. Thats where they were meant to be kings. ;)

@@MattiasHolmgren Sounds good. I'd like to get a Minilogue XD Module as my next synth as well & I think it would go nicely with the Brute. Probably a few weeks after I get my guitar pedal situation handled. :) I was thinking of getting the Digitech Polara reverb as well since I can use with the MiniBrute 2S & put it though stereo & use it for 2 channels, also with Polara using the classic Lexicon reverbs, it should sound good for my guitar & the synth. :-) I've already read part of the manual for the Minilogue XD & see that it already has a full set of DSP included. It pretty much has everything you would want for a 4-channel poly synth: unison, arpeggiator, & even a chord mode, apparently you can import oscillators too. I'm really stoked to see what you do with it.

Ahh, yeah I bet you need some nice FX to go with the MiniBrute2s. I didn’t hear the Polara yet. Will give it a listen. Good fx like delays / reverb are extremely important. We are spoiled with all the nice vst plugins of today. Did you check Meris effects? I really would love to use the Hedra with acoustic instruments. Sounds like a nice pedal. Yeah the Minilogue has some great features and for the size / price I think it’s a winner.

@@MattiasHolmgren Yeah, the Minilogue is amazing. Great value for a low price. Once I get one of those that will probably be the last synth I buy for awhile & will look to adding some modules to this eurorack case I got with the MB2S. I'll be sure to look into those Meris effects. I'm thinking I might need to get a multi-effects system in order to get a better deal. I've been checking out the Line 6 HX Effects & the Mooer GE300. The HX Effects is basically the Helix effects system without the amp sims for $600. The GE300 is $800 but includes amp sims, with GE300 probably being the cheapest All-In-One system. But all the guitar players I know always recommend Helix. So what I look for is the effects list to see what is included. Both of these systems include a clone of the Klon Centaur, a super-expensive, highly prized & rare overdrive pedal. I didn't see it listed on Kemper or Headrush. Also, I was thinking that if I got either of these units, I could later get the Bias Mini Guitar amp, which would then give me access to thousands of amp sims from the Bias Amp Pro 2 software (included free with the Bias Mini). Bias gear isn't cheap though.. $800, but I wouldn't have to buy it all at once. We live in a world of great, but tough choices these days..lol.

Just got my A49. Fully updated Studio One Pro to latest version before plugging it in. As soon as I plugged it in, Studio One crashed on me and now I keep getting scripting errors and can't open any projects. Anyone experience this?

Hi Rebekah, try to delete the preference files for Studio One so it's starting up blank to reinitialize all scripts. Are you on OSX or Win? I don't have the A49 myself, but never experienced any issues with the S61 and Studio One. Thanks for writing Rebekah! Hope you get it sorted out after removing all the S1 controller preferences and starting up from scratch. I think reinstalling might do the trick, but it's 100 times easier to just delete preference files.

@@MattiasHolmgren thanks so much, the Komplete Kontrol doesn't come with the a power supply(wich I thinks is kind of strange)so I couldn't get it started in stand alone mode. Now I did and that's what I needed. Now I have the problem that when I want it to work with Studio One, all at once it won't give me the option Komplete daw when I add device and choose Komplete DAW? This use to work just fine, now it won't! Can't figure out what's wrong. Do you have any idea Mattias? Thanks so far, the stand alone was great advice, much appreciated! Greetings Ellen

Hello Mattias, I have a problem with connecting Komplete kontrol S 88 in "Preference". I dont have in "Recieve from" and "Send to" Komplete Kontrol S.I have only options: "None", "Komplete kontrola DAW1",which I am already using for a Komplete kontr. Daw, and "Studio 1810c MIDI In". Keyboard does not responde. Any help will be much appreciated! I am using Presonus 1810c and Studio One 4.5.5

When debugging start with one device at the time. Is audio interface Ok? Using PC or Mac? If you are using Mac you can check that in the Audio/Midi Preference App in OSX, if the KK 88 keyboard is recognized over USB. On PC I think u can look it up in system device Preference (ask a PC guy for further assistance). If the KK88 keyb is detected over USB, Studio One should be able to recognize it too. One step at a time in the signal Flow and it should get you up and running. Hope it helps. 😃 Another tip, don't start the Komplete Kontrol standalone apps if you plan to use KK in Studio One. You can of course run the standalone app once just to have the app fetch all meta data for your installed vst plugins and sample libs.

@@m.d.4949 Make sure latest version of Komplete Kontrol is installed via Native Access. Run Komplete Kontrol standalone and Let it sync and create all meta data for your installed libraries and samples. Ni has probably Great support for this. :)

Hi, this looks so helpful, but unfortunately...it doesn't work at all for me. Followed the setup exactly, but buttons on KK S61mk2 do exactly as they've always done in Studio One - absolutely nothing. Using S1 5 Pro.

Edit - user error, as usual! I just needed to switch to midi page on S61. Question: once i'm there, transport buttons work, but I can't get back to NI plugins/mixer mode without using the instance button - if I hit the mixer button, I get only two sliders - "Mashine Out 1" and "Main" but can't see any NI instruments.

I cant understand - how can I map some parameters on MIDI mode - nothing happened..... Icant assign for ex. CUT off parameter on the knob of my M32 keyboard

You should just enter learn mode in Studio One and then wiggle a knob on the KK M32 controller. If it's in midi mode the midi controller should transmit a midi CC message (corresponding to what's on the KK display) to your DAW (Studio One). Is the KK controller setup correctly in Studio One?

I can't speak for the M32, but the Kontrol S61, Maschine mk3 and Maschine Jam are very useful devices for my work. Maybe their more recent "cut / smaller / low budget" devices did get cut too much. ;)

@@MattiasHolmgren Yeah. M32 is overall not great choice if you understand the limitations. Fixe CC is major one. No Controller editor because of that. And integration with Komplete Kontrol only fully works in Komplete Kontrol. Overall I am not impressed. S25 is better choice in this regard. I wish I knew that before buying.
