These two categories were not easy for me. I realized that I love paper! I had to step away and return over the span of a few days...but I finished. The results are so liberating! Don't be afraid of tackling Books and Paper. You can do it!

Excellent video, I've found Mz Kondo on Netflix and love her method. I wish I could see how she would deal with an artists/ crafts room which is really very different, But you really need to be an artist or crafter to understand why we NEED our stuff! I'm sure many can relate.

I vowed not to buy a pen until I'd used up those I had. 8 years later, I'm down to three...

"It limits what I buy, and reminds me that I have enough." That's an awesome nugget to stay organized and content. Thank you!

I went through my file cabinet and the pile on my desk in about 4 hours. I shredded enough paper to almost fill the big recycling bin we put out on the corner once a week for pick up! You’re right, it’s very freeing to do this. I agree that it takes some discipline when you’re used to everything on paper. I was ready to recycle manuals too, but I either did it already or placed them somewhere else. If I gave them a new home, I’ll come across them and then recycle them. My books are my treasures. Like you, I learned to respect them. So I need to go through two big bookshelves and see what brings me joy and I will pick up again. The rest will be donated or sell. It’s kind of funny doing this because when I finished my desk, I discovered I can finally dust the whole thing! I imagine the same thought will go through my head when I finish the bookshelves! I did the same with music cd’s. I even sold the racks they filled! But I can’t let go of the old albums. They hold a lot of memories. Thanks for sharing your journey and tips with us.🌴

I love my gardening magazines but not much room to keep them all so I go thru them and cut out photos and information that I know I will use and glue them into a notebook to use for reference and ideas :) Many times a book or magazine only has a little information you can actually use. A notebook full of only what you need is very helpful indeed :)

Thank you for just being real, giving the facts, not begging for subscribers, not looking like the perfect gushy model straight out of a magazine, I really liked you straight away!

Excellent summary...last summer I burned 30 yrs worth of saved papers, bills, etc.....I went through every paper to make sure there was nothing important. It was 10 large garbage bags filled. So much stuff that my fire cage was burning for days till everything was gone. Feels so good to be rid of that baggage! It took me about 2 weeks everyday to get to the end.

I'm just getting started with the KonMari method of tidying and have watched quite a few videos, but you have, by far, explained the paper monster the best! I'm intimidated to get to this stage (still working through the clothes) because I save everything! Receipts, coupons, every scrap of paper I ever handled is probably in my house somewhere! Thank you for being so thorough.

Thank you for the best straightforward presentation on organizing. I love my books and truly regard them as personal company! I am releasing a lot of old paperwork and books that no longer serve me. It is a great feeling to do so. Even though the computer is a preferred method to pay and administrate household expenses, I choose to retain a hard copy as back up, especially considering untimely electrical outages. Everything shuts down!

As new retirees and conscious that our son would not find joy in our paperwork after we pass, we were more able to discard. We kept a few for historical comparison like the 80's era $749 Kenmore fridge receipt, a fridge that joyfully served our family for 30+ years; still running as we donated it in 2016. (The new Samsung has had 3 repairs in 4 years and does not bring us joy). Thank you for your informational, clear, and very well-spoken presentation. You are a natural public speaker.

I have only just come across the KonMari method and so am at present watching her on Netflicks and also watching KZfaq vidoes like yours. I found this very enlightening and has sown a seed. One of the things I do with my paperwork is I scan it and put it in folders and keep it on a separate hard drive. I find this cuts down my papers, allows me to keep what has to be kept without physically having paper. That said however, I have only been doing for 3 years. I do have a lot of paperwork all round my house in different places, cupboards, wardrodes, our two lofts which need dealing with, so I shall look forward to the day that I bring all these papers together to go through. I am going to start tidying my home once I am happy that I understand every concept of this method, which so far everything I have seen I love. I am part of the way there as I have a tidy home and things have their place, but there is room for improvement, so I will go through all the steps starting as suggested from stage 1 with clothes. I am really looking forward to starting this process soon. Thank you

Hard copy is easier to refer to and in many instances the only legal way for some transactions. But it does need to be kept under reign. When several of my computers went out, at different times, I was sure glad I had hard copies of some documents! Digital is not always reliable and my iPad is not going to read a flash or an SD card, without some pricy hardware. Then my current and modern printer does not want to print out these documents when I need them, and always much time lost trying to make it happen. So no, don’t get too digital happy.

I am blown away by the "leanness" of your paper. Paper is far and away my biggest challenge in completing the Kon Marie method. I will be thrilled it I get brave enough to lighten my paper load to 10 times the amount you have now! Thank you for showing that there is hope of a life without piles of paper!
