Excellent topic as I am a event manager I find some people doing this . I suggest them to marry in simple way still because of prestige they take loan and get married. Walter sir you should have highlighted one topic here that is, marriage is not a game of oneday it's a life long journey how much loan you take no one will repay them they themselves have to . It's not just weddings; all our functions-First Holy Communions, Silver and Golden Jubilees, Christenings, engagements, and even funerals-have become grand and lavish celebrations with a variety of foods and a range of alcohol, despite most of these events lasting no more than three hours. It's worth considering whether such expenses are necessary, as many people end up in debt. A few years ago, the Catholic Sabha initiated a move to stop alcohol at the diocesan level. However, as people began shifting their events to hotel banquet halls, there were no takers for Parish church halls (due to alcohol ban) and the initiative gradually faded away. Sadly, it seems that materialism has ultimately triumphed over welfare efforts.

This is a very good message and should wake up our community. In Kannada, there is a saying : chaape iddashtu kaalu chachabeku. I was very happy when there was Covid, and weddings took place with a small gathering. It was a blessing for the poor people. I was hoping that the trend would continue even after covid. Unfortunately, we are back to the old times. That's sad. Our priests and nuns should play an active role in controlling this social evil. Conduct debate competitions among the parish youth on the menace of falling in debt to get married. CYM and YCS also should be involved in creating awareness. This social reform is very much needed by our community.
