Kondajji Lakshmi Varadarajaswamy Chennakeshava Hassan tourism ancient temples of Karnataka Tourism . The sculpture is complete from 360degree, having garuda vahana ,shanka , chakra , standing on lotus , lakshmi in left side chest of vishnu and smiling face called mandasmitha .
Kondajji. The little village situated about 17 km from Hassan, is home to a 14th century temple of Varadaraja Swamy, also called Allalanatha. Legend has it that this 18 feet tall status was to be enshrined at the Channakeshava temple complex. But for some reason, it could not make it all the way, and was apparently going to be deserted. An old lady (Ajji, which means grandmother in Kannada) decided to buy the statue and establish it in a temple at that place, and the village got the name name 'Kondajji'. The Varadaraja statue alone is the centre of attraction here, the temple does not have any of the signature Hoysala architectural elements.
Its made of black stone bearing Shanka, Chakra, Gadha and Abhaya Mudhra where the facial expression of the idol captures the vision of every visitor.
It is one of 24 avatars of Lord Vishnu.
A very unique thing here is on the right side of the chest of Lord Varadharaja you can find a small impression of lord Lakshmi where Lakshmi acquires the name as Shrenika. People can climb the loft to perform Abhisheka to the lord from the top. It’s worth visiting once and enjoy the glory of the village with Lord Varadharaj History.
Kondajji is noted for temple of Chennakeshava (Allalanatha). There is an extraordinary image enshrined in a very ordinary granite temple. The image is about 18ft tall, made out of black stone. This most exquisite deity bearing the beautiful conch (Sankha), the Cakra, the Gade (the mace) and the Lotus, has been taken as Varadaraja Swamy by most of the people. Allala Natha is another favourite name given to this Lord by the localities. The decorative features found on the beautiful form of the Lord, the inexplicably delicate nicety of the sculptural work and the uniquely exquisite facial expression - every one of these aspects captivate the mind and heart of the spectator. Both to the sanctuary and on to the loft built for the sake of Pooja and Abhisheka, visitors have unrestricted access and this is a speciality of only this place. The back and the backside of this varadaraja murthy are highly attractive in all aspects including sculptural ornamentations.
