Awesome video! Next time you might want to try adding the kool-aid into the pot WHILE your measured one cup of water is boiling, and then mix it around. It's the best method I've tried, I've been doing this for like 7 years.

Kristy Nevins we washed with shampoo and conditioner until we stopped seeing color go down the drain. We have not tried to hear set it. Hope it turns out great for you!

Fun tutorial! What purpose does the vinegar serve? I'm wondering what is the chemical science reason why it would help when coloring.

Great question! We don’t have the exact scientific answer to that, but I’m sure someone has an interesting answer out there! I imagine it’s like dyeing Easter eggs, and that it helps the color stick and last longer. Thank you for watching!

@@TheBackPack Yes! I'm sorry that's what I meant, what does the vinegar do for the coloring process. I had not seen anyone else to advise adding vinegar for hair dying.

The vinegar is thr natural bleach that helps the color attach to the hair better, just like hydrogen peroxide as well.

Hi Nena, the paste alone washed out after a couple of washes so it was much more temporary than boiling, which lasted a few weeks.

Lisa’s hair was the darkest, and they all did 35 minutes in boiling water with 3 hours of conditioner. So if you want it to be a little darker than hers turned out, you might go longer than that with both steps. We haven’t tried longer to give a specific time though.

I have been dying my hair with koolaid for a few years now and my hair is really dark and I do the red and it stays for about a year and I don’t do the conditioner and vinegar and it still works but the first time I washed my hair it came out a little but I still have it in my hair now.

ANNEVA JOHNSON It faded out on its own after about three weeks with the boiling water method. The paste alone that we did for my son was gone after a couple washes. I should add this update on the description- thanks for asking!

I used cherry (red) koolaid on brown hair and 4 months later it's still red. I did use about 2 tablespoons of white vinegar in with the boiling water. Pretty cool. The dip dye method lasts a LONG time. I also don't shampoo my hair everyday and I don't use any styling products.

Jemstonez-Vlogs! We haven’t tried it to say for sure, but from what I’ve read online it works alright in lighter hair but washes out faster. If you do decide to try it please let us know how it goes!

Brooklyn Barton I would suggest about one cup of water per packet of Kool-Aid. Adding less water will make the color more vibrant, adding more water will make it more subtle. For darker hair you may want two packets of Kool-Aid per cup of water. Have fun!

Yep. color will continually come out for a while. Mine continued to transfer for at least a week. I do not shampoo my hair everyday.

I just checked the white mugs we used to make sure and none of them are stained at all! If your mug discolors at first I believe it would wash out after a few rounds in the dishwasher.

We looked for unsweetened since we heard it works well, but we couldn't find any in the colors we wanted. If we try it again with unsweetened we will give an update on the difference!

Since the paste only lasted a few days on its own I don't think it's a crucial step. The boiling water method should show results just fine!

Nope. The paste doesn't work as well. The reason the dip dye works is because the hot water sets the color. Try using a splash of white vinegar in with the water as well. I also suggest blow drying to set the color...Then wash out with cool water (preferably the next day)

You don't want to risk burning yourself if your hair is too short so the conditioner might be the way to go, even though it doesn't last as long or color as dark. Take care!

Most of it washed out within a few months, and then they got their hair trimmed so that took care of anything left, but it had definitely faded.

I’m sorry it didn’t turn out. Did you double the packets and use a darker color? Our cousin used red and it turned out well.

You can lighten your hair pigment by applying hydrogen peroxide mixed with baking soda, and allowing this to sit in the hair for a half hour(spread it inside the locks of hair so you don't miss the inner pieces of hair), then rinsing. Beware that baking soda is somewhat harsh and could irritate your skin.
